Thank You Fr. Matthew! I have learned so much from your talk. I am going to watch it again and this time with pen and paper at hand. I am going to put much of the information you gave us in my calendar and in the note pages. I grew up in a catholic family that only celebrated Christmas and Easter (no meat on Fridays during lent). I never knew why we did this until I began learning my faith in 1992 (born 1964) and on to this day. Sadly, but not surprisingly, no one in my family practices the faith we were so blessed to be born in. I always offer my prayers for their conversions. God Bless you Father and all the Marian Fathers!

It’s a rich, abundant knowledge of the Liturgical Seasons that added to my attention of it’s importance, thank you, Fr. Matthew, for the splendid lessons you give us. The spiritual treasures in the Catholic Church bring us to perfect holiness if we observe and live them in our lives the call that says,” Be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect.” You’re serene explanation is highly appreciated and may Almighty God bless you and filling you more practical wisdom for us to share. Thank you and praying for you daily together with the Marian family. Special prayers too for Fr. Chris, his Mom and the entire family.

Thank you Father Matthew for the very interesting lesson on the church calendar, and it’s connection to our civil calendar. Some of your points brought me way back to my childhood in Catholic School in the late fifties. I’m old enough to remember Septuagesima, Sexigesima, fasting during Lent, Holy Days of Obligation Ember Days, and a different ( and I think more devout) Catholic culture than exists today, especially in the U S. In my opinion, some changes that occurred from Vatican II, made life “easier” for Catholics, while lessening devotion. Of course, this all happened when prayer was taken out of public school. I so appreciate the Marians’ steadfast orthodoxy. I must say that your talk made me nostalgic for those days. Using terms like BCE instead of BC and CE instead of AD, saddens me. I love your reference to “sacred time” and that Jesus also lived in man’s time. I also enjoy your devotion to the Holy Family in your invocations. I am enjoying getting to know you Father Matthew, through your homilies and your talk today. You and all the Marian Priests and Brothers are always in my prayers. May God bless and protect all of you. Praying also for safe travels for Father Chris, and that he finds all well with his family in Michigan. WELL DONE 👍 🏈 Michigan. Winning the game with moments to spare. There’s no doubt in my mind that Father Chris leading the game in prayer pregame was your secret weapon.

With gratitude I bow to you Fr Matthew, thank you. I was one of those who (for several years) would start Christmas in October. I had my house lights strung up by 10/01. In my defense, it was because I wanted to light up the house for Trick or’ Treaters. A way to invite children to my merry & bright home. Also, I wanted to honor Jesus’ birthday for 3 months, not just 1. That was my justification! Now I see the err of my ways….and indeed I took the house lights & tree by 01/02. And, I am one of those folks who have my Nativity set: BMM, St Joseph & Precious Infant Jesus in His wee cradle out all year long in my home altar. Ahh haha, I am always always learning new things from our amazing Marian Priests, in such a truly loving, gentle & meek manner. For who could ever get offended, but only love our Holy Clergy even more. Thank you Fr Matthew. This year, under Fr Alar & your teachings, I put up my house lights & tree on 12/01! And I won’t take it down till Fr Alar says so!

First, a Hail Mary for Fr. Chris's mother and family. In addition, 3 Hail Marys for Father Matthew and all the MIC Fathers, Brothers and Marian Helpers. This is to offer all your intentions to Our Lady, who will surely ask for you what is most important for your salvation. Special thanks to Fr. Matthew for making sense of the Septuagesima, and of the Ember Days. I was a very small child when the changes took place, so I'd never heard of them until I came across some seemingly prickly "Rad Trads" ("radical Traditionalists") on chat threads. I can now appreciate their disappointment and upset, especially knowing about the prayers for priests. I'll overlook the impact of their emotion on disrupting the explanations they tried to give me, and which only confused me. Having heard so often from my parents at "how old fashioned and out of touch" the Church "used to be," before the reforms, I don't expect that any of that generation in the hierarchy would be interested in bringing those days back onto the Church calendar. After hearing Fr. Matthew's explanation, however, I will pray that these days are restored. In the Archdiocese of Detroit, no priests were ordained at Pentecost in 2022, this year. That prompted the Archbishop to ask us to pray daily in unity with all the parishes in the Archdiocese. He composed a prayer for this intention, and asked us to pray it from Pentecost 2022 to Pentecost 2023. This is the first time ever that there hasn't been even one ordination in the Archdiocese. I could see it coming as entrants to the seminary decreased, and fewer of those were considered to be "priest material." I certainly can't "armchair quarterback" the assessments of the spiritual directors and formators who form seminarians into fit priests. Yet I still pray that their discernment is guided by the Holy Spirit and not by their personal preferences, so to speak. Earlier I described the prickliness of "Rad Trads," but I have encountered equally prickly "Vatican 2 Loyalists." I'm in the middle, feeling kind of robbed of my Catholic heritage because I'd never learned of the practice of Church Prayer such as the Ember Days. I'm concerned that the young men I've known who went to seminary with a hunger for the Ancient Faith, were turned away from ordination due to something called "rigidity," whatever that means. I'm grateful that Fr. Matthew was given this education, and that he was ordained _with_ this education. May the Holy Spirit guide those who form priests to welcome the useful ancient practices, and may the bishops reinstitute these practices.

I also dislike the use of BCE/CE instead of BC/AD. However, although the idea was to secularise the calendar, note that [B]CE can also stand for [Before] CHRISTIAN Era. so even though the secularists have tried to exclude Our Lord, we can let him in again by the back door. Re fasting and abstinence during Lent. It was not vegan or vegetarian, as fish and seafood [cockles, crab, mussels, prawns, shrimps etc] were permitted. Here in England our bishops have reintroduced Friday abstinence [no meat or poultry, but fish and seafood permitted], on all Fridays throughout the year except those in the Christmas and Easter Octaves and when a Solemnity falls on a Friday.
@tylere.8436
@tylere.8436 9 ай бұрын
That's the thing I don't get with secularists, they try to remove Christian references, yet not the old pagan ones or really bring forth a scientific reason. They can't possibly justify their BCE/CE distinction, there is no other reason behind it. To them we should ask: why center that distinction on Jesus' nativity and not reference him? Sounds silly to me. We all have no qualms saying names of the days of the week or months of the year going back to the Germanic/Roman polytheism, yet Anno Domini needs to be secularized. Very selective of them, almost like it's not entirely secular of them.
