I was very fortunate to be able to spend 3 weeks in India in 2019, it is an amazing country. The contrast between the rich and poor is huge and on the whole I found the poor to be happier than the rich. We stayed with wealthy relatives and discovered they suffer the same stress, pressure and anxiety as people in wealthy countries like Australia where I'm from. Going out on the streets I met families living in single rooms and often conditions that would be utterly intolerable to most but their faces shone with happiness. I suffered enormous guilt about the excesses I live with and was often ungrateful and unhappy while others had just enough to barely survive. I came back a different person.

I cant help but being pissed off by this relationship to life in India, of course it it is right on and grest for this guy. But there are millions in India suffering. Good for you but....I am with those people who are living the extreme suffering of the prevailant poverty. Only cos I lived a part of it. The purpose of the worldwide companies is to make us believing that we are incomplete. That we need as much stuff as possible to be happy. But happiness is ,most of the time, in emptiness. Reconnect to ourselves through nature is the only way to be really rich 🙏💕🌱

I'm 62 also and have stopped thinking about what is my purpose because I don't think there is an answer. I now look at life as a journey to first do no harm, help others where I can and have as little impact on the planet as possible. Since I stopped spending energy thinking about what I should be doing and just focused on being I am much happier.

Christopher, your choice to focus on what is truly authentic and meaningful when surrounded, in Singapore, by so much commercialism and emphasis on having bigger and more-money, property, cars, stuff-is truly inspiring. Your decision to be that one body to touch others and provide encouragement and support is not cheesy at all. It is a mission that clearly gives you deep fulfilment and makes a positive difference in the lives of others. So don’t stop. Don’t minimise your calling. As an older Singaporean myself, it makes me proud to see a fellow Singaporean who is so honest, open and authentic and it gives me new hope for your generation.

I was smiling at the start, the intro music and the line I hate money. Gosh humans have made living so difficult. It doesnt have to be the way it is. I love living simply. It really is easy and pure, peaceful. The machine is chewing up far too many. Life is for living and its far to short

The urge to leave everything and live a life entailed by Thoreau in Walden has been with me since i was 14 years old. Now i am 28 and im a teacher in a school where i feel education is imparted on people who dont need it or appreciate it at all. Sigh. After i save money for 2 years,i will definitely go away and figure out how to live without living on someone else's term. Your videos are inspiring as ever. Exquisite filmmaking,i must say.

Henry David Thoreau lived in his hand-built wood cabin at Walden Pond for two years. While he was there, he was a land surveyor for which he got paid. He also invited people over. He continued contact with Ralph Waldo Emerson, a friend, who lived "in town," and who helped him out: two great minds joined together by a quest for understanding the bigger picture in life, Thoreau living in a small cabin and Emerson, living in town, with a family, traveling the country delivering talks on his viewpoint of life. Emerson's writings are timeless and was the most popular speaker in America at the time. Thoreau wrote Civil Disobedience, still pertinent today; both seemed to understood man's greater purpose and challenges and neither were hermits. And yes, industrialized schools in America are trecherous for true development - lack of physical freedom (20 minutes for recess) and lack of overall creativity in art, dance, music, theater and languages. I worked in school for four years and will never return.

To live simply has been my motto for the last few years. I used to dream about having things we couldn't afford until one day it just hit me live simply and feel happy!! That's what I am doing!! I'm not worried about the next fashion craze or the most popular interior design,an expensive beautiful home, or vehicle. Life isn't about these things. It's a whole lot more!!!

So much love to you, brother! I live for 5 years in a forest now, after living in a huge capital city - it's easier with every day here to feel that life is a pure blessing. It's almost unreal now to be a part of society and be real, honest and kind and - be safe the same time. Happy if someone can. For me being off grid 90% of time - is an option. For now. I absolutely relate to your story on so many levels and I love it.... however I never felt that I needed to escape from my family...they have done so much for me with so little and sacrificed their own needs to meet mine. For that I will forever be grateful for them for what I have become today...

That is such a beautiful blessing. My family has harmed me so. This morning in fact. My parents recently passed and I feel we may get some peace from brother and sister. Blocking all. It sucks. But we've got to heal and they won't. Life can be beautiful with so little.

Reminding myself that we are all so insignificant in comparison to the entire cosmos or universe is such a stark comfort to me during some of my toughest times. Not in any bad way as in none of us matter but it really helps to get yourself out of that self-absorbed black hole of stress and pain. Im 19 and I can relate to this video so much. Whenever I have problems for example in school I just imagine myself living in a countryside village where I have wonderful neighbors especially the elders whom I can talk to for hours about life and wisdom. I would just love to go fishing in the river, build a vegetable forest and do some art crafts about nature. Or maybe volunteer to social works. But I am here stuck in the city and i feel the pressure of following the standard life of finishing college and working in an office especially I am the eldest. I hate my life😭.

everyone has a purpose whether or not they ever find it and align to it. this man is on-track to living his purpose, anything less would disturb his peace. be it a curse or a blessing, when you are true to yourself and have a strong need to live it.. the universe somehow brings you back to your purpose here over and over again, until.. you fully embrace it and align to it. then it feels right and the way forward is shown. even if you were to fall, the universe will again pick you up and help you get back on track.. not just this man, but humanity more broadly is awakening to that process, that evolution.

Mum fell. She stopped breathing for 3 whole eternal minutes. It was a wake up call. No tomorrow and no yesterday just now is all we had. I decided to take up her healing with minimum to no help. It was like being a new mother. It healed our chasms , made me encounter myself more deeply as a reflection of thd mothertree and myself. And with all the beauty and vulnerability of this phase up came judgements, strong emotions, anxieties, deep fears like invisible seeds. I Who planted those? Surely not me? But i watered them and let them create a wall of seperation and not allow me to slow down. I was making up for lost time. Not responding to life or overresponding both are not measured or in real time. Whats real time? Time stops still in doing rhythmically and listening to ones inner clock and psusing and resting often. I felt hurried up, compelled to take unnecessary action and stressed often and realised thats what modern living has achieved so to say. Almost as if automatically people who seemed to no longer fit fell away. Ofcourse, everyone had their own mini struggles and movements to make meaning. I became clearer. It had to start from right now and in here. Seven years i have only composted. A neglected garden was transformed albeit superficially. It was a trauma reaction. I had been delaying living, pushing away the experience of death. Hope the garden helps me to hold life and death more lightly in order to makevspace for each other. It needs deeper work deeper engagement. Farmers, are now city gardeners or labourers, how we have reduced food to commodity and thats what they give us a pure reflection of the market which has robbed them of thrir agency. This green soldier of love is a gentle strong exception. When are you throwing a Green Renaissancs/Reflection of Life party so all these lovely folks n their admirers meet☺🥰

It does NOT sound cheesy at all! I resonate with absolutely everything you said, I feel that same contentment and 'fire' in my belly when doing what I was meant to do. I wish I was as brave as he has been at that age, I am 69 years young and finally retired 1 1/2 years ago and didn't care where the money was going to come from, my health was suffering so that I could hardly walk anymore. I had spent too much of my life going to jobs I hated everyday trying to take care of my family as a young widow. My body has improved much but the difficulty for me is currently not having roots, a place, no matter how small , to call my own. Where I live it is so much stress dealing with landlords and always wondering when your going to have to move again. I can live incredibly simply but I have this profound need for roots and stability. Thank you GR for introducing us to the light that is Christopher💕💚🙏

Bless you! My son is 17 and wants to be an engineer, by his choice. I told him fine, but you are going to take an Art class and pottery class as your extras. And I set aside a small amount of money for him to go somewhere in the world. I am so proud of him but I have a lot of talks with him about money isn't everything. when you're young, you see life as this overly complicated puzzle that you need to find all of the pieces in order to "know" what the image shows. as we get older, we realize that not knowing all of the pieces doesn't detract from the destination of the observable puzzle since our life experiences allows us to "fill in the blanks"..... this allows us to live a more fulfilling life through our simplistic living, rather than our consumable/disposable youth........

The biggest thing that i hate about life is how competitive everyone is and is encouraged to be since birth. Everything revolves around standing out as an individual and developing talents that you can then sell in the "market place". What if you derive the most joy out of cooperating with people you enjoy being around, instead of wasting your entire life in a job that you hate? I don't really want success, i just want to be able to do whatever i want without worrying about money. The constant worry cripples me and makes it so i don't want to do anything when i do have free time. The world just seems like an utterly cold inhuman place. It wasn't made for a person like me, but for somebody else. Somebody i fundamentally can't relate to.

We are sorry to hear that you find yourself in a space of worry. Through our filming journey, we have met so many people who feel like you do - so please don't feel alone. What might help is to seek out like minded people and surround yourself with them - to remember that there is beauty in this world, and in the people too. Maybe look to join a gardening club? A hiking group? (I'm not sure what is relevant to where you live?). Something that gives you to the time to reconnect with nature, and with people who love nature too.
