So glad these skippers are rescued - I am voting for the demasted skippers to receive purple storm jibs from the race organizers! - its a victory of a different kind!

This Golden Globe challenge is the toughest of the tough and it's participants are the best in the world at what they do. No one should be second guessing that the challenge is too dangerous. The event gives back in part what sailing has lost over the last 50 year's.

Well done to all, thank the heavens both are safe. I was just at the Southampton boat show where I got to lay my hands on Suhaili. It brings things into perspective after being able to see up close the boat that originally did it and is also the same as Abilash Tommy's. It also brings home the fact that back in the day of the original race, this rescue would quite likely never have happened and the story would have had a different ending.

Very close call for 3 sailors, i'm happy they made it through alive. That's all that counts under these circumstances. This part of the World is relentless and unforgiving.

Great briefing...Well Done

Certainly taking a step back and looking at the big picture, the possibility for loss of life, and much worse outcome with the rescue effort...it was a great example of different peoples coming together, working together and achieving a risky and noble rescue operation. Thankful for the outcome but sad about the losing the position in their race competition and those marvelous sailing vessels.

Well done to all. Looks like a horrific and spontaneous storm, well thats the southern ocean for you. My question is this: with more weather information (less race restrictions) at hand would these sailors have been able to better avoid the danger?
