Elden Congratulations on joining the GGR. I think it’s a great idea to buy that boat since it was already outfitted for the GGR and performed so so well… One important thing I noticed, Simon did a fantastic job on weather prediction, he was always on the correct side of the cyclical low pressure systems , thus ensuring he was always sailing downwind. Good Luck, you can do this I will be watching the next GGR closely.

Nice Engine -- BUT -- I suspect that the engine has been replaced. There was a massive EPA lawsuit in which Volvo had to replace tens of thousands of those engines from that period due to non-compliance with EPA regulations. That looks like the new replacement engine probably about 4 years old. You can check the serial numbers with the owners manual. Big win for you!

I'd like to have seen the rudder tube reinforcements you described.I have a 411 which had that failure, there was just a tube with no web support. I intend to rebuild with support and possibly a further tube of larger diameter surrounding and taken higher than the waterline.

Top buy , Had a 411 , Great boat , Many miles without a problem , Iast of the good Benes them models ,Shaft drive , Single wheel , BUT im not a real fan of those solent staysails ,Rather go to second spreader , One little drawback was the slamming to windward in any seaway but a good cruiser shouldn't be going to windward ha , No you have a real gem there , fair winds & Following seas .

I can't tell you how chuffed I am to hear someone with your experience and knowledge big-up these production boats! So much waffle is spouted about how they're unsuited to proper ocean cruising. Having looked at 411 and 473 (which I loved, the 2cabin version has a vast walk in storage locker where the third cabin usually goes) I'm settling on the idea of a 2 cabin 423, if I can find one when the time comes! I don't know whether Beneteau built the standard hull and rig 'ready-made' for the inner forestay, or whether it needed additional bulkhead strengthening, but like you I wouldn't want one without it. Would love to see any future videos documenting your time with this boat, she really looks fantastic with some very smart upgrades, the best I've ever seen. How you find the time I don't know but thank you for this video.
@mcintyreadventure
@mcintyreadventure 28 күн бұрын
Yes these boats are solid for sure and very happy with the rig and yes staysail is critical and this chainplate was factory done but would not be hard to add as the bulkhead is there if you have one cabin forward...so good luck...and look slike we will fit the survivor 40 under the nav seat...so all good :)

If you were single, what boat would you consider?
@mcintyreadventure
@mcintyreadventure 28 күн бұрын
Hi..tricky question as a boat is the result of many things..starting with budget....voyage plan and what the objective is? race or cruise or adventure etc....but you do NOT need BIG money to achieve any of those things...what you need is sailing experience on any and all the boats you can get a ride on then and you will find your choices start to narrow on what you like to fit your dream .....but one thing for sure...I would ONLY choose a boat design that sails well...not like a brick....I would also choose a boat that can face any type of weather cause you can plan a voyage but not control the weather and I would make sure the hull, steering, hatches and windows and Rig is really solid :) ...so good luck!! ....If I was single now @ 69 all other things being equal what would I chose??...this exact boat as I then have room to find another woman to join me :) ...and occasionally a couple friends :) as well... good luck!

Well done and a great purchase, especially with all that extra gear and maintenance history. I have always traveled overseas to buy boats because quite simply they are much cheaper than in Australia, there is a much larger selection and it's fun to start the adventure from another point on the planet. It's also pretty simple to remotely Australian rego the boat with AMSA. I used to work on those early 2000's 423 Beneteaus as a charter skipper and instructor - they're great boats and do everything well. It used to make me laugh when I'd read on the forums that Beneteaus, Jenneaus, Dufours and other production boats, are not 'bluewater' boats. Of course, production boats are built to a price point (and some models were poorly constructed) but the glaring fact is that over the last 50 years more Beneteaus have safely circumnavigated the planet then any other brand - by far!
