Anyone can make one of these - whether you are a milliner or DIY bride, I'll show you an easy to make headband. With wire, ribbon, veiling and a flower you can make a fabulous headpiece without much fuss. These sweet headbands are a great way of using up leftover trims and veiling. If you'd like to follow along live, see the list of tools and materials below.
PS It doesn't have to be bridal - we'll chat about variations at the end of the stream.
BONUS if there's time, I'll also talk a little bit about attaching veils to pillbox hats.

I recall going with my Grandmother every new season or special dress to a hat maker here in NJ, USA over 60 years ago. The bits and bobs that were all over fascinated me but I truly loved all the colors throughout the shop. Each hat was a piece of art. Each came with its own beautiful box stuffed with crushed tissue paper and long pearl hat pins. When she passed away my Uncle tossed out every hat in a blink of an eye. He asked no one if they were wanted. To this day, when I think of it I feel such a tragic loss. It would be hard-pressed to fund a shop like that here today.

I have one of those tailors things. I didn't know what they were called. I bought it at the church yard sale. I planned to use it for hats. Mine is filled with sawdust ❤❤

In America people wear hats all the time, but usually just in casual situations, like baseball caps branded for sports teams or businesses or a knit beanie hat. It is in formal situations that folks seldom wear hats, these days. I wore a hat to an outdoor wedding in the '90s and everyone referred to me later as "the girl in the hat." Frankly, I looked fabulous--and every other woman at that garden, afternoon wedding was under-dressed!

Watching after the live event. I have covered bands with folded bias binding and stitched it on. Takes a while but is non slip too.

Hi, Of course I forgot to set an alarm for today. I noticed when you were 2 hours in and then I just let it run while I had supper. I'm going to see what you've been up to and make another comment for the Mighty Algorithm after I watched the whole broadcast. I can't promise that I'll see it all the way through as I think sleep would be a good idea as I'm running behind there as well. You never know what your dream people get up to if you don't keep an eye on them for long. Not to mention that I usually get almost in a state of psychosis if I don't sleep at all for around four nights or more, and I'm getting very close to those four days. Chronic pain is a pain in the you know where. Cannot recommend. Yours, Ann

Hi- I’m another jewelry making friend 😊You can buy flat nose or chain nose pliers without the “teeth”. You want them to have “smooth jaw” and you should have no problems finding them at a hobby or bead shop in the UK or even Amazon. I’d also suggest a pair of wire cutters (any hardware store) as I find the cutters on pliers to be a bit dull and not easy to cut with

Marinka from Georgia, I have fallen in love with hats. however the Brits have a monopoly on the millinery products to make any kind of hat that you have demonstrated . When I try to buy sinamay, after shipping costs it isn't worth it. The average price for shipping is $15.00 dollars...

Hello, from my understanding of sourcing materials, Britain imports millinery semi-products from Europe and America. I buy my stiffeners direct from Belgium. All my other supplies I purchase from Millinery Supply businesses that have done all the importing for me. If I was buying wholesale directly from the factories in the EU or USA I would also be paying a lot for shipping and duties. There are Millinery suppliers in the USA. This page has a list of millinery suppliers by country: hatalk.com/millinery-supplies-directory/
