To the strains of a military band, King Charles III on Wednesday led his family in procession behind Queen Elizabeth II's coffin as she left Buckingham Palace for the final time to lie in state until her funeral. The king, his siblings, and sons, princes William and Harry, walked at 75 steps a minute behind the horse-drawn gun carriage carrying the queen's body to Westminster Hall, where hundreds of thousands of people will pay their last respects.

That is the Tenor Bell situated high up in the Tower of Westminster Abbey. It is only rung at the death of the Sovereign.
@MrBulky992
@MrBulky992 7 ай бұрын
@@ds1868You are mistaken on both counts. The bell is Big Ben, the largest bell in the Elizabeth Tower of the Palace of Westminster. It is the iconic bell which normally chimes the hours throughout the day but was muffled and tolled once every 60 seconds for the funeral processions. Th pitch of this bell is much too low to be a tenor bell and its sound is well known throughout the world. There were 3 processions in London to transport the Queen's coffin: 1. Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall (this one) - Big Ben (muffled) with simultaneous cannon shot from St James's Park 2. Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey - the Tenor Bell of Westminster Abbey (muffled) 3. Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch (Hyde Park Corner) - Big Ben (muffled) - with cannon shot too maybe but I am not sure. The Tenor bell of the Abbey is tolled on the death of a sovereign or of a Dean of Westminster but it is part of a peal of 10 bells which are pealed frequently. Those who watched the King's Coronation on 6 May will have heard it and the other 9 bells over and over again thousands of times when over 5000 changes will have been rung as is normal on special occasions.

Psalm 139; the tune is written by James O'Donnell who also conducted the choir. I didn't find it anywhere; O'Donnell must have it written quite recently or even just for that occasion.

Since Elizabeth II died, there has been much publicity, not so much thought about why she matters, and why monarchy is helpful in general. Monarchy shouldn't be used as real-life soap opera, nor as mere material to fill space in the media. The achievement of the British monarchy should become clear in comparison with the histories of other countries. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a head of state which is above politics, and which opposes illegal dictatorship. If there are many reasons England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy to unify all the people is an important reason. In the UK, 'peace' in formal speech is "The King's Peace". Of course Prince Andrew must disappear from public life; King Charles III's first marriage was a tragic mistake; Prince Philip could be tactless. Whatever mistakes the royal family have made, let us be grateful for the unity the monarchy gives in the UK & the world. The sea around it didn't protect the U.S.A. against civil war in the 1860s, and the UK could have suffered civil war over slavery in the 19th century; likewise over world war, loss of empire, economic failure, or race in the 20th. There will always be violence and political problems in the world, and billions of people who know or understand nothing of the British monarchy and the stability it brings Britain, the commonwealth (e.g. Canada & Australia). By stabilizing Britain & the commonwealth, it promotes peace in the world. Since the 1700s, billions of people have lived under the British crown without civil war, lynching, dictatorship in their lives. God save King Charles III, and his successors.

RIP Queen Elizabeth II. In my opinion Diana's Funeral procession was by far the biggest with far larger crowd & outpouring of public grief, except the fact there wasn't marching band @ her funeral as she wasn't given state funeral like the Queen.
