I don't think you've seen a curriculum like this before. The Live-Education 5th grade curriculum has an emphasis on ancient history, botany and geometry. But just because a formal language arts program may be absent from the curriculum, it doesn't mean it's absent all together. In fact, you'll be surprised at how much writing, dictation and copywork occur with the history and science main lesson blocks. And I bet you've never seen an introduction to geometry quite like this before.
There are additional materials you'll need for the school year. In addition to a source book for each subject area (you could do without one, but with some subjects, it's highly recommended), you'll need main lesson books, color pencils and the Key to Curriculum workbooks for fractions and decimals.
While there is a single teacher for grades 1st-8th in a Waldorf school, there are also other teachers that a student will interact with on a daily and weekly basis. There are additional lessons that are taught by specialized teachers. For instance, there are foreign language teachers who teach twice a week in the afternoons after the main lesson has been completed by the classroom teacher, there are handiwork teachers, eurythmy teachers, and music teachers who also teacher regularly throughout the year. This provides a nice balance of role models throughout a child's experience at school.
The same can be achieved at home. You may choose to have additional classes for your child and thereby your child will be exposed to other teachers other than yourself.

Thank you very much for your videos. They are very inspiring. We have plunged into Live Education curriculums about 2 years ago, and we are not looking back! (We have tried couple of other curriculums and I have seriously started wondering if home-schooling was a right choice and if I wasn't doing disservice to my children) I have two boys and we used curriculums for grades 1,2,3,4 - amazing! I'm just hoping that Live Education will offer Highschool curriculum soon...

I've never heard of this one! I appreciate seeing what it looks like. I'm amazed at how thin each book is!

Yes! It doesn't feel like you're getting a lot, but it's very dense. I forgot to mention that the font size is small and it's single spaced, so it's not just dense in information, but dense physically!

What a great review!! I still just love the look of Live Education. It looks so rich and beautiful. I think I'm taking the plunge for my 6.5 year old, with 1st grade for this fall. :) -Melissa

TFS Hana! Could you please do a similar walk through/review for 1st & 2 nd grade? I'm considering purchasing these grades & would love to see more than what they offer on their site.

It's been a while since I did those units, but I want to say between 3-6 weeks. I know that unless I'm really prepared and don't stray from the curriculum these units always take at least a week longer.

question if I am starting with a 6th grader this fall could I use the 5th grade curriculum instead of 6th grade due to the main lessons that sound very exciting.. my children havent had a great back ground on botany nor history.. or do I have to use the 6th grade because of the main lesson blocks that go with their age?

Ok here I am back at this video again 🤣 Would you consider sharing how you combined this curriculum with a younger aged student? I’m thinking about grabbing the 5th grade curriculum only and supplementing it for my 6 year old. Buying 2 curriculums will be pricey and I worry I won’t get the full value if I’m having to juggle 2 ages and grade levels. I don’t think I’d get to every book in each set. Would love any tips on how you combine the grades of the children you teach. Does that question make sense? I hope so!

So for the 5th grade curriculum, I think the most a KG or 1st grader can do with it is listen to the stories. The first grade curriculum is one I follow pretty closely and then I start to go with the flow. If I were in your position, I'd get the 5th grade curriculum and do as much of it as possible at that grade level and let your 6 year old participate as he wishes. Then if you have time, do some watercoloring and fairy tales with him. And then when he's 7, you can move into the letters and math.

Hello Hana. I'm just coming across this video. I truly enjoyed the information pertaining to Live-Education curriculum. We are planning to use this curriculum in the fall. I do have a question. When using this curriculum I've noticed you mention unit studies . Do you implement both main lesson blocks and unit studies within the same school year? Is this difficult to manage? I will be teaching our two youngest children (9,11).

Michelle Channell I’m excited you’ll be using the curriculum in the fall! What fun. So I say unit Study occasionally to describe the main lesson block so that people can understand better, but sometimes my main lesson blocks turn onto unit studies because I use so many other resources and don’t stick to the curriculum’s lesson plans or order of lessons. It’s far easier to just use the curriculum and add in one or two other books. I get carried away often. Plus because I have a wide age range, I add in materials that will suit multiple grades.

Hello! Do you have to buy the whole year or can you buy pieces of it? I am interested in the botany. I didn't see the option to piece it out on the live education website.
@PepperandPine

Samantha Hoffman Hi Samantha! Yes, you do have to buy the whole year. You can email them and ask if they'll break it up for you, but in my experience they prefer not to. We do love the botany and I can understand why you would want that main Lesson.

How do you prepare for & set up your lessons?
@PepperandPine
@PepperandPine 7 жыл бұрын
Usually reading in advance is the best prep I can do. If I want to do hands-on projects, I have to prep long before the unit so I can purchase supplies. I usually have a stockpile of main lesson books to choose from.
