Welcome to the club! I am 62 and love these 50-60 shows! We are not "old" -- we are "experienced" :-)

It's really too bad that youtubes use of service has gotten so lousy. I really learned a lot on pouring lead and paper patching for my really old black powder guns. There were several channels that even showed how to make your own firearms. Inn this hobby you really got some great ideas. That being said, it's too bad.we could not see how you made this.

One song kept running through my head, while watching this video. The 1966 Johnny Rivers hit : "Secret Agent Man". As a teen growing up in the Sixties, I remember the "Man from Uncle", very well. Really enjoyed the video, Mike.

I had an alloy-frame P1 back in the late 1980s. I liked it a lot, because with no modifications it would shoot subsonic cast lead 124-grain loads. Very cheap to shoot back then. Nice job, Mike!

I loved watching " Man From U.N.C.L.E " when i was a boy. I really wanted the " Napoleon Solo Gun " set for Christmas when I was a kid in the 60's. Instead my Mom got me the two Action Figures from the show. One was Napoleon Solo and the other was Ilya Kuriyakin. They were 12" ACTION FIGURES damn it NOT Dolls! They came with a small metal gun with a slot where you could fire gun caps. ( I did catch Ilya Kuriyakin driving GI Joe's Jeep with my sister's Barbie sitting next to him "

I remember The Man from Uncle t.v. series. So I'm aging myself as well. Found the series at Walmart on DVD. Love the way they solved problems 😌.

My compliments on a great video. The Man from Uncle and I Spy were my two favorite shows as a kid. I was such a Man From Uncle freak at 14, that I found a company in Japan that produced an all metal replica of the iconic pistol. In Japan with it's very restrictive gun laws there was an entire small industry producing extremely realistic firearm replicas. Noting that this was back before the days of the internet and even credit cards being common, therefore requiring an international money order I contacted a Japanese company and purchased a replica of the Uncle gun complete with scope, extended magazine, barrel extension, silencer and flash hider. 58 years later, I still have it and I daresay that you would not know that it was a real firearm until you held it in your hand and examined it. I always wanted a fully functional one but never got around to it. I'm glad that you did.

Watched the “Man from U.N.C.L.E” as one of my most favourite TV shows. Had the toy kit with radios etc. Even bought bubblegum to get cards of the series. Would have loved a near original P.38-P1 but sadly impossible now in the UK.🤨

I always fancied myself as the blondie guy in the UNCLE series! I loved those futurist weapons on the series!

I have a 16 round P-38 mag from the man from uncle.

Great fun video. Also a TV show with a great soundtrack theme song.

At 4:40 one can see the blank constrictor in the barrel of the .45 pistol of Bill Cosby. Not a bolt but a hex cross pin in the frame . One can also see the blank constrictor in the P-38 pistol barrel that Robert Culp is holding. These pistols needed barrel constrictors so the pressure would build up and allow the pistols operate and eject and feed blanks.

Lugers, Mauser pistols, and P38 pistols always looked so cool.

When in the Army in Berlin I was with the military police and my German partner Henry carried the p.o.1 and a sub gun in a brief case. Never felt any threat when we patrolled the city back in 74. Po1 is a great shooter.

I think the p38 p1 and the shortened one also are great and ahead of their time

...I' 72....loved the show - used'ta sneak watching it in the summer months when mom & dad went out on Monday nights...with the help of my two brothers one of whom kept a watch for their car and my other brother hooked up the antenna...both have since passed.

I have several friends who were former (now in private practice) CIA Counter Terrorists Officers and while they did not themselves carry guns, they had special armed units that protected them on some missions, Mexico comes to mind, they were armed and in safe houses they used Browning High Power pistols that could not be traced to the US. (so prolific a weapon world wide). The .38 SUPER in a 1911 is (5" and LW COMMANDER guns) one of my personal favorite defense cartridges, use Buffalo Bore 115-grain JHP which is 537 foot pounds pretty potent stuff and flat shooting. I am a 1911 fan in general .45ACP, 10MM and .357 SIG as well. All great defense weapons, but a soft spot for the .38 SUPER as well. The Walther P5 is a modified P38 and similar to your P38K redo; I carried one for several years and found it to be extremely reliable and accurate. A Captain friend had to have it so sold the weapon and Milt Sparks Summer Special rig to him.

Open Channel D. That will keep those Wiley Thrush Agents out of your yard! The Man from UNCLE series was but one show that inspired my own interest in the P38, but it was certainly a favorite. Also, a WWII AC Code Walther P38 was my very first handgun and I still have it, along with two Post War Police issue P38's. Have thought about getting a spare barrel and doing something similar to what you have done.

Love reading all the commrnts...I was 14 in 1964 when the show csm onto NBC on Monday nights in the NYC area...I'm 72 now...loved these improbable Secret Agent guns

Wonderful little (really not so little) firearm, very 1st firearm I ever purchased was an already cut down P1, very much like the Robert Culp shortened model with the sight sleeve on the short barrel, very happy with it, I've since purchased a second barrel for it, cut it down and threaded the inside and turned it into a non-firing U.N.C.L.E. special with all the accessories, but I don't have near the fun with mine that you get to enjoy with yours, happy shooting and thanks for sharing this video

In the1970s and 1980s I used to make grips and some of the parts for the Baby P-38s that John Martz Luger maker used to make and that looks similar to your pistol. John Martz never made any P-38 pistols or carbines with flash suppressors. He also made baby Luger pistols. I also had the toy gun and I.D. from the show.

Thanks for the warning about P1 frames. I rarely shoot mine, but I'll keep an eye peeled for any frame damage. Here's a bit of trivia you may amusing. As your video showed, the original UNCLE pistols were modified Mauser 1910s. The series got into a bit of trouble early on when an alert Fed saw one of the original B&W episodes where the removable shoulder stock was featured. This prompted a studio visit by one agent who determined they were unregistered short barrel rifles. The ATF did not exist back then and its predecessor was apparently a bit more laid-back. They allowed the armorer to pay the tax and register them. Presumably they learned their lesson and did the same thing before modifying the Walthers. Ah, the good ole days.

I never watched the man from uncle but. i was a huge fan of the Avengers. Could never get enough of Diana Rigg. Had a P38 in 2015 but due to a huge financial error back then I was forced to sell it. Excellent video sir thank you. Keep safe and keep shooting!

A couple of years ago I stumbled across a Manhurin-built P1 with markings indicating that it had belonged to the West Berlin police so I bought it. I'm certainly not going to modify it but I have shot it a little and it's fun and nostalgic. Following the war, West Germany was not allowed to build firearms but the Walther factory had been in the French-occupied zone at the end of the war so the French took the tooling to a factory in France where they built firearms for German police forces as well as the civilian market. It wouldn't be my first choice for a carry pistol because of its low (by today's standards) magazine capacity but it's reliable and accurate so I wouldn't really feel screwed if it's what I had in a life-or-death situation.

That was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid, I'm jealous.

Being a Walther fan boy, I used to have a P1 with the hex bolt lock. The double action trigger had a lot of pull to fire it, but once fired it had a decent trigger. The fact that the brass casings ejected from the left was unique. So much so that I scared a guy at the range one day when he was wondering why my brass kept landing on this right side. The gun was very accurate though a lot better then your redone "Man from Uncle" version. For some strange reason, I'm not sure why anymore I sold the gun. Wish I hadn't. Thank you for a great showing.

Funny how TV shows and movies influences our gun interests, the movie Dirty Harry did it for me. My fist handgun purchase when I turned 21 was a S&W 29-2 6.5” in a walnut presentation box $ 275.00 at a pawn shot !

The Man From U.N.C.L.E was waaay before my time (I'm only 29), but I've learned about it through pop-culture osmosis, from how it influenced guys who made stuff I grew up with. Love James Bond though, they ran those movies like once a year on TV when I was a kid, always a special time when it was '007 season' again.

I owned 3 P38/P1 guns over the years and they all shot low left. My friends suggested that they were designed that way because the Russians always dove to the left when they were shot at!

I was a big fan of Man From U.N.C.L.E. when I was a kid. One of the toy companies (I think it was Mattel) brought a Man From U.N.C.L.E. briefcase that had the cap gun pistol, auxiliary long barrel shoulder stock and even a working concealed 35mm camera.

Damn, now you have me searching for P1 barrels to chop down for my P1. I only have the one, not going to molest it. Oh, you probably knew this, but Beretta started with the M1951 with the Walther lockup, to the best of my knowledge.

I loved the all those shows. However, the radar dished mini 14s were a bit odd. Diana Rigg was a early crush for me. But even though it uses no cut down P-38 I loved the comedy Get Smart too. Barbara Feldon was another early love.

Make a backup film of the whole build on Odyssee or Dailymotion.

I don’t recall seeing Man from UNCLE as a kid, though I do know that I had the Man from UNCLE toy gun with all of the parts. I wish that I still had that, it was a pretty cool toy.

United Network Command for Law and Enforcement , always wondered and this video prompted me to look it up. Vaguely remember the show in the 60's as I was 5 when the last episode aired.

The 1980s toy that was marketed in the West as 'Megatron' from the Transformers was originally called 'Gun Robo P38 U.N.C.L.E. It was a replica of the Man From U.N.C.L.E. gun, complete with all the add-on accessories; stock, scope and barrel extension. It could also be transformed into a robot, which is how it ended up becoming one of the Transformers. In other words, many kids in the 80s (including myself) used to play with a replica of The Man From U.N.C.L.E gun without realizing it. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was still on TV when I was a kid, but it was only when I was older that I noticed the resemblance.

Interesting. I’ve never been a P-38 fan, nor the Beretta.. I will say from being involved in training videos that the fixed barrel will work better with blanks than the tilt Browning design. I have always assumed that is why the Berreta was so popular in movies. Will you be doing a video on the Get Smart shoe?

I remember seeing adds in gun magazines for the Man From UNCLE gun . Before the 1968 gun bill when you could order guns from companies in the mail.

I wish Man from Uncle keep it's darker feel from season one instead of becoming yet another secret agent show and later a star of the week thing.

Nice pistol. You Tube anymore is a pain in the A**. Why many gun channels just faded away . Not because they wanted to, they were forced out..by YT.

The Man from UNCLE gun looks great mike but......I know it will probably cost a lot of money but I think it would look better with custom made Grips made by a prop shop. The TV Prop grips really gave it a different look.

You need to get a set of custom grips with your initial inset. K or S perhaps? Geoff Who was young and remembers.
