Hamilton had not really a choice: cover inside and crash -> he loses, cover inside no crash -> max gets him later. Tyre advantage was crucial. But over the season mx deserves it more to be wc imho. Great battle tho.

@@konsLo87 he didn't even defend. If he forced max to go on the outside Ham could have pushed him wider and got a good exit. He needed to cover the inside just in time to stop the move. Failed completely. Hards were given a respite because of the safety car. Lewis had great tires to race with!

Closing that door would have guaranteed that Max ran away on this straight. Leaving the door open then passing him back was a far better tactic. It didn't work for Lewis but it was still the better bet.

@@andreavelinodacosta1418 but he wouldn’t have the grip to accelerate max would of passed him half up the straight easily .. this was this best chance to try and get a better exit and hoping max gets on the dirty part of the track and loses traction similar to what happened on the next straight but it was basically an impossible task regardless Max would of been 2 or 3 seconds quicker on those fresh softs lol

He deserved to be champ. But not to win this race really. But what's done is done. Even as a Lewis fan I'm over it. Luck/Circumstance is a part of every sport, and one might indeed say that this race just balanced out bad luck Verstappen had earlier in the season. When he got lucky, he took the opportunity and made it. Thus this moment is indeed a world champ moment after all.

@lamalas Not Max's fault if FIA is incompetent. He absolutely drove well and made the right choice for pitting for soft tires. Are we mad because Lewis didn't pit? Why? Mercedes made that bad choice so it's somehow Max's fault? Had Lewis pitted for fresh he would had better shot at this title. Let's not blame others for Mercedes double bad strategy in this race. Max Verstappen is a deserved 2021 Champion.
