@@oldskool1979 Not shure about that, but something of presented out there for shure it is. However it can still be the best sounding music you can get? My focus on the vinyl marked is audiophile jazz remastered reissues, and rock originals if possible.

Entering it into discogs would be a good start for an actual sell value, then look at the records that are blocked there separately and also look at the high ticket items sereately.

Definitely too many there to price individually, I’m guessing he just looks at a good sample to get an idea of the kind of music & the condition & then it’s just a lot of experience & a bit of guesswork leaving yourself a big enough margin for error

Discogs Median. Its all going to be auctioned so I have no idea as of yet what the price realized will be. I think a collection like this will end up selling for around median in the current market conditions.

@@seansrecords It still amazes me that people will suddenly pick up this hobby buy a bunch or records (expensive ones), never play nor open them and then suddenly sell it all. If they were in it for an investment I get it but if not I just don’t understand

@@bodosify unless they bought 2 of everything and these were surplus but some records he had 4-5 maybe it was an investment thing and if he started 5-6 years ago he will have made good money... can't really fault him, its better than hogging all the originals 😂

I will never fully understand why vinyl arbitrage is a thing.

You would have to sell them yourself if you want to maximize profits. He probably more than broke even provided the buyer bought early when the titles were in print.

I think you might be behind the times. The earlier better minty titles are selling for $80-120 on ebay, discogs and on my last whatnot auction.

OJC titles do sell for quite a bit these days, but I’d never pay $80-120. They do sound good, but IMO, they are a bit over hyped. Besides, there are plenty of great sounding Jazz reissues available for $30-40.

eBay asking prices are typically way above market. They're just fishing to see who'll bite.

The audiophile re-issue marker is not saturated yet, but overpriced, and must be corrected. Specially MoFi "one step" and UHQR.

After the MOFI bomb that Mike dropped, I’m assuming that he is acquiring these from people who feel betrayed by the hobby, I’m hoping my local shops will reflect this attitude soon enough.

Peoples live change, they move, get married, shift interest, lose interests, start new chapters and change a lot, it’s not a bad thing, change is frequently good. I’ve sold mine 4 times.

@@AeroModule A mint? At an average of 50% current value? That means that they would have needed to see an appreciation of 2X on each and every title to BREAK EVEN. If the buyer suggests you don't sell, that's all you need to know. The only ppl making 'mint' on a collection like this is if they sell them in small batches and individually. Otherwise, you are paying a high premium for the convenience of ONE sale.

Great question! I kind of understand buying two copies though. One to play and one to keep sealed and maybe trade or sell later to get some high price grails with out going out of pocket. Unfortunately I don’t have the discipline or patience to try this approach l I just buy what I like and if it’s sealed I always open it because I actually LISTEN to records.

@@larackel having two copies of something is much different than having four or five of them sealed! Especially those expensive ass box sets. That's just idiocy and greed right there IMO.

I would guess he would get around 1/3 of the median value. Roughly 60k ish I’m assuming he paid although I could be way off.

another reason why i have a love hate relationship with dealers i always wonder how much they screwed people over on their collections for profit
