@@oldskool1979 Not shure about that, but something of presented out there for shure it is. However it can still be the best sounding music you can get? My focus on the vinyl marked is audiophile jazz remastered reissues, and rock originals if possible.

Entering it into discogs would be a good start for an actual sell value, then look at the records that are blocked there separately and also look at the high ticket items sereately.

Definitely too many there to price individually, I’m guessing he just looks at a good sample to get an idea of the kind of music & the condition & then it’s just a lot of experience & a bit of guesswork leaving yourself a big enough margin for error

He didn’t own many of these records for long. Because Mike is young and works his butt off, his timeframe is compressed compared to us guys with grey hair. The Tone Poets are only a couple of years old. You need to hold onto these records for a decade or more to see a true increase in value.

Rich guy looks like he got bored of hoarding vinyl and has probably lost a lot of money selling. Everything I hate about this hobby, it used to be about buying music you love to listen to it, now it's about an investment and collecting for collecting sake.

Curious about the $174,886 valuation. Where does this figure come from? Discogs median? or a sum you or the previous owner came to independently? Is that what you paid for this collection or what it's theoretically worth for you to resell? Looks great! Thanks for sharing.

Discogs Median. Its all going to be auctioned so I have no idea as of yet what the price realized will be. I think a collection like this will end up selling for around median in the current market conditions.

Mike stumps up the cash and takes the risk that he’ll get a decent return. I wouldn’t think that he is the type of person to rip a seller off.Thats an outstanding collection. I’d take the records over the car.

This is concerning... by some estimates, nearly half of vinyl album buyers do not play the albums that they buy and most of those people don't even own a turntable! What that may mean is the vinyl resurgence doesn't have a strong foundation. If/when the current craze slows down and prices drop, many non-listening buyers will stop collecting and record store sales will be affected.

@@seansrecords It still amazes me that people will suddenly pick up this hobby buy a bunch or records (expensive ones), never play nor open them and then suddenly sell it all. If they were in it for an investment I get it but if not I just don’t understand

You would have to sell them yourself if you want to maximize profits. He probably more than broke even provided the buyer bought early when the titles were in print.

I think you might be behind the times. The earlier better minty titles are selling for $80-120 on ebay, discogs and on my last whatnot auction.

OJC titles do sell for quite a bit these days, but I’d never pay $80-120. They do sound good, but IMO, they are a bit over hyped. Besides, there are plenty of great sounding Jazz reissues available for $30-40.

Sadly, all of our collections will go this way. I'm sure the mark-up on this stuff will be astronomical! Why is he selling everything including the house? I am slowing down so I don't have a wall of dead weight that I don't listen too.

I will never understand collectors, what sense it makes to have so many sealed, unlistened, unused records? To me it's just a waste. A great record (or any product in general) deserves justice by being used for its intended purpose, that is to reproduce music. Just my opinion.

This collection makes me sad. Why unplayed and sealed, records that never got to be heard, what's the point! And 15 copies of Kind of blue in the same release, means 14 people that didn't get to have a copy because this guy is a hoarder. This is a visual representation of someones mental health problem.

Peoples live change, they move, get married, shift interest, lose interests, start new chapters and change a lot, it’s not a bad thing, change is frequently good. I’ve sold mine 4 times.

This guy clearly had a lot of money and fairly good taste in music and then spends it all on modern reissues. I’d rather have a collection 1/3 that size and have only all original or early press records. Just don’t get the hype to get excited about a re ish.

@@AeroModule A mint? At an average of 50% current value? That means that they would have needed to see an appreciation of 2X on each and every title to BREAK EVEN. If the buyer suggests you don't sell, that's all you need to know. The only ppl making 'mint' on a collection like this is if they sell them in small batches and individually. Otherwise, you are paying a high premium for the convenience of ONE sale.

I really don't get collectors like this. So this is only about 8 yrs worth of collecting??! Do rich people get bored and decide they want a new hobby then get bored of it? why TF would you have sealed duplicate box sets for example?

Great question! I kind of understand buying two copies though. One to play and one to keep sealed and maybe trade or sell later to get some high price grails with out going out of pocket. Unfortunately I don’t have the discipline or patience to try this approach l I just buy what I like and if it’s sealed I always open it because I actually LISTEN to records.

I would guess he would get around 1/3 of the median value. Roughly 60k ish I’m assuming he paid although I could be way off.
