I am so happy you are teaching about routers and mesh systems. I have had a hard time learning networking in general. You explain it so thoroughly. I can't wait until you demonstrate ASUS routers. I have an ASUS rapture gt-ax11000 and I love it.

Carey my old R7800 Netgear had mesh capabilities and it worked fine but I had a few dead spots. I bought the Nighthawk RAX 120V2 and it drops my Alexa and my google mini that is four feet away. I bought the Nighthawk at Sam's Club which gives me 90 days to return it and that is what I am going to do as soon as the weather allows me to get out. I ordered the TpLink mesh system that you are showing, to replace it and my extenders. Thanks for the GREAT broadcast. You are a great teacher

I just looked at the manual for the R7800 and I don't see anything referring to mesh in it. Are you certain it had mesh support because as far as I know, Netgear offers MESH routers or MESH EXTENDERS as dedicated devices. If Netgear ever made a Wifi Router that had a MESH option, I'd love to know more about it. Thanks!

@@CareyHolzman THANK YOU I stand corrected you are right again and that is why I try to watch all of your videos, but Netgear allows you to combine the 2.4 and 5ghz under one username and password plus it carries over to the extenders (and I have two Netgear extenders and one is an EAX80 but it is not a good extender) as one network. So, you don't have to login directly for the 2.4 and 5ghz. I guess what I had reference to is what they call it smart connect which works seamlessly with my Netgear extenders. I just removed my Nighthawk RAX 120V2 because it kept disconnecting from my devices. Installed the old R7800 and so far, no issues. The RAX 120V2 had a higher download speed but I would be streaming TV and it would disconnect my TV and some of my Alexa devices and Google devices. I look forward to using the mesh from TP-Link that you showed. The Nighthawk would download 950mbps whereas the R7800 only does about 700mbps, but it supports more devices and I have a lot of devices. Yes, I called Netgear tech support and all I could get out of them was to reset the router and after that I could not log in to the router with his instructions, so he hung up on me, so I am through with Netgear. Great video, Carey! Yes, the terms are confusing. I just purchased this same model system from TP-Link for my apartment. I am finally getting the speeds I am paying for. We only have one cable jack in our place and my gaming room is on the other side. Due to "OCD," I refuse to run a cat 5 cable across the floor to my PC and Xbox. This was the perfect solution for my network, Compared to my $250 netgear nighthawk router, this system is so much more reliable and stable.

I've seen a number of homes where the cable company puts the main router/modem in the corner of the house. In some cases it might be necessary to run a cable to the center of the house and put the main mesh unit there, otherwise connections from the satellite nodes to the main unit might be fairly weak especially with thick walls

Carey: Thanks for this video I have watched it and parts of it three times you are GREAT. I complained about my EAX80 extender, but it is a mesh extender and that may be where I thought that my R7800 was a mesh router. The EAX80 does not have much range I say that because I bought a second one and it would not do what I need it to do but the Negear EX7300v2 does and is much better. I have a shop that has a wireless thermostat, an Alexa dot, a couple of smart switches, and a fire stick for a TV and it was working with the R7800 but would not work with the Nighthawk RAX 120V2. I will be taking it back to Sam's Club for a refund Sam's Club has a ninety-day return policy for electronics. I did order the wireless bridge that you talked about and the TP-Link Mesh system. I think that the problem with the Nighthawk RAX 120V2 is that I have too many devices for it to work well because it would drop devices or maybe it was just changing devices. According to the box Nighthawk RAX 120 connects to 30 devices whereas the R7800 connects to 50 devices.

The G in cellular technology refers to the generation, 4G and 5G are the fourth and fifth generation of the technology. Yes it's easy to confuse it with 5Ghz wifi

I checked out the nighthawk rax120. I was surprised it doesn't support VPN functionality. Would you say its still not commonplace to have such functionality? Great video. Wish I could participate in more live chats!
