As an EMT I'm saying this guy could have a possible head injury and he's confused. It's not uncommon for accident victims to walk away from a crash if they have a head injury. The cop is oblivious to the signs of head trauma.

I’ve seen a few clips of this specific officer and he always seems to be so quick to want to charge someone with everything in the book. He easily could have been concussed or confused and walked away. Especially since the truck is probably in his name and it has his ID in the truck.

This can be thrown away, when you crash and leave your lawyer can say you were disoriented from the crash and it could be thrown away.

Guys... it doesn’t matter if he meant to run or not, the point is, he left an injury crash, which is illegal. Was the cop overly stern? Sure. Did the man who was arrested commit a crime? Yes. I’m not saying he deserved to go to jail, what I’m saying is, the officer did his job and it will be up to the judge, it’s not up to the officer in this case.

Officer, he could be in shock after the crash, there is many examples of that how people act irrationaly after such a incident. No need to cuff this guy in my opinion.

The kid could articulate exactly how the accident happened, had signs of impairment, and refused to comply with an FST. He was not walking away because he was disoriented, he was walking away to separate himself from the situation, and was calling a friend to come get him

Everyone says the cop shouldn’t arrest the guy walking away. The cop witnesses a guy leaving an accident scene. This guy may have a head injury but the cop is not a doctor. To all the negative commentators on Trooper Jacobs, the moral to the story is, the guy involved LEFT an accident. You cannot do that by law. The guy committed a hit and run and deserved to go to jail. If he was truly injured, he should have called EMTs or something and remained at the scene, but he took off; which is the textbook definition of a hit and run. Trooper Jacobs was 100% right in this situation.

Someone can be under some degree of influence AND have a severe concussion. Someone can have done some degree of wrong AND deserve to be treated with compassion and concern for their injuries, without that condoning possible but unknown wrongdoing.

The proper description for this cop, is having lack of discretion. I’ve met alot of cops with discretion that make reasonable decisions whether a person should actually get arrested or not. This guy just arrests or cites everybody he see’s. Its kind of annoying to be honest.

During a serious traffic accident you are disoriented and in a state of shock. You may end up doing things you wouldnt normally do or act in way you wouldnt normally act. This low IQ Cop doesn't know that, and automatically assumes the guy was "running" or "fleeing" when it would be reasonable to believe, given that he was just involved in a serious accident, that this may not have been the case. Just because he hasnt experienced it yet, doesnt mean that it doesnt happen! The nine most terrifying words in the English language are "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."

It was reported as a hit and run - so the officer is treating it as it was reported. Witnesses said he took off from the scene. That’s a hit and run.

Wow only one other comment on here stating the fact... The guy was not co-operating with the police with the drug testing 2:55 I have been involved in 2 serious accidents-one of those was fatal- involving tractor-trailers and believe me I was FAR more disoriented due to the hits. Neither of those times did I leave the scene of the accident. I stayed and rendered whatever aid I could until the authorities arrived. Hardly anybody reads the drivers education handbook. Everybody thinks there a pro after leaving the DMV with a license until they lose control of their vehicle and reality hits them. Driving is an extremely delicate act and one mistake can end you. If the dude has drugs in his system, he is going to have to live with the consequences of such acts. Wouldn't you people think differently if it was your family he hit and nearly killed?
