I get that he stuttered when asked the friends name but expecting him to know the address is a little far fetched. For me I see the address once, punch it into gps and then just remember where the friend lives, not the address.

Yeah, I got pulled over for "wide right turn". Going the speed limit. Completely legal, completely sober, and completely within the lines. And guess what. I didn't know my friends address I just knew how to get there. Let me go eventually but not without searching my whole truck.

@@LicksoftheLegend First, they only film an incredibly small amount of these incidents. Then, out of the ones they filmed, they obviously only show us the ones where they found something, because the others wouldn't be interesting. Hence, while 100% of the searched cars shown on Live PD might actually have drugs in it, that says exactly nothing about how many searched cars have drugs in them in general. For all we know, it might be anything from 0.1% to 99.9%.

@@UnchainedAmerica Mapp v. Ohio says that any evidence obtained illegally cannot be used by prosecutors in court. This means that cops that make stops for reasons like this won't actually get any convictions that stick in front of a judge, if the prosecution even bothers to take it that far

This not only gets that individual addicted for life, it affects their family, can lead to child/pet neglect, and they have to resort to break-ins to afford the newfound struggle they’re going through. Alcohol is just as bad as meth yet you don't see people getting arrested for buying a 6 pack. Specifying what drugs are good and bad is the same system we have now but with the drugs you like.

A half decent lawyer will have this case thrown out. Supreme court ruling in United states v Rodriguez says a traffic stop can not be held up to call in a k9 if it has nothing to do with the original reason for the stop. The officer made it clear he stopped him for the license plate light being out. So he called in the k9 simply because this man exercised his right to the 4th amendment.

This is a direct quote from the supreme court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg writing the ruling on behalf of the entire supreme court since the ruling passed 6-3. "a police stop exceeding the time needed to handle the matter for which the stop was made violates the Constitution’s shield against unreasonable seizures." They remanded the case to the 8th circuit to determine whether in that particular case an extended stop was justified. The supreme court ruling still stands and a lawyer will argue it and because of that ruling if the officer cant provide good reason for his reasonable suspicion in conducting a search the case will be thrown out. Considering this is on video and the officer clearly informs the man for the exact reason of the stop, seems pretty easy to win. The only way this is not true is if they edited out the part where the officer suddenly gained reasonable suspicion. But seems to me like something that interesting would have made the cut.

The tag light was ALMOST out. And the cop ALMOST had some indicators to warrant the vehicle search. Then the dog ALMOST alerted to the driver’s side door. Wow! This sounds totally constitutional! 😮

For everybody's info: they never do, but on a public road cops DO have the right to stop you just to check your driving docs if they want. However, they will stop you for any little thing to see what else they can find....they are trained to do so.

And to add, yes, you do have to provide identification at the request of a police officer. If you're just walking down the street and a cop asks, they're well within their rights as officers to detain you until they acsertain your identity.

If a cop keeps you longer than what is "reasonably necessary", then anything they find can get dismissed during an appeal of the traffic stop. If the cop HIMSELF smelled booze/weed or saw something illegal inside the vehicle while standing on the outside, that would be a different story, but if that's not the case and you're being held there waiting a while for a K9 to show up, it won't matter what the K9 finds. "Reasonably necessary" will be defined as the time it would generally take to run their basic checks (ID, vehicle record, insurance, etc) and issue a citation/warning for the original cause for initiating the traffic stop (a fixit ticket for the tail light). What the guy should have done is make it clear that he doesn't consent to searches and doesn't agree to be held there, then to shut his trap. Even if the cop commands him to stay put and wait for the K9, everything except the fixit ticket will get tossed out in court. You're welcome.

Im not against you or anything but all he had was “reasonable suspicion” sometimes reasonable suspicion can be used in court. Reasonable suspicion does not provide grounds for arrest but it can if evidence found leads to probable cause. Idk if the dog alerted or not though im not a k9 expert lol

No one knows for sure, but I'd guess that most of us assume that they wouldn't edit out the relevant and interesting parts, but rather the opposite. In other words, wouldn't they show the dog being alert vs just taking a stroll?

@@BigSteve34 if you exercise you "rights" they can easily be sidestepped. If they want you out of the car they can just say they smell weed or alchohol. If they want to search your car, their buddy friend says the dog was alerted. If they wanna pull you over they can say "you made a wide right turn, was driving erratically, or yep... taglight was ALMOST out"

What the general public doesn't understand is police officers are fantastic at profiling people. There are thousands of people who could get pulled over each day for a tag light being "close to being out" , police officers can look at a person and judge the likelyhood of additional offenses being present when they choose to initiate a stop. It is how they are trained. This officer choose wisely.

I didn't even know tag lights were a thing and my car never had them working...been pulled over before and they never even mentioned it either. I really do think its moreso the vehicle and occupants in it than anything else. If you tailed any driver in a cop car for 10 minutes they'd likely make some mistake or the other just from seeing you follow them and then boom. So there's really nothing you can do if they want to stop you imo.
