I noticed you did not give it a nickname. It's still named 'Missingno.' The unfortunate thing is that I did this with Nautoum too, and pokemon named Missingno cannot be moved past GSC as transporter, bank, and home will not accept it as a legal pokemon name. I'm having to re-do my shiny Swinub because I didn't nickname it in the game I caught it in.

I was actually aware of that and I intentionally left it named as missingno since I don’t plan on migrating it further anyways - especially considering I’m doing a generation quest and will hunt it again in all gens Edit: pinned because this is really good to know for anyone who may want to try this and I should’ve included it in the video. @@CragmortisPokémon Red and Blue were originally going to have about 200 Pokémon if I remember correctly, and some of them had to be cut because they wouldn't all fit on the cartridge. But they weren't deleted very thoroughly and all of the different MissingNo. variations are what's left of those scrapped Pokémon. This particular MissingNo. has the same ID number as Larvitar in Gen 2 and turns into one when traded up as a result.

Dude, I've been there! "I don't wanna get too excited" I've had this experience looking for my mons for vgc in Sapphire, because it's my favorite game, I thought it'd be cool to get my favorite mons from my original game, and I've had a few times where I got too excited and was wayy disappointed. Good on you! This is awesome that you're able to do this!

This is so so cool. And queuing it up to be larvitar in generation 2 is the icing on the cake. I remember your larvitar safari hunt via streams and older KZfaq videos that seemed to be an eternity. It’s all coming full circle. Awesome vid man.

I dunno why I didn’t think this was possible, someone traded a spaceworld demo Cyndaquil to RBY then to final release G/S plus the gen 1 shiny hunts. I might end up hunting a Cyndaquil this way

Nope, I’m going to try to do the generations I already have a little differently. So for gen 4 I’m going to do it by swarm in platinum and for gen 3, since I’ve already done XD, I’m going for the 5%. Ngl I’ve watched yours about a million times already lol And thank you!

Question! So since the missingno is from “Kanto” if you did change its name and we’re able to transfer it to Pokemon Home, would it say that Larvitar is from “The Kanto Region”? Thanks!

Hey! Good question. If I’m not mistaken, you can’t migrate missingno, so you’d have to trade it to a Johto game first, and then I believe it would say that it’s from Johto if you migrate from there. But feel free to test it out and let me know

Two questions: How did you do Fossil Conversion without super glitch? that method erases your name. And if it was Arbitrary code execution why not shiny hunt other glitch Pokemon? there are codes to change their types to their gen 2 equivalents.

-as explained in the video, I used a guide, linked to in the description -I’m not gonna lie, I dislike this second question. It’s implying that I chose a bad target when, in reality, regardless of who I went for, the same question could apply of “why not hunt other glitch Pokémon?”. Simply put, I chose Larvitar because I wanted to hunt Larvitar. And yes, I am aware that there are glitches to change typing, hence why I referenced in the video that I was doing that off-cam.

Well that’s the thing, it’s Larvitar because I chose for it to be. Long explanation: Missingno is a placeholder for Pokémon slots up to 250. Depending on how you set up this glitch, you set your fossil to be any of those and therefore it can be any Kanto Pokémon or any Johto one (once traded) aside from Celebi since that’s 251. So it wasn’t on purpose by gamefreak, but I purposely chose Larvitar when I set this up

Since 1:1 gender ratio Pokemon can't be female and shiny in gen 2, that makes her one of, if not the only female gen 2 shiny Larvitar in the world.

So close! It’s not 1:1, you’re thinking of 1:7 ratio can’t be both female and shiny due to how DV’s determine both shininess and gender in gen 1&2. So even with this method, a Pokémon can’t break that rule bc the stats workout the same way

Any Johto Pokémon, more or less. Missingno is literally a missing number. A code entry that doesn’t have a Pokémon assigned to it. There were 250 slots for Pokémon in the gen 1 games but only 151 pokemon, so missingno is the placeholder name for any of those slots 152-250, which can be recognized by gen 2 games since they do have Pokémon for those slots (as well as a 251st for Celebi)

See, here’s the thing: I don’t care. My hobby is shiny hunting and I like doing it in fun creative ways. I don’t care about the legitimacy or legality of the Pokémon in the end of it, I don’t do competitive battling so that’s not relevant to me. As long as I had fun with the hunt, I’m good
