I have to start work for my portfolio class this week, which means I have to summarize and explain every single piece of art I’ve done over the past three years and make them all cohesive with each other which is a lot more difficult then it sounds lol (fine arts major)

@@frizpop7863 wow !! Curious, but what happens if you made a piece of art without the intention of it being apart of a major cohesive “theme”?

@@averiebishop That’s actually what i’m dealing with right now haha So when that happens you still have to say how it contributes in a way. I have a focus on illustration for example, that’s what I want to pursue as a career, but for the past year or so I’ve stepped away from what most people would consider illustrations (children’s books drawings) and have focused on still life drawing (objects directly in front of you) and life drawing (people in front of you) since drawing from observation is the best way to advance your art skills. So I could say that all of my observation drawings contribute to my illustration work as they are “illustrating my life and my surroundings” Another way is what I used to make the piece. I work with a lot of different mediums (charcoal, watercolor, pencil, ink, collage) and I could say that in that way they all fit together in a theme as a “exploration of different mediums in the art world” So basically you kinda just have to shoehorn them together the very best you can with at the very least one common thread or you could just just not include the piece in the larger portfolio if there’s absolutely nothing it has in common, but if pushed most people can find one thing. Hope this makes sense! Thank you so much for asking! Most people blow me off when I say I’m an art major because they think they know what it’s like, but there’s a lot of different aspects people don’t usually expect when it comes to studying art long term. undergrad law degree? i've heard majoring in pre-law or legal studies without another major is looked down upon for law school a little (not a lot) but I don't know much
