I'm 75 & saw Westinghouse theater regularly in the 1950's! A number of early t.v. shows, i.e. Westinghouse theater, Playhouse 90, etc. were later made into motion pictures. For example, "Marty", "No time for Sergeants", "The Desperate Hours", & even this show "Dino"! In 1957 or early '58, I saw Sal Mineo in person, when he was doing a personal appearance at my local theater for the movie "Dino", but was hesitant to ask for his autograph at age 11!

As a producer of live broadcast dramas myself, this would of course be one of my eras of choice to visit if I had a time machine.

Excellent clarity of picture. You can see the beads of sweat on Dino's forehead. Nice quality restoration!

Great restoration. What I love about the live shows is you can really see how good of actors they were because it’s all in one take. Sal looks like he would be Brando’s little brother.

Many many thanks for the upload of this excellent play. It is always great to see a play by Reginald Rose especially one you haven't seen previously. Sal Mineo was brilliant as the eponymous anti-hero Dino. Best wishes Villiago.

Is it just me but EVERY work made by Sal Mineo had a homoerotic atmosphere?!

It is absolutely amazing to see how much of the resolution you are able to recover from these old kinescopes. Well done!

Thanks for uploading this video. I love Sal Mineo. He was a great loss.

So interesting to see this compared to the film version. Sal Mineo was more of a sex symbol by the time the film adaption was made and they had altered Dino into something more melancholy and sympathetic -- here he's nearing all-out crazy, and this is almost more of a story about optimism held towards psychotherapy and counseling to correct a hopeless case. One of the things I love about Mineo's acting is he reminds me of how things were played in silent movies. He's in great form here, his performance reminds me of Lon Chaney in films like He Who Gets Slapped.

Talia Felix Yeah. I think a lot of these live broadcasts that were later films had the benefit of hindsight in what didn’t work on the small screen production.

When I was a teenager I loved dino. Sal minor is great. Pat desimone plays his brother. Great film and this Version for broadcast. Excellent.

This original broadcast, when viewed by just my brother and my father (I only now viewed its recording for the first time), resulted in my being called "Dino" by the whole family forever thereafter; except of course for my mother, who perhaps regarded it as an abominable profanation of her father's moniker, Dennis John, for whom she had named me. I, on the other hand, always appreciated both names. But now I see that the character that connected the nickname to me was a criminal inner city punk. Fine thing. Oh well. Mineo was also a drummer, who, in a lame fifties bio-pic, played the role of my idol, Gene Krupa, so I guess I'll call it square lol.

Lame??!??!?!?!?! LAME?!?!???! HAVE YOU _SEEN_ THAT KID ON THE DRUMS???
@denniskamalick7865 Жыл бұрын
@@aylinasghary2959 I could not imagine Mineo's drumming ever being lame. Read my comment again and see that I was referring to the movie (which was indeed a lame biopic) NOT Mineo's skill. dexterity and sheer artistry on the traps.
@aylinasghary2959 Жыл бұрын
@@denniskamalick7865 nah not even the movie was that lame. Like sure, it was a bit corny and dramatized, but with his good acting, _drumming,_ and the decent pacing of the story I think it worked in the end. Or maybe that's just because I've seen worse biopics 🤷♂
