Scaling (and restricting axis) is perhaps THE main reason I design my own Dynamic Components. More often than not, I want to graphically snap a component into place and have it smart-scale on its own, not use a dialog. The other issue is the slow online database access. Once more we see the move from stand-alone to web app and I'm definitely NOT a fan. I wish that the issues with DCs we're addressed instead as LC aren't that helpful to me as is.

So apart from the immediate changes, live components don't seem to have any advantage over dynamic components (from the user perspective). So I hope that there are some major advantages in authoring live components (dynamic components are kind of difficult to do properly), otherwise live components would be pointless. You could have just updated dynamic components with the ability to use sliders and show the changes immediately. Or maybe you are planning to use 3dwarehouse and live components in other applications, which do not have scripting support like SketchUp?

Thanks for the great explanation , you make it really interesting while learning at the same time. I just wondered is there a way to set the scale of the downloaded component to match with the existing scale of a model it is being imported into ?

Might you have simply built sliders and delete the Apply button in Dynamic Components. I know Trimble has grandiose plans (and needs now subscription dollars to pay for them), but the sub audience who specialized in building DCs (think Marvin Windows) has to redo their work in LCs format to stay relevant. Who pays for that work? Aaron you do a great job playing educator and diplomat but I have not seen any real advantage to LCs as a major hyped “new” feature of 2021 SU Pro. M.Donnelly did a good job also evangelizing them but still, what are we paying for over DCs? The node-based parametric 3D modeling of Grasshoppers, etc. seems closer to the original DC construction techniques where math meant something. How about a DC to LC converter for free?

hi ! i got new amd rx 6800 video card like it BUT i got weird displaying front faces , for example if i model simple box i see only back faces not front one /visiable to camera/ is this open gl problem or amd drivers problem ? open gl is 4.6

@@bacazterchovej2235 I don’t know what the driver would have to do with it, mine on occasion does the same thing, clips upper corner when revolving model, like being out of limits in AutoCAD. I move the model to a positive position in XY coordinate and all is fine. Good luck .

I see huge potential. I am a big fan of "Instant Architecture" components by Valli. However, the complexity of selecting the different details within, say, a door can be a time-consuming trial and error process of selecting options and creating the component, and deleting and recreating. A "Live Component" would be just that-a live model showing the options in the process. Huge time saver. I am looking forward to seeing what develops with vendors and how I can create my own.

Nice Shirt, I see what you did there. Also, super excited about live. I’ve been introduced to a modeling software that uses sliders to adjust profile lengths. I kinda like it.

The slider bar and the toggle switches are nice, but couldn't they have just encorporated that into the capabilities of dynamic components?

Maybe Live Component is useful to manufacturers so that they release their products as a live component not allowing you to modify it to be outside their production line.

I know this has nothing to do with components but, that top tread should be eliminated or entire staircase dropped equal to one riser. If it were even with landing it becomes a trip hazard and to my knowledge unacceptable by IRC. I believe in of itself becomes a platform/ landing there by it would have to meet the 3’ minimum code. Just sayin. As far as live components, and the new logo, I guess this is what we’ll be paying the extra $100 for.

Hi! I was wondering, I have a annual subscription for SketchUp Pro 2020 and I've updated/downloaded just a few days ago the SketchUp Pro 2021 but haven't seen anywhere written that I have to pay 100 $ more. You are the 3rd person who has commented about that saying that is 100 $ more. Where have you seen that or what do you know about that? when will it apply, at the renewal? Because just for a logo change and the possibility to put tags in individual folders I find that quite a lot to pay for! Thanks

@@rynovlad3112 log into Trimble and you’ll see it. Under products, Pro version subscription, $299 per year. I have a (had ) a perpetual pro license/maintenance agreement for years, I downloaded and installed the new Blue logo SketchUp, and it said it’s a 30 day trial. I went into my Trimble account and it shows as a trial and no longer does my PAID for version appear. It says upgrade to subscription, for middle of the road subscription pro version of I believe it is $285 per year. Up until April 2021 my cost is/was $185. That where I came up with the $100 extra come April. BTW, they sent me a serial number so I could use 2021 unencumbered by 30 day trial, but come April, it’ll be $285 for me. Also I can’t use this new feature Pre Design until I upgrade to the subscription. Haven’t decided if it’s worth it or not. I can do without the logo, I can do without the live components, and I don’t need pre-design cause my other software has all I need in that respect. I’m finally able to use Pre design. Maybe it’s true, squeaky wheel does get the oil.

@@douglasmichel6361 Well, maybe they've changed it, but not now. I'm sure of that because I bought the SketchUp Pro 2020 in September (I'm from Europe) and it was already 274 Euros plus VAT so I've payed 328.80 Euros in total. I have done what you've said and I don't see any changes in Trimble. Thanks for the answer and the time you took for it! But you can still use your old version of SketchUp , I have both now, the red 2020 and the blue 2021 running at the same time 😃

@@rynovlad3112 makes sense, if your paying 328 Euros, that’s about $285 US no? Either way I’ll probably pay it in April when my 2020 license expires. We’ll see. So long as I’m making money with it. Anyway, Cheers mate. May run into ya next time I’m in Scotland for a pint or two, or three. 😁

this is great, but "live components" are irrelevant, each need is different for each user, I have made my own dynamic components for years from different furniture, so if I can create my "live components" soon it will be perfect, but for the use of existing components in warehouse it has no interest, just to play, too bad that since the creation of dynamic components, they have never evolved and no function has never been added I hope that the creation by users of " live component" will be possible quickly
