Reading talmanes and mat by Brandon recently, basically read to me as a first draft of wax and Wayne. Gruff noble who isn't afraid to get hands dirty but still carrying some nobility, is friends with country bumpkin who's an insane man and both love each other.

Androl became one of my favorite characters at the end. Such a neat character especially with the Pevara factor. So incredibly fun. I couldn't believe that I ended up liking a Red so much. Those two would make a good side story... need an animation show with those two...fun.

That was purely Sanderson having fun with Robert Jordan's magic system. I feel like what he did with Perrin in TAR was the same. Robert created rules for the magic and Sanderson thought, "How can I use these in creative ways?"

had to pause and comment at 45:00 because i am getting emotional. this whole harriet interaction is just beautiful... thank you mr. sanderson for injecting your fandom and literary skill into completing RJ's work. Even if sometimes your vision of the pattern differed from mine, i am so grateful that the series had a loving and thoughtful hand guiding it to an ending. and thank you both for this great viewing experience, what a delightful conversation this has been! [also the cosmere kicks ass, keep doing your thing BS!]

It is interesting to me that Brandon says that he got very little on Perrin. Perrin's stuff in TAR is one of my favorite parts of what Brandon wrote. I feel like he took the rules that Robert Jordan created and pushed them further than Robert Jordan ever would have and it turned out so good.

Why did he write Dalinar off the story and gave his almost no viewpoints in rhythm of war
@seringale
@seringale 3 жыл бұрын
He's answered that multiple times lol. He's going to have a huge role in Book 5 and Rhythm sets that up pretty clearly. Same reason Rand took a back seat in Reborn. Perspective and viewpoints change based on what the story needs.

My questions! 38:37 - Who was your favorite secondary character you were able to let to shine in WoT? 1:06:07 - This question specifically relates to influences on The Stormlight Archive: There are many parallels between TSA and classic Final Fantasy. Gemhearts and spheres that hold stormlight are roughly equivalent to crystals, the various order of the Knights Radiate are have similar role distributions to the classic FF job system, the Shards of Adonalsium parallel the summons/gods, and you even have your own Cid with Hoid... How much would you say that Final Fantasy has influenced Stormlight Archive?

I think Fain’s ridiculous manipulations and machinations being undone by Mat’s Luck was one of the most brilliant strokes of writing in the entire series and from the moment I read it, I thought it was intentional.

I like how Fain ends. But I wouldn’t have minded more planning for more build up.
@briancooke1134
@briancooke1134 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheDustyWheel I still think Fain had all of the buildup that he needed. He was always a random shadow element, but Mat was always his foil in terms of luck. They both drag followers behind them, powerless to resist. I feel that Fain’s luck was barely canceled out by Mat in the end and it was a perfect end to Fain.
@briancooke1134
@briancooke1134 3 жыл бұрын
@@Bobaganush26 this thought crossed my mind at some point during my first read-through as well, and I was also disappointed by the abruptness of Fain’s demise. After more rereads than I’d like to admit, I’ve come to appreciate the symmetry between the haplessness of Mat picking up the dagger and the haplessness of Fain attempting to kill Mat (probably without realizing who he even was). Easy come; easy go. I’m not sure if that was RJ’s intention for the character but that’s how I choose to interpret it. We often see villains in the series undone by their obsessions or pride. Fain exemplifies both flaws perfectly. He’s the guy who’s so focused on getting to work on time to execute the big merger deal that he doesn’t see the bus coming.

While the Semirhage spanking wasnt maybe appropriate it kindof made sense that she would break down from that but maybe eating from the floor is what really broke her. Atleast that is what i have allways thought. I would definitely switch Mat into any possible other fantasy, Mat is imo the best charachter ever created. I loved every single moment with Mat in the book series.

I had a similar feel, but I really enjoyed it at the end of the day. I also felt like the chapter a week thing killed the joy of reading the book all at once, though I know it was done to increase anticipation and increase sales and was a good experiment but I feel they should have wait$d till closer to the time and release the first 10 chapters or so, a week before release

Yeah I don't get why the beta reader don't like Dalinar that much. "'You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending'. CS Lewis. It's classic and important concept, Brandon didn't invent anythng new. Yes, in the end Dalinar is a disappointing character "thanks" Rhythm of War for zero arc for him, but I don't know why someone wouldn't like his arc in Oathbringer
@jaredpoulter6762
@jaredpoulter6762 3 жыл бұрын
I feel that Dalinar's arc, more than any of the other Radiants, is the embodiment of their first oath, "Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination." Along with the whole "most important step a man can take" thing, his arc is about always trying to become a better person, which is what this life is all about, right?

The spanking, oh dear. Probably the only part of the last 3 books I directly disliked. It just felt weird, and out of place. It's telling that he didn't even remember if it really made it in the book in the end - he must have not felt great about it at the time either.
