Fitting that the grappler, designed by a man in Arizona, is heavily used by Phoenix PD and Arizona State Patrol. It’s an amazing device and he deserves all the credit for it

I really like the tactic they deployed here. Unmarked car in front of another unmarked car to hide the grappler and then the first one pulls off beside suspects' vehicle and the unmarked car behind it deploys the grappler, first unmarked car slows in front of suspect vehicle so grappler can get him.

I remember seeing when this guy invented the grappler on TV when it was just a prototype. I'm glad it is working for him. I honestly think they should get more of these to stop chases. Ramming the car can cost lives and damages cop cars.

Similarly I've seen several Utubes of Grappler and raised the question Patch, and local LA news sites why the law enforcement depts. don't all get them .....they are less than 10 grand I think and I've watched pursuits where I've seen an easy 100K of property damage and at least that much in medical bills.....mostly borne by innocents. The pit drivers are amazing dudes but I've seen some go terribly wrong and this device could've saved lives and prevented a basketful of lifetime trauma from these events. Seems a small price to pay for the massive undeserved trauma these caustic criminals inflict on the public.

Officers responded to the area of Cave Creek and Deer Valley Roads at around 2:30 p.m. for a vehicle that was blocking the roadway. They located an adult male passed out in a vehicle blocking traffic in the roadway. Officers observed weapons and what appeared to be drugs inside the vehicle as well. When the driver woke up, he rammed his car back and forth in to the police cars, and was eventually able to drive off. Officers did not pursue the car, but a police helicopter was used to keep surveillance on the car, while detectives from Phoenix Police's tactical support bureau responded. The vehicle was eventually grappled and stopped near 48th Street and the I-10. Less-lethal munitions and a police K-9 were utilized to safely take the driver of the vehicle into custody.

The police should be commended for their ability not just the grappler but the way they handled this whole chase. Very low key low pressure on the criminal. You cornered him but not right on him, gave him enough room to feel he was still in control. It's the only reason this guy wasn't flying down the road and stopped at the light later. It took a lot of patients and training by the police to be able to pull this off this well. We need more funding for our police and training. So people don't get hurt and yes even the criminal.

This day of technology you would think that they have a electric probe or stun gun type device to pop the car into "off" mode kill the engine then force the purp into a foot chase thinking would be much better than what I see done today at 90 mph or unloading firearms into populated areas?? Nice job to officers 👏 they do best with what tools they are given.

@@Division_Agent_ I'd assume any vehicle equipped to attach itself to possible danger would have bullet proof ability as well. Well, a large dept such as Phoenix would. Probably not some smaller lower funded departments though. Small depts probably just use it on a stock Ford Super Duty or something. They could easily put a cut loose ability on the mechanism too and maybe it does if the person starts taking actions that they feel they need to retreat from. Considering what you said though, maybe the devise should be designed in that it goes in, wraps the axle and deflates tire same time, which would be easy. Designed so the net does the job rather than the anchoring strap.

@@highwaytoquail754 nothing's bulletproof, only bullet resistant. What beats armor plating is speed. Reason why I have 308 AP (100 grain Armor Piercing [tungsten steel core, +p ])... Hypothetically speaking, if they were to have armor on their vehicles it's only rated to the common threat, which is handguns 9mm, 40 & maybe 10mm.. (In reality 95% police vehicles are not armored unless they're specialized hand me downs. It sounds good but it's incredibly expensive. Unless it's a hand-me-down from our military like the bearcat Even that is 1.5 million brand new🤯) I did a little research on that grappling hook system there is no cutaway and there's no modification done to cut through the thick strap. Once you're hooked you got to commit lol & have a partner with a rifle barrel press against the window to get first shot on target... It sounds good with your saying but they're only using standard issue stuff nothing modified from what I'm seeing them showing it off & build schematics

The ability to stop cars safely is an amazing advance in stopping evading suspects safely. It, along with air coverage, also allowed this to occur as a low speed chase, through a packed freeway, that ended with NO ONE harmed at the end, or along the way. I believe this product should be adopted nationwide, as it is absolutely a game changer for stopping currently dangerous police pursuits safely, for vehicles light enough for it to be used. This is such a smarter way to deal with "car chases". Unlike LA where it's almost a spectator sport here it brought to an end with very little drama and the public didn't look like it was in any more danger than the perpetrator presented on his own.

Exactly! Would be awesome if they could implement the same tactics here in LA

Nice take down that minimized risks to civilians, and they didn’t kill the suspect. Well done.

Amazing device. I'd love to see it used more in California. It's crazy that LAPD lets chases go on for sometimes hours at speeds close to 100 mph. Great job AZPD.

Why do they bother chasing them in California? The DA will only let them go the next day.

LAPD has been infiltrated and is now a liberal socialist organization whose bomb squad can't dispose of simple fireworks without blowing up a neighborhood. Good luck getting them to do any actual police work. 👌

I love that they let the dog get in in the action and get some bites in. Such a good boy!

I told my grandpa that covid isolation meant to stay home. He just had to go for a drive to get milk.
