This is what my brain tells me a lot. But sometimes we just need a break. And it's OK to take a break - however long it has to be. And in this video I'm sharing how I try to deal with these negative thoughts and lack of motivation.

This is NOT a sponsored video. I only mentioned clicker heroes 2, because generally I don’t support dropping hacks like that, but the context here was different, which I wanted to explain. And I thought, if I basically show a hack that kills their business model, I can also be nice enough to mention their other games. It’s an indie dev studio I would like to see to succeed. Good for you to be sceptical! But German laws would require me to disclose any form of sponsorship and legal trouble is the last thing I would want. Hope that makes sense!

@Leon Mercy I'm not sure I agree on the motives. But for example, playing video games with friends is no less a waste of time than playing hide and seek. But browsing dumb reddit memes that don't even make you smile, just to cure boredom, or checking up on random news, just to keep you busy, keep you from being bored. THAT is wasting time

That is a very short-sighted thing to say. So if e.g. I need to pass a test to start a great life long career but instead of studying I enjoy playing games resulting in me failing the test and missing the career, then that time was not wasted?

I have a number of projects that need completion, a couple of uncompleted programs, not to mention i still have to research content for my youtube channel. There is just too much to do with seemingly very little time, and the little time that i do have always ends up squandered in some useless activities. I hope to do better. I will do better.

This advice... It's pure gold! I took it myself and I learned quite a bit. A short backstory: was playing Borderlands 2, mainly down to endgame. While the experience points are shown in Quest Log menu, they're not visible on the HUD. This took me to creating a BL2 xp tracking program in c#. While doing this I learnt to use pointers in Cheat Engine, I learnt to invoke WinForms elements from another thread, learnt to properly try and catch exceptions(uni course just touched on that very slightly), and I've started to study on how to read and write to memory addresses in C# without any additional libraries. It's basicly put me down to a rabbit hole of finding more ways to make these new skillsets useful in another ways. What I want to say is, Thank you, LiveOverflow. This really motivates me. You have earned my subscription.

You just added a big +1000 passive points in my motivation perk :) I also want to add that most of time frustration comes from the fact of learning things alone. You should start writing code in c# It will open for you so many doors, And you can do almost anything. I remeber a few years ago when i started coding in c++ and c# i was only using basic console input -output, from there i was able to build basic algorithms and basic ui designs. And now im able to build full project with multithreading, databases, networking, advanced math, and im able to solve alot of complex problems in the code. I can tell you it will be so hard to learn to code and even more hard to solve glitches and bugs. But once you fix all those bugs and you complete your project you will feel proud, and accomplishment. Never give up, start small and grow big!!! Good luck Coders! :) (Sorry for my bad English)

Thanks for pushing this message. About the only thing I ever did was play video games. But what I did learn from them is in order to master you're craft, you must practice, practice, practice. Games were certainly not helping me financially, so I literally stopped playing any games, and really any other form of entertainment, and practically spent all my time learning to code. It probably helped that I have passion for problem solving. But thanks to this effort I put into programming, when I went to college for Computer Science I was leaps and bounds ahead of my peers, which allowed me to have a couple of coding jobs during school where I worked 8:00 AM to 4:00PM (sort of, since I had class during the day of course) which gave me not only free time to study in the evening, but cash to spend as well. And thanks to this passion for it, I don't think I'll ever have to worry about my financial situation again. Love your videos too, by the way. Keep up the good work!!

Hacking is not only very educational, the challenge that security poses is very fun. And recently I actually had a similar scenario as you were talking about here. Although on a much smaller scale and difficulty. As I had been resting, I was playing a visual novel and that vn was uploaded online in html5 format. I was missing some very important CG, so what I tried was to obtain them by other method than via story, because I had tried 14 different ways and failed everytime... In the end I spent hours analyzing that html code, s and other things... But managed to crack it. I caught a glimpse of not only the locked CGs in their raw png form, but also found out that the one story line I had been trying to unlock was Patreon-only content. However, I caught a preview of the Patreon only content without being a patreon, so I was more than happy with it in the end. I learned a lot more about html from it and it motivated me to try and get into hacking.

Hey, I am still fairly young - 17 to be percise. I've tried a lot of times to learn new stuff like c++, asm, ctf, heck I watched a lot of your videos. The problem is as soon as I am hitting some kind of error or I dont know how to deal with a problem I am looking at, I dont find any lust in continuing the current project I am working on. Oh I wasn't saying that you were driven by capitalism, sorry if it sounded that way, I was just generalizing, I felt like that too some time ago and after thinking about it and asking other people that felt the same way I came to that conclusion, probably not everyone have that issue for the same reason, you are the example. Again, sorry for any misunderstanding my words may have caused.

Well you certainly shouldn't drive yourself crazy with achievements, but if you give up on them completely then you become stuck in some horrid WoW addiction spiral. I've been around nerds for long enough to see how that goes, the effect it had on their life is really indistinguishable from a crack addiction.

I have no idea why KZfaq decided to give me this video in my notifications... I'm not even subscribed to you or anything... so it scared the crap out of me, because for a few years I've been suffering from some major depression because of this exact topic. You're absolutely right, and when I think about it, when I've thought this way in the past for some small moments I had gotten my motivation back. Thank you so much for this. I went ahead and subscribed.

You are gold. Firstly, I needed to hear what you said at the beginning, so thank you for that. And secondly, that trick you found to hack the game is awesome, I don't know if I'd have thought of it myself. Congrats man, leaving a like, as always :3

Problem is that every game makes me think: "How do I find an exploit or something else?" So I end up cheating rather than playing. The paradox!
@elianagriffith9510
@elianagriffith9510 5 жыл бұрын
I think, thinking of hacking as purely ethical, and you're doing it to help others, basically, and not just hacking things for the sake of hacking, is pretty helpful. I think "cheating" is not really considered hacking, but, as long as you learn something from it and know how it works and what it does to the system, I guess "cheats" are actually helpful from a learning hacker's perspective. Bonus points if you've made the "cheat" yourself and reported it to the developer(s), afterwards.

There is research that indicates exercising helps regulate blood sugar levels which in turn slows down the natural decline in intelligence we go through while aging. If you're sedentary this is a good excuse to start exercising.

I like this mindset and it also helps me to motivate myself. What hurts my motivation is the lack of a proper foundation. I can program, I write the occasional simple script, I know linux basics and I use those skills in my professional life as a software engineer or in devops - but when I have to go down and dirty to the binary / hex level, memory analysis and manipulation or reading decompiled code I still have a hard time recognizing what I'm actually looking at. Trying to manipulate simple games is a fun way to try to get my feet wet.
