We can’t claim atmosphere is important when we win, and ignore what the fans inside the ground did when we lose. That was Jurgen’s last European night at Anfield. He deserved better than that.

Atalanta were the best team ive seen at anfield for years. Well drilled and great in possession. Yes we were poor but i cannot remember a team man marking us like that ever. Felt like they had 20 players on the pitch. Our players never looked they had any space at any point.

There's literally been NO defensive structure all season, conceding so many chances every game was always gonna eventually catch up with us! It also heaps pressure on the forwards because they know they have to score 2 or3 every game because we simply can't keep a clean sheet and that's why their missing chances even though we are still 2nd highest scorers in the league.

Anyone still saying Nunez has potential to be a world class striker? I've never! He'd struggle to make the grade in the Championship. Compare his efforts in the last couple of games with the goals scored at the Bernabéu this week. He's not even in their league. Atalanta's physicality made lightweights of the likes of Elliott, Endo and Jones. It was boys against men - just too easily shrugged off the ball. Szoboszlai is quickly disappearing up his own arsehole and the least said the better. Anything less than three points against Palace and they may as well book their holidays, season's over. From quadruple to just the League Cup in the space of less than four weeks.

I don't buy the excuse that the Liverpool players were tired. They lost because all three goals were the result of shocking defending. For the first goal Tsimikas was way out of position near the halfway line and Van Dijk was at left back so not enough defenders in central defence, and then Kelleher lets ball go underneath him. Second goal was even worse. What was Van Dijk doing on left wing when he should have been in central defence. Gomez was also half asleep and way too far forward and didn't react quick enough to get in good position. The amount of time and space the Atalanta goalscorer had for 2nd goal was ridiculous. Third goal Van Dijk at fault again and again was too far forward and was too slow tracking back. Gomez again half asleep and not getting into the right positions. 2nd half of 1st half Liverpool got control and played ok but when that 2nd goal went in during 2nd half then they lost confidence and couldn't get going. Awful 2nd half performance. Nearly every player had off game. Was surprised Elliott went off so early as though he played well. I don't understand why Gomez and Van Dijk were so poor after both having really good seasons. Like watching different players.

Don't get the tired reason. We literally had a full squad for the first time in ages. We were just awful today.

This season was a pretty successful midfield refresh. Next season HAVE to be an attack refresh. Diaz and Nunez cannot be relied upon to finish chances. They cannot even score one v ones consistently. Salah can finish but his legs appear to be gone. Jota can finish but he is unavailable for half a season. Gakpo has some ups and downs he sometimes starts very well and was a time he was very poor and admitted himself l see him like Minamino type of player in Liverpool no disrespect good in cup games This means that all of them are potentially substitute quality, and new blood that are starters have to come in, just like how we got in the new midfielders. It's going to be harder since attackers are pricier, but hopefully we get at least one value for money gem, much like Macca was.

Very passive all round. Thought Endo looked really exposed. He's too slow and also can't sense danger. Our 4 best years under Klopp defensively were 2018 to 2022, when Fabinho "the lighthouse" was at his best. Both before and after that we have been ropey with no-one screening the back line. As others have said this was coming a long time. Our high line and defending has been shite most of the season. We are actually a great counter attacking team but we seldom use that capability. Other teams prey on us using the high line and counter us. And i have noticed we have been giving the ball away too much with slack passing. Put that together with shite finishing and we finally got what we deserved

Couldn’t disagree more about the tiredness excuse. The team had lots of fresh(er) legs in the side and our issue wasn’t lack of running. There was no shape to the team (attacking or defending), composure in the final third was even more lacking than against United. Added to a paucity of leadership on the pitch to adapt/problem solve. For me it was complacency - players (as mentioned by Klopp after the game) didn’t do their individual jobs and didn’t heed the tactical plan. And Atalanta had a clear ploy that the players doggedly stuck to. Hats off to them but for me that’s the worst Anfield performance since West Ham won 3-0 under Rodgers (I was there 🫣).

We lost away to Spurs and shouldnt have and we were down to 9 players, we lost away to Arsenal and were unlucky, we lost to United in the FA Cup but were the better team. Tonight we were totally outplayed at home. Never saw that coming. One game a week from next week onwards

When our cbs are constantly passing to themselves and back to the goalkeeper and then going long. That’s a tactical issue. I said it weeks ago, Jota is our only forward that has a chance of saving this season. Yes we all love the pantomime villain Nunez, but at some point he needs to be judged on his conversion rate, which at the minute is utterly woeful. Certainly not of the level of a team that has expectations of winning titles and trophies.

As a neutral , I think that Liverpool will do well to end up third in the Prem, with Arsenal and City to fight it out. They are just better teams . The Europa looks done for Liverpool. Atalanta weren’t great, but too good for the reds , who looked awful.

Especially when half of them have barely played 30 full games this season and we probably rotate and use subs more than most teams.
