Love the pod. Few mins in and Neil (Jones) has said something I pretty much said to mates after the game. Can we just be boring for once? Are we not capable of having a 2-0 win where 'nothing' really happens? As football fans you live for moments like Nunez Vs Notts Forest but fuck me it seems like for the past few months we've needed 'moments' to win every game. It's not pragmatic to have these moments time and time again.

What nonsense. We only did it once before and actually went further in the other cups that season. You're not "going for the quadruple" if you go out of two cups at the 1/4 final stage like we likely will do - we literally didnt get far in either competition. And that other time we won 2 cups, won the last 9 league games and were a goalkeeping man of the match performance from winning the champions league
@TerribleEnglish

Totally agree. We were knackered at the end of the quadruple season and it absolutely destroyed us for the whole next season. Plus, this season we had a smaller squad, a new team and a great advantage bu not being in the CL, but we went ahead and treated the EL the same way, even playing the first team against Sparta in the 2nd leg, before the Man Utd game. However, our main problems are playing badly in the first half, often going behind, and our poor attacking play/ finishing.

@@DH-TVwe really struggled to win those last 9 league games, playing the B team at times and just about getting the win, really struggled in the last game, etc. Plus, we lost the final because of poor attacking play and poor finishing, just like now.

We have not replaced Mane or Firmino, it seemed almost every game, Mane or Salah would score the goal we needed and if one was off it the other was on it. They were both available for what seemed like every minute for 3-4 seasons. 2 deadly forwards with bobby behind them making it happen. We rarely destroyed teams even at our peak, we just had 2-3 players that would score the late winner or the early goal to kill a game for a side that had no right playing with us, like Palace at home.

It is perhaps telling that Ornstein is reporting that Edwards and Hughes are paying particular attention to the medical side of things. The medical stuff is often glossed over and players treated like robots. We had 14 players injured and that has led to some players now looking jaded (Mac, Endo) and a shed load lacking match fitness (Ali, Trent, Diogo, Curtis, Grav, Ibou). On top of that lack of match fitness there is a lack of match sharpness. Look at the chances Jones had and Diogo, once in rhythm they put them away in their sleep. I would argue that even Mo is lacking some of that. Our general play lacks fluidity but again that is down to those factors and the constant chopping and changing. Compare us to Arsenal who have been able to play a stable team for months, they look fluid and (until Sunday) were scoring goals for fun. It is something that badly needs to be addressed in the summer. Now the downside has been done let's focus on the positives. Going back to Arsenal, they too were creating shed loads of chances a couple of months back but weren't scoring and once they were settled they did. We are creating the chances and with players now finding match sharpness if we are able to put those same players out again on Thursday we will likely start seeing the rewards. Going back to Arsenal and City, they have 7 players each that have played over 2000 mins of football, we have 1 (Virgil). Those accumulated mins may start to tell in tough places over the next month while, with soo many fresh faces, we could really fire and apply huge pressure while banging in the goals. Our lads are great professionals, they care and they aren't missing chances on purpose, just need some more rhythm. They got us into this position of an unexpected title challenge this early so let's get behind them and go for it. We have a great chance so let's have fun, be positive and have faith in the boys to do it.

This team has conceded goals in 22 league matches so far, more often than not conceding first. Our attackers have taken the responsibility to score 2+ goals for most matches regardless. Instead of focusing on that glaring red flag 'fans are scapegoatin attackers.. Also game management has been poor all season under this management as evident of us constantly going 1-0 down , so Klopp shares some of the blame for too. I also believe playing away from home more often from now on will be beneficial to the lads because the home support at Anfield this past month or so has been absolutely woeful!

As a fanbase can we also try and not add to this narrative Man City are invincible from here. Maybe they will go on and win every game and if they do, fair play to them BUT in 2022 why were we fighting for the title on the last day? Because we had closed the gap from 8 points in the run-in. On the last day it is often forgotten that City needed 3 goals against Villa's reserve keeper in 15 mins to win it. So, this idea that it is a foregone conclusion isn't necessarily right. They may look like they are playing as robots at times but they are human. They have lost some big moment players - Mahrez and the goalscorer on that day Gundogan for instance. We don't need to build them up anymore than the media already will. We have to do our job and fully go for it - which is no small thing - and see where that leads us in the race against them and Arsenal.

The major difference (on the pitch) between Klopp's LFC and Pep's MCFC is efficiency. LFC always ran more yards and created more chances for something to EVENTUALLY happen. MCFC runs fewer yards and creates fewer chances for something to ACTUALLY happen. While Pep's possession plan forces a game to open up in a more certain way, Klopp's pressing plan forces a game to open up more reactively with some improv. The solution can be as simple as new instructions for the same players; i.e. 3-Box-3 as a more effective solution with the available players at the back end of 2022/23. It was not noticeable at first, but when you swap Nunez for Jota, Diaz for Mane, and Jones for Thiago we still get hard yards and chances, but not the ruthless efficiency to kill games off our way.

Why did Klopp change the formula that had been so successful after all the injuries and changes during Jan & Feb? There was an assumption that when key players returned from injury that it would be full steam ahead for the PL title, but understandably they have been off the pace, it takes time. Klopp should have persisted with the combination of experience and youth which saw an 85% win rate in Jan & Feb, compared with 44% since with the more established and experienced line ups!

Totally agree with neil atkinsons opening salvour on keep going behind and getting away with it. If were all honest as fans liverpools team play and cohesiveness for a good 12 to 18 months with the old and new players has been lacking, we rely alot on individual ability or patches of play to get a result which means we take alot out of ourselves and are grinding for 90 mins to get over the line. Love klopp, in my opinion best manager weve had other than paisley and their wont be a dry eye in the house when he leaves but i think his decision to go now is the right one, its time for a fresh pair of eyes and a change of balance to our play and structure. Lets not get on endo and nunez back to much. Endo been signed for 16 mill, been outstanding, nunez not been great last 2 games i get it, and he needs to step up again next season, misses to many big chances, however i cant see how were trying to set him up for a goal with our patterns of play. Lets hope we can win all the remaining games and see what happens. Up the reds.

At what point do the excuses for Nunez cease? Two seasons now where he's not performed to a title challenging level and yet there are nothing but endless excuses as to why. I'm not suggesting he's a bad player, he's simply a level below were we are and we will continue to be perennial also-rans until we get a prolific goal scorer at the club and no amount of wishful thinking is going to make that Darwin Nunez. The team is lacking in several areas and the new gaffer is going to have to sort this out once and for all. Give Gapko a run to the end of the season and if he doesn't play himself into a run of form, flog him as well in the summer.

The manager has had a nightmare with team selection. In his whole time at the club I've never questioned him before until he started Endo again. It's also the first time I thought maybe he's leaving at the right time with a decision like that. My heart sank when I seen the teamsheet before kickoff. Less than 3 days prior the fella was goosed when Atalanta targeted him, and he starts against Palace, another team who targeted him previously. Freshness, energy, mobility, things Klopp strives for, and yet he neglected all that. That DM position is crucial as the anchor of the team. It needs energy and athleticism, someone with mobility who screens the defence, tracks runners, puts out fires (especially in the chaos of a Klopp team), and gives the advanced midfielders the freedom to attack without having to constantly worry about staying close to protect the DM's lack of mobility. The 6 should be doing the donkey work, not having the like of creative talent in Mac to carry his load. Endo wouldn't get in a top ten side in the PL, he wouldn't get in the Palace midfield that's for sure as knowing his weakness they went after him again. To neglect that position has ultimately cost us as we are wide open infront of the defence and as a result we routinely go behind, and having to constantly play catch up in games puts extra strain/pressure on the attackers. Two years ago we should have started rebuilding midfield, instead we did nothing (Jurgen trotted out 8 midfielders we had in that August 2022 press conference, most of whom were crocked or finished). We tried to cram it all in last summer but failed to bring in the key DM with some last minute buying, it was terrible planning. With no defensive solidity from midfield we are vulnerable in every game. Mac, Dom and Curtis are the best midfield three (Harvey as sub), and while it's not ideal having Mac in the 6 its alot better than carrying a fella who can't track runners and puts the whole team under pressure. Our four best years under Klopp defensively was 2018 to 2022, prime Fabinho. When he fell off a cliff, we fell off a cliff. He's brought in advanced midfield players to do the running but that can't make up for the slow 30 year old fella in behind them. The gaping hole in midfield against Man U from Casirmiro's looped pass when they went 2-1 up, he's just not got the mobility to cover the ground. So passive, constantly trailing midfield runners, and that first half vs Palace had his name all over it, as the Atalanta game did. Like Newcastle away (in his first start) we were transformed when he went off, the energy level ramped up. The Endo experiment is over, and sadly with it Klopp's era.

He was once with Van Dijk the best center pairing in the league before his injury. Konatè is not good enough for Liverpool and even as a squad player he is too often injured. Why does Jones always take so long to get fit when he comes back from injury? Why do we not change systems more often? And why, why do we chase the game when we are in front playing with no handbrake or control, these should all be basics to put into place.

You people keep blaming the players. These players have dead muscles and can not control the ball or run. MANCITY has two complete teams with full strength ready for different games. It is the corruption that MC is bringing to EPL taken the competition to unreachable level because of the financial.

Nunez missing sitters, defenders not being able to defend, Enzo looking like a league 1 player of late, Sboz looking horrible, Salah looking 50 years old ain’t to do with squad depth it’s more the fact the players have showed they ain’t built for the title, gone are the days of the mentality monsters. These are a bunch of wimps

No, no. Man City don’t have 2 squads. They have players who are killers in the big moments and we don’t. All there is to it. I don’t disagree they are corrupt cheats but to say they have 2 squads just isn’t true. Our squad is just as deep however we shit the bed and they don’t.

Neil Jones misses a simple point for me. As good as Gapko is and GAPKO shines when he comes on as a sub after 65 mins. I find it disingenuous to keep criticizing Nunez, when Salah did no work on Sudnay, did not defend of press. Nunez came back from Injury against Forest and got us points, Diaz, Nunez ,Mac Alister Endo, work rate is phenomenal. Macca + Endo have not had any rest have they??

Are you blind, I am sorry but have you not seen all the 90% plus chances Núñez has squandered, not to talk about all the bad decision making and all the offsides he has run into. Have seen every Liverpool game the last 30 plus years and I can tell you that Núñez is not good enough for Liverpool. Don’t be one of those supporters that chooses players ahead of club, I wish him all the best, but a huge club as Liverpool can not wait two years for a player to come good, not one that is supposed to start every game, YNWA.

@@ToniPhillips-tc9cl well I just turn 55, so no can not say I remember him, but I use to listen to bbc Scotland in my teens and in early twenties started seeing games on satellite channels, sky sport, then Canal plus and Viaplay, sorry to tell you but in Scandinavia we see nearly all LFC games live, has been like that for years, I was never a Klopp fanboy, I really appreciate what he has done for the club and it could be a challenge for anyone taken over this team to change way of play. But I truly think we should have won more these last years, the way teams have counter attack us has been diabolical trough his tenure. I miss the control of matches, why are we going gong ho when we are up with a goal ? It is a way where you can win championships, although you also is wearing players down with all the intensity, but it is not a way to win semifinals and finals where you are meeting a strong team with a clever manager, it is far too risky. Can be fun when we manage to win like that, but for me we have lost so many matches playing that way. YNWA.

Too much emphasis on selection, fitness and individuals. We’ve seen the same systematic issues for 3 years now. Even in the quad season those issues were extremely obviously especially post January. Then last year the legs went and exposed the issues with the system even more. There’s is something to be said about the coaching, tactics and system imo and it gets brushed over too much. The system is very good but it’s not the world beating elite system it used to be. Arsenal should not look like a better coached team than us but they do. We rely on individuals and the attack way too much.

Going behind all the time. Seems to be stemming from turning over possession an being overloaded down the channels. Midfield for me are playing shite, apart from alexis. Szloz has been so shite since that 1 good goal he scored early in the season. Endo looked slow AF at the weekend. In fact he was a spare part against that palace team. Wasn’t needed. At times macalister was 3 yards away from him because he was dropping into endos areas. Wouldn’t mind seeing us try another formation now and then (not after losing and reacting) we’re too easy to play against, low block and counter down our right.

Brilliant as always lads........ The stuff about the protest at the end, my thoughts exactly. Some of the comments from "supporters" online haven't shocked me cos lots of our fanbase don't go every game, don't have ST's so there not bothered paying the extra a few times a season. We've had all the OOT stuff in the past, remember the marches against H&G ,how many people stood there filming rather than join the march, i couldn't believe their attitude then and I still don't believe the attitude now. We will always be there, players , managers will come and go we won't. The club sell the club on us, don't bite off the hand that feeds you.We must stand up to them, we didn't get beat by Atlanta because of the flags FACT

I get it’s not just him. But his main role as a number 9 is to score goals. He’s not this false Firmino 9 who we can forgive for not scoring. Darwin is there to yes stretch defences etc but his main role is to score goals and take his chances which he isn’t doing.

That’s why I unsubscribed from him. Talks nonsense. Most of our LFC fan channels keep blowing smoke up the teams backside. All season, we have looked unconvincing, quite poor at times, and front line has needed too many get of “jail free cards”. It’s obvious to most of our fanbase, we ain’t that good “yet”. Lack a lot of quality, and Klopps style, lack of defensive smartness / plan B in set up has cost us over the years. We no high quality “killers” in the team. Until we get those kind of players in our team and a brilliant tactician manager, we may be waiting another 30 years for title no. 20.
