Liverpool held a Barcelona team containing Luis Enrique, Pep Guardiola, Patrick Kluivert and Rivaldo to a goalless draw in the first leg of the 2001 UEFA Cup semi-final.
Back at Anfield two weeks later, Gary McAllister's first-half penalty saw Liverpool through to the final with a narrow 1-0 victory. Barcelona, fielding a young Pepe Reina in goal due to injuries, had chances of their own, but the Reds held firm despite an agonising finale. They famously went on to beat Alaves 5-4 and lift the trophy.

Yep I definitely remember this match .Gary McAllister an old time veteran .for the short time that he spent at Liverpool fc .he was definitely a attacking mid field player /defence mid field player.. Liverpool should off had Gary McAllister way before he joins Liverpool fc.i means he finsh second in the Premier league that year with Liverpool and done a treble that year with Liverpool...old time veteran

И что мы видим сейчас - разница стала колоссальной. Тяжело представить себе барселону в лиге европы. За качество видео отдельное спасибо👍

The 2000-01 season was one of Barcelona's lowest points, and an expression of the worst traits of this (otherwise supreme) club: * Appointing Lorenzo Serra Ferrer as manager just because he was part of the Barca "family". * Millions unwisely spent on epic transfer failures (Petit and Overmars, although to be fair Overmars wasn't bad, just not worth the millions spent for him) * Unbelievably small squad size with ZERO depth: 7-8 top players with the rest being products of the youth team. Once the inevitable injuries and suspensions from cards arrive, the lack of depth becomes punishing.

Barcelona always had the same weakness in those years; small squad (around 20 players) with no depth in the bench. They had stars, but when someone got injured, his place was taken by a useless kid from the academy like Gabri, Gerard, etc.

Barca in that season wasn't top club. Petit is 30 YO. Cocu 30YO. Overmars is 27 but he has so many injures to this time of his career. Puyol played on flank, he never wasnt lateral he is central back, etc.

Back then too many legends playing all across europe and the national teams were insanely stacked. And super competitive. Literally the greatest football era.
