Welcome to Liverpool! One of the most fun cities I have been to in quite some time. The Scousers or Liverpudlians if you prefer were incredible, the food was good, and there were some great sights to see in Liverpool, but I need to give you the best tourist information on Liverpool to get you ready for a visit so we have the do's and don'ts of visiting Liverpool. What not to do in Liverpool.

American here - I spent a few days in Liverpool a week ago & I am absolutely obsessed with the place, its history, its people (!!), the variation of architecture and landscape (half an hour rail ride to Formby will take you to the most beautiful dune beach, while a half hour ride in the other direction takes you to the most gorgeous Parisian park.) And do not even get me started on the food scene - I don’t think Liverpool’s capable of making bad food!! The youthful edge & playfulness give you such a cornucopia of unique activities to do, with the Baltic Triangle being some of my favorite bits of the city. I can’t wait to come back - it felt like my soul’s home. ❤

I am a private hire taxi driver in Liverpool. When the people hear my accent, they always ask where am I from. When I say I came from Hungary, the typical jokes what they say:"I am starving". 😅 One time when I answered "I am from Hungary".he said, "Me too". Of course he wasn't. When we finished the fare, the price was around 5.60 pounds, he gave me a twenty. I started to calculate the change, but he said to keep it. I said is more than triple! What did he say? "But you are hungry!" It was a big laugh. What a guy?! So yes, the people are really friendly and chatfull here and I didn't regret to move here from London 8 years ago.

As someone who moved to Liverpool from the south about 15 years ago, I couldnt agree more with your lovely review. You are right about the sense of humour - Liverpudlians are quick-witted and creative. It's one of my favourite things (my wife is a Scouser). Even when they're seemingly insulting you, it's usually meant in an endearing way. I swear this city is one of the most unique places in the UK. By far the friendliest and passionate city in the country. You can have a chat with strangers in the street without them thinking it's weird. You can't do that in London. I will never ever live down south again. If you're ever thinking of moving here, or just visting, please do it. The people will be so welcoming. Thanks you Liverpool for restoring my faith in humanity ❤

My first Liverpool memory was on the plane going there, after some conversation the man beside me said "in Liverpool, people are gonna talk to you" and I was like...."ok". Then there, I step in to the first pub and I observed that 2 gentlemen obviously not knowing each other (since they where sitting at different ends of the bar counter) starting talking, then the bar woman came towards me and asked in the Scouse accent "what can I get you love?"

Was recently over in England and the vast majority of our tour group (30+ Australians) thought Liverpool was the best place we went to, and that included London. Mathew St on a Saturday night is absolutely insane, especially when the weather is warm. People are fantastic, there’s a lot going on in that area, plenty of live music. Albert Dock is also very nice and spent some time at Crosby Beach which is lovely again in warm weather, and of course visiting Anfield as a Liverpool supporter. Great city!

Whatever his public persona was he won respect from down to earth regular English folk as he felt comfortable just getting pissed & being shown the local sights by Dave with his VW Camper. @@eightiesmusic1984 Liverpool has had issues with homophobia throughout the years as has everywhere else in the country, but it's definitely shifted in the right direction over the past decade, we have a pride weekend here now, and plenty of gay bars and clubs. Eurovision is a very camp event, and everyone is out celebrating regardless of their sexual orientation, because things like that don't matter anymore. Not that they ever should have to begin with. I'd also like to point out hat some of the biggest queer stars of the 80's were from Liverpool. with groups like Soft Cell, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Dead or Alive

I'm from 'down south' (Somerset UK) and have visited Liverpool a few times. Didn't know what to expect the first time, some years ago, and was blown away by the beauty of the architecture, the multitude of wonderful things to see/do, and above all the true warmth and friendliness of the people. I absolutely loved it. I went to all the museums (inc 'the Liverpool museum' AND the 'Museum of Liverpool', the more modern one you showed - both worth a visit, as is the fabulous Walker art one). A little experiment I did this week, I was parked in a car in a major car park in the next big city to Liverpool, a city that will remain nameless, but, ahem ! You know who I mean. So I sat with the hood up, and had the jump leads hanging out the front for half an hour, the battery was flat, but I had a new one in the boot that I jumped started the car with. The people I was with had a one last errand to run, so I waited with my six-year-old nephew, and not once did a person ask if we needed help ? It annoyed me that much, I showed my brother the next day that Liverpool people wouldn't ignore someone in trouble, so I did the same thing, I sat in a Liverpool car park to see what the results would be, and do you know what happened ?, I got fed up with a ton of people asking me if I needed help, hahaha, It's the things like this that make me love my city.

I was born in Hull, raised in the home counties only a few miles from central London but my dad`s job took him north. We lived in Southport 20 miles north of Liverpool and I found my spiritual home.I first encountered loads of Liverpudlians in Southport,it`s suburbs reach half way anyway, then school in Aigburth ending in joining the Merchant Navy and working on Liverpool ships, some sailing from the Pier Head. Then finally running pubs,I married a scouser, raised one son born there but the work took me away and now I live elsewhere but visit ona regular basis, you`re right it`s unique.

Liverpool feels so "different". The atmosphere, the architecture, the riverside, the accent - it feels like you've left England and gone to a different country. Almost. Not quite but almost. listen out for local variations in expressions too eg go for a bevvie = go for a drink a lolly ice = an ice lolly (popsicle to Americans) the bizzies = the police carry out = take-away the ozzie = the hospital Finally, I live in Manchester and me and my friends often hop on the train and have a night out in Liverpool because I like the atmosphere and there are some great places to eat.

Recently moved to the Wirral from London. This review is lovely, Liverpool is hands down a brilliant city, absolutely love it here. Scousers are friendly, fun and kind, great sense of humour and the Mersey is something else, different ships everyday and a surprising amount of wildlife. People who slate it are generally regurgitating tedious stereotypes and don't have a clue what Merseyside is actually like.

I live in Formby, about 10 miles north of Liverpool. I was born here, lived in the USA from age 11 to 25 and then moved back 3 years ago. And my ancestors were some of the Irish fleeing the Great Famine, but they were so poor they could only afford to get as far away as Liverpool! You're spot on about how brutal Scouse humour can be! And you're also right about how Scousers have mellowed about football. Back before my time wearing the wrong kit in the wrong place could put you in danger, but now it'll just get you some good natured ribbing. I bleed Everton blue. Doing the Beatles tour is a definite must for any first time visitor to Liverpool. "Paddy's Wigwam" is an eyesore, but the Gothic cathedral is definitely worth a visit. Liverpool's safety has improved quite a bit lately, but there are still a few no-go areas such as Toxteth and parts of Fazakerley.

Long time subscriber and Scouser here! Thank you for your lovely review of our city, it's so nice to hear! One thing I would like to add is that we Scousers are extremely proud of our city. The negative stereotypes are really not accurate. Politically we're a very left wing city and our inhabitants are mostly working class people. A lot of the negative stereotypes are often classist and made by people who like to demonise people from working class backgrounds who might be living in poverty. Overall the people here are hard working, kind and full of pride. Also want to add that we're very open and accepting here. We're a city built by immigrants (Irish and many other places) and we welcome all regardless of what they look like or where they are from. We are a proudly multicultural city. ✌️
