A look around what remains of Liverpool Exchange Station, a joint Lancashire and Yorkshire, and East Lancashire Railway station which was opened in 1850.
The station was rebuilt in 1888, and would eventually close in 1977. It was replaced by the new Moorfields Station.
The ornate station frontage survives, as do some of the exterior wall and an intriguing entrance to a former subway. The platform area is now under redevelopment and is partly used for car parking.

I was very sad to see the station broken up and it’s tracks removed. It was an impressive building and thankfully it’s main façade was saved. I can even remember the the black 5 hauled services scheduled to call at Preston and beyond. Nice video, many thanks!

Thanks glad you liked the video. Yes great the main building was kept but such a shame the rest has gone. Would have made a great venue for a railway or transport museum. You can't beat a Black 5

@@RWHTrains Good comment! Your Suggestion of a preserved railway or at least a transport trust (incorporating say, buses, trains Liverpool Overhead Railway vehicles and trams) had never occurred to me. At the time, all such potential exhibits were saved and stored at Derby Road depot, Southport including mainline Diesel and steam locomotives and all sorts of road / rail vehicles attributed to Liverpool. That collection would have been perfectly suited to the site. Good point!

Yes I remember Steamport but never got there unfortunately back in the day. It would have been some collection if combined maybe with the bus museum in St Helens and the Wirral Tram Museum.
