I got rid of mine after the 3 years super deal ran out and they were doubling the cost. Then I got the lowest internet deal they offered. After that ran out, I called again and they gave me $5 off per month but that ended. Now my phone/internet bill keeps rising but it's due to taxes and fees added by NY State. I need the landline because I don't get cell at my house. I don't have a cell phone. Its a bummer that it keeps going up They bugged me to get fiber Internet and finally I asked how much is it? It was more that what I was paying but "faster". I laughed and said why would I do that and pay more? They stopped calling me.

Other: I started cleaning one room at a time (one was finished but already wiped out with kiddo power). Will get it cleaned up again tonight. In process of organizing my bedroom. When I first got married, my husband and I would sit once a month and tally up our bills. He called the debt to assets a quick ratio. We did that for years (married over 40 years). Paying off our mortgage early was HUGE and we put every dollar we could into paying it off. It's the only way to get ahead because as the saying goes, you are a slave to the lender. When I was on a flight and looked out the window and saw those thousands of houses below, I thought about how the banks own most of them. Sad. Even sadder is seeing all the new cars on the road and the banks own them too. Debt is a disease that has spread far and wide. Love your advice, very practical.

@@Dreamer-by4nk thank you for commenting. I applaud your effort raising two kids by yourself. However, I must ask, when your kids were toddlers, who took care of them while you were at work? Parents? Daycare? Themselves? I hope not. Regardless of whom, I suspect the caregivers were fairly compensate. We live in a modern complex society with market economy, it is okay to rely on services whether paid or free. In fact, I argue that it is to one’s advantage to utilize these resources to give them and their children the best chance at success. I used to live in Montana and Idaho where there are lots of homesteaders and bugout people escaping from who knows where, not one of them were ‘self reliance’. They all have to use roads, medical facilities, trade goods/services with locals, just to name a few that society provides. Not even Dick Proenneke was doing it alone (btw, he never attempted to do such things). Planes would fly in to supply Dick Proenneke with essentials that he cannot get from the land and in exchange he would provide his cinematographic and photographic work.

Burns almost as long as regular wood, doesn’t take a lot of time and saves me a crap ton of $$ 1: get two 5 gallon buckets (You can get them for free or just a few pennies at the local grocery store bakery) 2: drill holes into the bottom half of one bucket then put it in the other bucket. 3: fill bucket with torn or shredded paper 4: cover with water 5: let it soak overnight 6: pull holy bucket out of the other bucket and let water drain 7: put holy bucket in the yard or somewhere near a drain 8: put water bucket in holy bucket to compress the rest of the water out of paper pulp. 9: remove paper block and set to dry 10: BURN!

I’ve watched about 3 full videos of yours in the last hour. I really like you as a person, at least from what I can tell. You give very practical, useful, and intelligent advice. You KNOW how to save. You KNOW how very very important things work, you know how to stand up for yourself, not let people (or companies) use or extort you for your time or money. You know how to put a little elbow grease into something in order to get the most out of it, AND save, AND put yourself in a better position later on. Jeez. For real. KZfaq needs to reallllly start suggesting your videos to literally EVERY ONE in America. Too many people live far far above their means. I pay everything I buy, with cash, with the only exception being my home at the moment. I owe nobody anything, except my home. Which I got at a price that ppl think is impossible. 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house for 55k? Yeah.. and no. Nothing was wrong with it. Didn’t have to do anything to it. New roof, new flooring installed, and brand new heating and air units before I ever moved in. I was relatively lucky. I know that. But, people can wait. People don’t have to jump right on the first option they find. Stop letting sales people convince you you need 1,000% more than what you actually need. Anyway. Sorry for the rant. You’re amazing. I hope you are successful at everything you do, as I hope we all are.

That is a big reason I don't watch all those popular shows about home buying, home selling, home rehabbing. To me, they try to foster the idea that you need newer, bigger, better homes. (plus, i'd rather watch your channel !!! I totally agree we need more "pride in ownership" My grandmother would wipe down her stove everyday right after finishing her meal. She would take care of all her things. I remember about 30 yrs ago, when the Sears guy came to deliver a new refrigerator. She said proudly of the one that was being replaced "i've had this refrigerator 20 years and it is still running" The installer said "Well this one ain't gonna last that long. @@thriftytowers7160 it’s the best feeling in the world. And funny how my work mates keep moaning how skint they are and saying things like we got our holiday booked to Spain or some place. And I say well stop taking holidays and pay off your other bills 😂 I’m so lucky that my wife and I have a similar outlook We feel rich and now have good money being saved. We’ve cut back on loads we grow some of our own produce in planters and now have 9 kWh of solar installed with 2 x 8.2 kWh batteries so no electric bills either Our total bills on food and gas and water and local government housing tax an 2 mobile phones and internet is under £600 a month when at one point with electric. And mortgage and car payments our monthly out goings was £2100

Another technique to save on gas is to turn the gas water heater to pilot mode and then 2 hours prior to taking a bath turn it back to ‘on mode’. The water stays surprisingly warm on pilot mode for general usage.

That's what I did, I worked till I was 68, so I could collect my full ss and a paycheck for 2 years. Made sure everything was paid off and a stash. I got my first Roku in 2012 and cut cable. I live rural(made sure I bought where property tax is low, $600. per year) and have a well and septic, so no water/sewer bill. I live in a mobile home(I wanted everything on one floor) on acreage(sold my older, much bigger 2 story house), so the electric is higher, but I turn down the electric hot water heater and only turn it up when I take a bath. All my monthly bills total less than $500. per month, so extra money goes into savings and/or prepping. Have LED lighting throughout and also use my Rayo oil lamps, they give off about 40 watts of light each and extra heat(I live in a colder climate), they are almost 100 years old and still work perfectly.

Thank you so much for making these videos. One tip I would like to share. I have electric everything in my house! Yikes right. I trun off my water heater by the circuit breaker when not in use for showers. I do use my dishwasher because I have neck problems and can't stand for long periods abd do them by hand. But the dishwasher has a heating element in it so no need to turn it on. I also use a very good space heater. Only one for 4rooms and a bathroom. My electric bill in Massachusetts is 150.00 in the dead of winter . its great to know someone is cheaper than I. Hehe stay 😎 turning off the water heater saves me aprox. 60.00 a month

I don't have a dishwasher. I do my dishes by hand. I live in a tiny rural town in eastern Iowa. Our water rates are outrageous. My monthly water/sewer/trash bill is over $90. So, I'm very motivated to save on water usage. I put a dishpan in both sides of my kitchen sink, one for soapy wash water and the other to catch rinse water as I rinse the dishes under the running faucet. I also catch the water from washing my hands. I keep a 5-gallon bucket in my bathtub and carry my dishpans of water into the bathroom and pour them into the bucket. I pour the collected "gray" water in the toilet, instead of using the flush handle. It really makes a difference on my bills.

I’ve fallen off the “debt-free journey” wagon so many times. Invariably, the lapse has to do with mental perspective - becoming weary, not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, feeling bad about self, becoming generally discouraged. I appreciate you highlighting wardrobe care and care care as a way of making self feel cared for and content. I imagine household care falls under the same category. Sprucing up what I already own helps in two ways: makes me appreciate what I have and keeps me busy so that I’m not spinning on unhealthy and self-defeating inner dialogues.
