Hi, my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent comes from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work, but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I would only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people consider this the lowest time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly, what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving, and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I have been living full-time in my self convert van.

Maya Angelou said we belong everywhere and nowhere. Knowing and loving all of yourself helps us to realize we are belonging embodied. As long as we are loving our own skins we belong and are never really alone. Really sensitive people need alone time. I am guessing you are a sensitive. I can feel people. Love to you and Kelly!

This is just how it is, I love how you show exactly how Van life is Emi. While I do enjoy mixing with others, I prefer to be by myself in a lovely area where I can sit and take in the wonders of nature. I would enjoy more videos like this as well, very thought provoking. Emi, I am 60 yrs old & pretty much alone in this world except for my cat Squeaker. Outside of going to work, which is difficult because of health problems, I come home & just watch videos & recuperate for the next days work. Alone can be ok. When we are alone with ourselves is the time to really explore who we are as humans in this world we live in. It gives us the opportunity to understand our feelings toward others. I know you truly enjoy your life with Kelly and the freedom you have. As long as you are healthy and able to go and come as you like, isn't that the meaning of life? Sometimes we as humans find ourselves trapped in a life that is truly un full filling. It at this time we find ourselves old and life has passed us by. Leaving us wondering where the time has gone. And not just for her appearance. Emi cleans and tydies her van home, unlike some men and women van lifers who are unkept and their vans are a dirty mess. I refuse to watch these. I realise how difficult it is to live in such a small space and to have to be moving constantly. But if Emi can do it with taste and dignity, so everybody can.

Bachan's Original Japanese BBQ Sauce . Costco in British Columbia sells it . Its very good but sweet , tastes like a teriyaki sauce . Use as condiment or marinade. Consistency is more watery than thick .

Emi, firstly I loved your video. I lived in a van for almost 2 years and if life didn’t need me to change my plans I’d still be doing that. I completely understand how being alone is not the same as being lonely. You have Kelly as well. I had my kindle. That time for me was so necessary to just embrace the quietness after decades of noise . Hope Kelly is feeling better. Thank you for being one of the people who inspired me into going the van life route. Never regretted it and I learned and still am learning so much from you.

I prefer the old talking style. This is nice for something different. You talk to your audience and your cat as well.If you have a pet, you have to talk to them. I always have done so. You are never lonely if you have a cat or dog !

I camp with others but live full time in a small class c with my dog. We are very happy and some days I hardly see anyone. That's the beauty of our lifestyle. Looks like Kelly is feeling pretty well. My prayers are still coming. Safe travels ❤

Hi Emily, it's okay not to talk. I too prefer to be alone. At work I don't say much and my coworker assumes and says I am a boring person. All because I don't talk much. I'm no way near boring, I just prefer at times not to talk or maybe I don't have anything to say. We all have moments when we don't want to talk and be by ourselves. Kelly looked very comfortable on the bed. Safe travels and stay warm ❣️❣️❤️
