One improvement I wish the Syn had is an effects loop in/out on the preamp stage. That would allow a Lokius to be plugged in and stacked together!

In recording studios/live musician rigs, EQ effects boxes are usually run "in line" into or out of other things and is not generally in an effects loop so it makes sense to me why it was not built this way (not that the Lokius is for these applications but it could be if you wanted it to!). I'm not sure if you're using balanced or not with the Lokius but I run my Blu-Ray player, CD player and PC > Modi Multibit 2 > Loki Mini > Syn and it sounds great! This setup lets me control the overall tone of whatever my DAC is outputting and if I don't like what I'm hearing, I can either adjust to taste on the Loki Mini or use the switch on the front of it and turn off all EQ quickly. If you have a Lokius and Syn, I'd highly recommend it!

I’ve been loving my Syn! I use mine in a probably not normal use case. I have a 15 year old Yamaha AVR which I got for free that does Dolby Pro logic 2 (but it sounds terrible) BUT it has a 6 channel input meant for SACD. I plugged the Syn outputs into those plugs and it was an incredible upgrade to an aging AVR. At some point I’ll upgrade to schiit power amps for higher fidelity. But so far, giving Schiit responsibility for the digital and surround processing and just using an avr for power is very satisfying!

I believe that the independent 6-channel analog inputs that your Yamaha AVR has were actually meant for DVD-A and not SACD as SACD was/is primarily a stereo format that can do surround but DVD-Audio was meant to be a 5.1 channel surround format with 24/96khz in all 5 speaker channels that had a downmix option for stereo. DVD-A is amazing with going analog out of a decent DVD-A player. Don't use the digital out as that automatically gets down rez'ed

I had that capability on an old Marantz. I ran DVD-A myself. I'm toying with the same for my current Denon, but alas it doesn't have the inputs. Still doing my research but I'll probably go with 3x Schiit 2-channel amps instead. Very happy with the Schiit sound, not so happy with the Denon. It's been a real let down.

Sounds like Multi-Channel Schiit amp incoming. I mean, it makes sense since releasing the Syn that they would create one. Maybe that will sway me to pull the trigger. 5 tiny amps doesn't really seem like a great selling point. I was waiting for the amp

Check out a 6 channel amp for multi room applications. Lots available for cheap. I have an Elan z660. I’m thinking of getting a syn and using this for at least 3 channels.

I've been contemplating buying Chord Mojo 2 specifically for crossfeed feature but I think Syn is exactly what I've been looking for at less than half the cost. I've been chasing 'holographic' sound and I guess what I've been really looking for was immersive surround music and gaming sound. putting in order for Syn in the morning.

I am 100% eager and interested in having this firmware update that would allow both headphones and RCA outs to output simultaneously. I have a powered 2.1 speaker system with its own control that I use exclusively, so I am probably a perfect test case for this. Shitt, I will mail one of my amps (2023-production Magni or Vali) back for this update, if you're willing.

April 14: Over Easter, MQA filed for bankruptcy protection due to huge losses and the withdrawal of its main shareholder. The company, which is behind the music format that is supposed to provide “better sound than CD” with a streaming-friendly bitstream, claims that the bankruptcy protection is almost a formality while it negotiates with many potential buyers. It now seems that the discussion can be put to rest, as Tidal will also switch to FLAC. This according to CEO Jesse Dorogusker.

This was a great discussion to watch/listen to! I am really interested in the Syn. I have a vintage receiver that I really enjoy and want to try to integrate one with it for watching TV. My receiver is one of the ones from the 70s that has the jumper from the preamp section to the amps and I'm wonding if I go out of the receiver into the syn and then back into the amp if I will be able to control the volume from the receiver or from the Bluesound Node that I am using with the ARC connection with the tv for volume control?

you haven't talked about how SYN deals with the subwoofer signal. ************ i asked Schiit and they answered the signal to the sub is full range. i would have liked a filter for the front and center channel speakers because mine are just 4 in woofers.

editor: insert 3 second clip of office space beating the printer 4:00 -- 18:00 very good points but the floyd stuff came from quadraphonic sources which were only 4 channel but included 360* recording.

what I would be interested in is a syn with a lokius integrated in it. No need for balanced, maybe a budget SE version for around 500 bucks. This would be an amazing source for cans since it has crossfeed then fed into a vidar 2 for the mains... This would be great!

I use my main stereo (Iggy, Freya+, ATC SCM100) with TV set. Actually my source is a standard PC, which allows to consume also youtube, where loads of good and unique music is available (like NPR tiny desk). I really enjoy movies just with 2 channels, but some movies have dialogs with rother low volume vs sound effects. Would Syn help with that? Does it make sense to stuff it in already complete stereo system?

How about a passive Syn that connects to the amp speaker outs...Like the old Halfler idea used in Dynaco products, but modernized. This would be great for people with sufficient amps that can deliver the power needed to power the LCR + LR Surrounds. People on tight budgets will then have an option for surround sound.

I wanna get a Syn just for the physical crossfeed. I use the built-in crossfeed on my ADI-2 Pro FS R BE and also on foobar2000 with my other DACs, but it's software-based. Sounds nice, but I suspect Syn is gonna sound much more convincing.

I've been thinking of getting a Syn. From what I understand it balances the front three channels. Bringing the center speaker forward or back. Left and right speakers it can adjust the timing when they fire, to make the sound stage smaller or bigger. How often do the rear speakers come into play? 20%? While watching a movie will the rear speakers fire every time something goes by? It also has a DAC which will bring more richness to the audio.

Very interseting but what made me crazy while playing with 2 Channel upmixing in DolbySurround etc. was that every recording was very differnt and i always had to change settings. Is that still an issue with that matrix-system?

I’m new to this whole hobby and am kind of confused, I just want to upgrade the Dac in my Denon 5.2 surround system not sure if I need this or a modi 3, if I bought the syn would I even need the denon AVR Receiver anymore?
