Can you still walk out to Tso Nying island? Back in the 18th century, the yogi Shabkar lived on a cave on the island in retreat for a few years. He could access the island over the ice in the winter. In the summer it sounded like he was cut off. This story is told in the Life of Shabkar, translated by Mathieu Ricard. In those days it was known as Lake Kokonor.

Yes. You can still walk out to that little monastery. But so few people do. It is interesting that you made it out there.
