No we really didn't have island fever because we really enjoyed all that the island had to offer. Money wasn't really a factor either for us but it was more we wanted to be closer to family. Not having to fly every time to see them. We wanted to experience life with family and visit Maui.

Mostly shorts but depending on how easily you get cold (I) Krystal would sometimes wear a sweater and warm leggings on the beach at night in the winter months. @FitCrunchyMama
@FitCrunchyMama 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lani! I transferred from Oregon to Hawaii. You just need to get the paperwork online to print and fill out. Make sure you read the directions carefully and don't make any mistakes. Take your time with each section/question. You will need a transcript (unopened) from your school where you graduated to send in and a payment (I used a check). If you make a mistake on the form and send it in, it will take them forever to let you know and have the chance to redo it and correct the mistake. I went through the checklist of everything that needed to be on the form and highlighted it as I finished each part so I knew I didn't miss anything. I did not have difficulty. My friend made a small mistake on something and it took her over a month to get it fixed. Ask away!!!

I was born and raised on Kauai during the 70's and 80's, I moved to Oahu and lived there for nearly 10 years before moving to WA at the end of June 2000, I had to move out of Hawaii because the high paying blue collar jobs are either hard to find or get onto, but at least my parents are still on Kauai and I have a home to go to maybe after I retire. If I was still living on Oahu or Kauai today, I'd most likely be not working almost the entire 2020 and be collecting unemployment.

How long did you two live on Maui and what was it that made you move back?
@FitCrunchyMama
@FitCrunchyMama 3 жыл бұрын
We lived there a little over a year. We moved back because we are both close with our families (California and Oregon based) and we wanted to start a family of our own and not be so far away. We personally noticed that a good majority of mainlanders we met who moved to Maui didn't have very close ties with their families like we do. If you are close with your family and they can visit often or you have the ability to visit back home often then we'd say living on the island long term could be totally doable in that sense. Hope that helped! :) Mahalo!

@FitCrunchyMama
@FitCrunchyMama 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Emily! Krystal here... Yes, it was pretty straight forward to get a license to do hair/esthetics in Hawaii. I worked at a family owned salon in Wailea and at the Andaz Awilli Salon & Spa before applying for my license and officially getting it. If you're good with updo's and/or makeup you can do wedding hair and makeup without a license. I worked for two of the top onsite wedding hair/mu companies on the island and they did not require a license. When you DO apply and fill out the paperwork make sure you read it THOROUGHLY and provide ALL the information needed. I'm pretty sure I needed to send in some documentation (transcripts) from the school I attended with my hours and also something from my old employer on the mainland as well as a check $. If you don't read the directions and provide everything asked and fill it out properly it will take much longer so just cross your T's and dot your I's 😆! Things are pretty relaxed in Hawaii (at least in Maui), this can be great for getting a job but sometimes the processing of documents can take forever (island time). Also, another tip... Hawaii loves reliable, hardworking people... From what I was told, it is hard to find that there, (so many people wanna go have fun) so if you're reliable, hard working, and a good person then you shouldn't have any trouble finding a job! I put myself out there and got 4 job offers within the first 2 weeks I was there, but I took the initiative to go out and put myself out there! I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! Mahalo for watching :)

Kihie is a straight up tourist place. And its the desert of Maui Terrible place to live but a good vacation spot. All prices are set for tourist.
@FitCrunchyMama
@FitCrunchyMama 3 жыл бұрын
Hey William. Yes it is Hawaii and tourism is a huge industry for the island. Another factor for prices is everything is shipped in from a boat. Living there I would define tourism in two categories. Westside (Lahaina/Kapalua) tourism is more disconnected to the local living. Has more resorts, hotels that provide all the amenities to not leave the premises. Kihei has a more local and tourism mix that is more connected to the community of Kihei. Has more airbnbs and smaller hotels that encourage you to get out and see the town. I have to agree with you about how dry it is. Kihei is very dry but it also provides amazing weather with little chances of rain. No one wants to get rained on during a vacation. I see your point of view and appreciate your feedback. Mahalo!

Where is your favorite free place to go see turtles? And whales?
@FitCrunchyMama
@FitCrunchyMama 3 жыл бұрын
There are turtles all over south Maui in Kihei. Our local friend said if you can't find a see turtle..your looking to hard. I recommend Kamaole Beach 2 (Kam 2 Beach) for turtles. The south side of the beach has a great coral spot and good for swimming and snorkeling. The shots in this video were form that spot. Whales, depending what time of the year you are going. Winter time is when they are there (Nov-March-ish). You can see them from the beach but if want to get close I recommend the Alii Nui Charter in Ma'alaea. I would also recommend the aquarium where they have a really cool 3D whale exhibit.

Aloha!! Nice video but the only thing you got wrong is about KiHell, that's where all the tourist go not the West Side!! I find most people that live on the South Side or tourist that vacation there never go to the West Side? Once we visited Napili Beach we never stayed on the South Side again, we found our home!! My wife and I lived in Napili (West Side) for 6 years, I wouldn't last 6 months in KiHell!! LOL. The only reason we'd go to the South Side was to go to Costco, we bought 95% of our groceries there and all our gas there!! We also loved Coconut fish café in Kihei, but now they have one on the West Side. It would take us about 50 minutes to get to Costco from Napili. During Whale season it could take over an hour!! Tourist had to slow down to look at the whales and cause accidents!! Did you guys ever go to Napili Beach? IMO, the snorkeling, surfing and beaches are much nicer on the West Side!! However, we did like Big Beach. Plus, it's cooler on the West Side. My wife worked at a local bar/ restaurant called Paradise Grill, it worked out great because she got to meet tons of locals and we got to do every tourist activity for free. I managed our 2 vacation rental condos. We would rent one year round and the other one we lived in for 6 months and then we went back to Tahoe for ski season and rented it while we were gone. We would only stay for 6 to 8 months a year but one time we did stay on Maui for a year and a half. For us it was just time to move on to the next adventure so we sold both condos about 2 years ago. Plus, trying to get anything fixed during surf season was almost impossible if you were off island. The thing we miss the most are our friends and doing nothing but going surfing, SUP and sitting on the beach all day. I also didn't like that they don't have daylight savings so it got dark around 6:30ish year round. I think we'll go back in a few years to see old friends but a lot of our friends have also moved back to the mainland too. Overall we enjoyed it and glad we did it, you only live once!!

Aloha! That's very interesting. I guess it depends on perspective. we've met a lot of tourists while living on the island who all stayed in West Side so from what we've collected its the opposite from what you're saying. You're the first that doesn't like Kihei but we all have our preferences.

I’ve lived in Waikiki on Oahu, Wailuku and Pukalani. Bought a home 30 years ago in North Kihei and Love it! I shop at Safeway, 5 dollar Friday is the day to shop. FYI Costco is in central NOT South Maui (KiHELL). Sorry, but I think Napili is a tourist trap. My mother in-law had a timeshare there. Beautiful though🌺

@@dv1216 FYI, I know where Costco is! Napili is a ghost town compared to KiHell!

Hawaii charges tax on food, 4.124%, for home, property tax is the lowest in the nation, work for Costco, great company.

Yup. No joke. It was a surprise to us all who were in line. Seem to be a rare event. Watermelon is not usually that on the island.

Do it before kids. Once you have children on the mainland its game over for 18 years.

Haha. yep Red Leg. Exactly why we went when we did. We actually have a couple friends who have moved back to Maui a couple times with kids. I can't even imagine how difficult that would be. Appreciate the comment.

Maui doesn’t need to be promoted it’s way over crowded especially on the roads. I know you mean well, but....no.
