I know some of you might not agree with Daejeon being a rural area but Koreans themselves consider Daejeon as a rural area. and and since Korea is a small country Seoul and Busan are seen as the major cities and everywhere else is just there.

Definitely a city in terms of population, facilities and other city life perks. However, listening to the different firsthand experiences of the foreigners living there one cannot help but wonder about the locals' mindset ...so Koreans might as well be right ... if one were to call them Daejeon city dwellers... which century would they emerge from. Just some general considerations - it seems pretty difficult to reconcile the glamouros image of the country and its people as heavily promoted by its media and entertainment sector with the apparently stark daily life realities foreigners and locals alike refer to, in different venues, not only your chanel. It's a compelling culture nonetheless. And you're doing a great job obviously, seeing how some of your videos have generated some heated controversies .. I feel that quite a few of your subscribers would be happy to get some feedback from you now and then ..

Great insight K-Explorer, truly thinking like a Korean lmao. I'll drop some tidbits that you might know already, but others may not about korean culture - Koreans are generally deathly afraid of speaking English, they have a complexity and even a serious joke saying that "Koreans are the 2nd worst English speakers in the world, first being the Japanese". Many will just ignore you than to be "embarrassed" of attempting to speak english, they are fully aware of how their English pronunciation sounds like and were many memes about this since the 90s. Most asians have this complexity in my experience, even the ones living abroad especially the elders. -1 Advantage of I guess being None Korean would be they assume you are probably less judgmental and cynical than their own countrymen, hence they would lower their guard around you which typical dont happen with koreans in general. I see this with most cultures that are older, Indians, Chinese, Italians and so on. They take keeping up with the Jones alot more seriously but they only do so within their own race oddly enough. -They judge you by the look alot. We say dont judge a book by its cover, but Koreans have a different philosophy that how you are inside is reflected on your face. They are hugely biased toward you if you have a softer look, kinda like that laughing "buddha" statue, if you got that look, you can get away with murder i swear and everyone will think you did it by accident. If you got stronger features, you will look harsh, or "less trust worthy" look sadly. This sounds shallow but historically they aren't wrong since their ally or parent nation Ming or southern Chinese generally have that oval face vs all the invaders in Korean history generally from North Eastern China and Japan have abit more prominent facial features compared to themselves & the Chinese. Ironic that they get plastic surgery to look less round tho today

@@98765432123456789000 You have actually come with more in-depth knowledge that all Koreans should read. Hidden deep inside is their fear of English speaking foreigners no matter the skin color. I have noticed Koreans that are bilingual with the pronunciation and understanding of correct English do very well in life. Koreans that have never left Korea and refuse to learn English, their life is stagnant, even with the actors and idols. They will never cross the world stage without English speaking skills. The Korean Hangul alphabets since they are missing a lot of English alphabets and perhaps a P, might be pronounced with a F (only an example). Their language gets choppy and tangled for them. They really can’t say westerners names, or other countries for that fact. The names have too many alphabets they cannot comprehend and say unlike a Korean born American can. This type atmosphere intimidates them. However, they love saying OKAY, it’s easy for anyone to say😊. The older men and women will not speak English, and no desire to learn.

I agree. I lived in Yeoju when I lived in Korea and that's definitely more of a countryside. I can see a farm right outside my apartment and there wasn't even a single McDonald's in the entire town when I was there. Now that's countryside! 😁
@patriciajackson6285
@patriciajackson6285 Жыл бұрын
Daejeon may be considered countryside because of the terrain area around the city. Travelers do not visit SK to go to Daejeon. It is a college countryside town. Actually, the entire country is small and not as large as some other countries. Seoul and Busan are probably considered city to most. Jeju Island is quiet and beautiful near the water, but is also considered countryside.

I looked at google map and chuckled too. In what country would this sprawling concrete jungle be considered a country side? But K-Explorer knows his shit, this is infact considered a genuine country side by Korean standard oddly enough. Same as China and i assume Japan too, they considered these huge ass cities as "country side".

I am a well seasoned traveler and I noticed that in 3rd world countries outsiders actually get treated BETTER by the locals, even if you go to the most isolated village where people haven't even finished high school, the locals will go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed, people know their country has a bad reputation and they will go to great lengths for you to have a good experience and put an end to the bad stereotypes People in developed countries, i think they are well awayre of the position their country holds in a world wide scale and it kinda goes up to their heads. And sometimes they will end up treating foreigners as a nuisance coming to "ruin" their already precious country. Specially if you yourself are from a country known for being poor, like somewhere from Africa, Latin America or South Asia you'll get some extra bad treatment

There is quite a bit of truth to that. It also depends on how open cultures are. You can have a fairly developed country that is still embraces foreigners like say Portugal. But you're right about people of colour having a harder time generally.

The stories that the girl shared about water being splashed on her friend and having people give them the middle finger really makes wonder what the hell the problem is with Korean people? What are they so afraid of? They show their true nature as cowards. Lots of other people from different countries do not speak English and would never do these things or treat foreigners this way. Imagine your so-called Korean friends behaving like that when you're not around... a little concerning, considering how many stories and bad experiences people have with Koreans. They want to improve their English? They go to the Philippines for that. Many have done so already, why not follow suit?

@theangelofkarma6166 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fq9me5WBmqnWonk.html You call this propaganda? I dare you to watch this and still look at Koreans the same way. Wake the hell up and look around, there are literally dozens of videos, comments, and forum discussions about Korean people being racist, and people having bad experiences with Koreans. So much so that they have developed a reputation as a result and not the good kind. And before you go around saying "bUt nOt aLL kOrEanS aRe LikE tHat!", which may be true, but then it becomes a question of "who can you trust?"
@michaelrespicio5683
@michaelrespicio5683 Жыл бұрын
@theangelofkarma6166 Funny that the signs were in English. Improper English, mind you, which can't be the work of a professional translator. And no, it IS still racist by definition which clearly is "characterized by or showing prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized". The sign that said "No Pakistani or Indians allowed" IS racist, and the fact that it's still there means that nobody has bothered to protest or sign a petition, meaning the general public is okay with that and therefore inconsiderate. Even if some Korean people think it's not right, their inactivity is proof enough they don't care. How can they be trusted and respected? Also, the other sign with "only Koreans allowed" is more discriminatory than racist. Besides, someone could be ethnically Korean and still not know the language due to their upbringing. And did the Korean vlogger speak Hindi during her trip to India? Seriously doubt many Koreans even bother to speak the language of their host country except (potentially broken) English. Last I checked, English is a required course in Korean schools just like most other countries and yet many Europeans seem to do much better. Most Europeans, in fact, know 3-4+ languages, some of them different from their own. Why is it that Koreans have trouble with English at school compared to other subjects? That's just one problem with their overall system
@michaelrespicio5683

@theangelofkarma6166 "When I'm in India, I speak Indian"...that's not what the language is called, you idiot. It's Hindi. India speaks numerous languages depending on the region, but the most widely understood one in Hindi. You just proved you don't know shit
