If you ever wanted a bed big enough for two you could fold the rear seat down and add a small board in to fill in the gap. Love the design with the doors!! Great video!

It is nice to have a handy Dad. Your modifications were very smart and tailored to you needs. Your I Phone has a GPS tracker to let your family know where you are in real time. You should have some bear(or bad man) spray for self defense in the unlikely case you might need it. Use your 6th sense to avoid problems. You are going to have the time of your life. Bon Voyage!

I drive a 2014 mazda 3 hatchback. Next summer I'm planning a drive from Toronto to the east cost...3-4 weeks. I was thinking....why camp in a tent when I can sleep in my car? No worries about rain, just jump and drive if you need to get the heck out. The fact that I'm 5'5" will be just a breeze to make sleeping in it a easy thing👍. I don't need to pull out my back seats. Just fold them down and cut a peace of subfloor/ drywall and a clean carpet area! A small cooler, a storage container on the roof and a bike rack 👍👍. Oh...and some great all season tires for the long drive and some mild off roading. One way or another I'm doing this.

Great video! I use my Mazda 5 as my work van and it has a setup with shelves on the 2 sides sliding doors and it is very nice! I don't know if you are going to go in Canada during the winter, but I do recommend you to spray a lot of silicone lubricant (Jig-a-Loo) on the sliding doors rubber seal, as they do get stuck in ice quite easily during the winter. My 5 is now at 272000km, 169000miles.

Like the build and the design. However, I think you can maximize the space, as needed. 1) With 3 seats and only one person living in there, IMHO it gives away a lot of interior Real Estate Space. If I were to carry the occasional passenger, I would be able to do away with at least one seat. In my case I would only leave the driver's seat. I've also seen where you can 'fake-frame' the passenger seat into looking like a legit seat by removing the factory seat and building a similar storage frame, putting a seat cover on top of it. The front passenger floor can also be used for 'secret storage' by just detaching the carpet and placing a box under, raising the floor a few inches. For the those looking from the outside, they won't be able to tell, more so if you have tinted windows and dark gray/black carpet and seat covers. Putting a windshield sun shade every time you park also helps in the darkening effect. In most municipalities, you can darken the heck out of the windows aft of the driver too, for more security. 2) The rear interior plastic quarter panels also take up some of the width back there. Removing them could have given you some extra inches in width as it happens in minivans. You may also 'replace' that space with 1-inch insulation and still have gains in space. 3) Finally, an extra large cargo box in the roof with a flat, 100 Watt solar panel on top (again, being the panel being this high off the ground won't give it away that easily) may give you extra storage space and provide enough power for a quality (pricey but worth it) Danfoss compressor 12 Volt fridge, power to charge your phone/laptop and the requisite interior led light and usb fan. A Yeti 400 solar generator might do the trick. As someone is more likely to break into a cargo box outside of a car and the fact that they are not able to hold a lot of weight (100 - 150 lbs) you may just want to keep seasonal stuff in there (winter clothing/shoes/comforters) or other non-perishable items/supplies instead of pricey items like a toolbox/tools, etc.

Ohmuhgosh. I started watching and appreciating your videos like 4 or 5 months ago. I never paid any attention to what kind of vehicle it was but it just so happens I just got a 2014 Mazda 5 minivan totally by chance. That is pretty crazy because they are not super popular.
