@itchydiscoman Sometimes tourists who come to Belize see the dark side of the country because their destination is mostly to San Pedro island/Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, and for them to reach to their destination, they have to pass through Belize City in the Belize district. The Belize district is the poorest district therefore violence is present. And tourists have to be very careful. As a Belizean I'm not gonna say the country is safe cause it obviously isn't but only certain parts of the country is dangerous and the country has a high murder rate since it is very small. I'm pretty sure if USA or any big country was small, they would have the highest murder rate. School shootings/mass shootings, big gangs such as Bloods and Crips that overrun cities like Chicago, Altanta and LA exist. Chicago has extreme war-like violence that it was nicknamed Chiraq (Chicago/iraq.) America is just as bad as this country but the only reason it doesn't look that bad is because it is a big country. If you see that the country is too violent it is because your looking at the wrong places cause we Belizeans barely hear about murders on the other districts. Not saying there isn't, there is but not all the time. We barely hear about these things in the other districts. There are 6 districts and each has its own attractions. So much activities and places to chose from but tourists decide to go to the most popular ones where you have to pass through Belize district. Jamaica has a very high murder rate, even higher than Belize and nobody says anything about it.

I absolutely want to see it now! I remember some years back working for a lady from Belize. (Everybody thought she was from this island or that, but something told me different.) So we got to chatting and I asked her what it was like for her when she came to Chicago. She laughed and laughed! She said there are more people living in her high rise than in her whole country, so what did I think of THAT?! She was overwhelmed, but fell in love and has a good family. That being said, when I asked her, "Do you miss it?" she didn't miss a beat and said, "Every day."
