Insurance period in FL. Home insurance is through the roof - 7k a year for a beat up house in the stix, let alone something nice. And that's not even covering medical costs. FL has some of the most expensive medicine in the US. I actually visit relatives out in other parts of the US for anything that's not an ER visit. The airfair + out of pocket is half of what I'd be charged in FL.

@peaceful_chaos14 Notice how the original commenter said "1 bed" and didn't specify if there was a bathroom. It's possible it's one of those apartment setups where multiple units share a bathroom. In that case, 2700 is in range depending on what part of the city. I personally wouldn't live in NYC.
@sowpur

@cyclicmusings2661 That person is most likely making a lot of money than they were in Houston. Given the crime rate in Houston, auto theft, property taxes, insane health insurance premiums while getting worse healthcare than NYC, extreme heat and storms, tough to see Houston fairing that much better. Only selling point is warmer winter lol

Same in Florida. It’s based on purchase price. If you buy a $500k home taxes are closer to $12,000 not $2000. I bought my house in 2015 for $238k and my taxes are $4k. You can look up any house on the county property appraisers website and most have a purchase price calculator.

As a Floridian, go to Texas and I don’t mean this a “FlOrIdA iS fULl” thing. We get hurricanes all the time. Just now, we’re getting one sometime this week. This may or may not mean that your employer has to shut down for the whole week. If you get flooded, you’re not leaving your house for 3 days. If you’re employer is decent, they’ll pay you to sit at home, if not, your out of a paycheck for a week or two. Seriously, I know TX has its issues, but it’s definitely a better move.

I actually currently and both states. As a homeowner in Florida, homeowners insurance isn't too bad in Fl. Depends on the county and how close to the beach you're. Auto insurance is way higher. I pay 300+ for 2 vehicles, and i have a perfect record. Verus Texas i was paying only 150 a month. Groceries are higher here, gas higher here, fuel taxes properly than Texas. Groceries sucks here. Shout out to a HEB, aka Central Market. Pubiix in FL sucks. Apt in Texas is high, Dallas areas new apt, easily 1500-2k for a 1bd, Florida and be the same depending where you at can way higher. Twxas has way better higher salaries. Depending on field easily 75k plus. I work in Texas, making over 100k, while i still stuck here. I paided 400k for my house in Fl, 30 mins from beach. If you decide to move to Fl plz do your homework food, gas, utilities are higher tax are higher than Texas. But there's way more things to do here than Texas.
