Les - You made an important contribution. And there is a cheaper and maybe better way to address the issue of assisted living. In Thailand a licensed caregiver makes about 24 to 27,000 baht a month. Here in Pattaya, you can rent a wheelchair-accessible condo for 10 to 12,000 baht per month, with ramps, elevators, and in-room washer. Rent TWO condos in the same building -- one for you and one for your caregiver. For about 36,000 baht per month you have 24-hour support. You can encourage her to pick up other elderly clients in the building so she makes more money with you than with an agency. Everybody wins. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful video and beautiful location, could be what we are looking for, but according to what we have heard you can't actually buy an apartment at the Sunshine Hills location, only long term rent for 30 years in compliance with Thai laws. After that one might have to pay the full price for another 30 years again or move out! My husband and I are both 62 years old and in good health, so perhaps we have a fair chance to see our 92nd birthdays, but unthinkable having to move out when you are really old and need the care they promise! (if you don't have the money for paying the full price again). So this location probably is only an option if you expect to live less than 30 years.

Thank you Les for this wonderful video that is of immense value to Retirees. What I would’ve loved to see included are owners or tenants of one of those complexes being interviewed,by yourself,to tell us what is it like living in these complexes. A sample of the experience of life on a daily basis would be interesting to hear ie the pros and cons. Thank You again for your valuable work.

You are sooooo right. Don't want to find yourself in a ghastly North American institution... but you also don't want to find yourself alone and vulnerable in Thailand, incapacitated by a stroke or dementia. Horns of a dilemma...

A bit of a rip off. The holiday packages are 80k a month. You can get a 12 month lease on a similar unit for 15k a month. Even if you double or triple that it's still a bit of a rip off. 45k a month plus 35k in what? An on call nurse, weekly cleaning, and continental breakfast? It's not a terrible deal, but clearly a money maker. I would look elsewhere.

Great intro to a very important topic. Having seen it up close, I don't want to be warehoused in a Canadian facility with tasteless food and surly staff... but I also don't want to find myself alone and vulnerable in Thailand, incapacitated by stroke or dementia. Horns of a dilemma...

It was impossible to give the prices as there were many variations this might be another video with a price structure I will ask them to provide more information but if you want more price information then email lorenz@sunshine-residences.com he will gladly send you the information, but a ball park figure it is around 80,000 baht per month for a short term stay and cheaper the longer you stay. The Condo's start from just under 5 million and the houses are around 10 million Baht. Thanks for watching

Thank you Les. I had a look at the web site, appears to be aimed at purchases of units. I could not find anything on monthly rental. Tried to download prices via link, not available. Otherwise looks a quality option for some people. Many thanks.

If you email him direct then he will email you back with the information you require. lorenz@sunshine-residences.com They sell units but also rent out for care they send me lots of info about costs but it would of made the video far too long as every individual is different in their needs but a ball park figure is 80,000 Baht per month cheaper for long stay.

The dementia care is actually very good. We witnessed it for ourselves first hand. If I was a dementia patient, I would feel comfortable with Sunshine.

Thanks for the comment we visited many homes during my time in the Fire Service and we all said is this what we can expect when we get old here in Thailand it was nothing like the homes in the UK.

This is a very nice assisted living retirement place. However I get the impression that it would not provide high end care like in a nursing home e.g dementia patients. I visited the website and the links to details about rental costs are broken or time out.

Not everyone wants to be on camera and I also respect their privacy, I talked to a few guests and they were more than happy with their stay. You are welcome to visit and look for yourself. You will like what you find.

Thanks for that, as a firefighter in the UK we did inspections of nursing homes and we all said the same thing is this what old age looks like, but here in Thailand it looks better than the alternatives. Cold damp and kept inside the property from October till April because it is too cold, You watched the video, a couple of old ladies swimming in the pool in December. Although the Prestige facility may be really nice when they finish building it. The neigborhood around the original facility is not great.

Les you need to sort out the gray hair in your eyebrows. They look like they are stiched together very badly. The villas make no sense. Why do you need 2 bedrooms if you are an OAP. 1 bedroom units would make more sense and there would be more of them. Just my thoughts of course.

@RetiredandLivingthedream that is why so many people had to leave Spain. Everyone was making sure they had room for guests. Who wants to stay at an old persons place. Not me. Why would you buy a 2 bed unit just so your kids get a free months holiday once a year. Madness.

They do have 1 bedroom units available. Just not as villas. They are condos.

Also, the villas are not huge. They are a nice size for an elderly couple. The Prestige facility will have rentals also that are a bit smaller. Many different choices that aren't shown in this video.

It shows demand for the concept and it shows with high occupancy rates also building in Pattaya and Chang Mai.

@@RetiredandLivingthedream yes concept I have thought of before, just sounds like condo with emergency cord. The hotel part probably makes sense for visiting families but I wouldn’t want 100,s of new people around all the time
