*IMPORTANT!!!!! SOME OF MY RESPONSES TO EMAILS AND COMMENTS ON THIS & SIMILAR VIDS: Been feeling slightly alarmed (and worryingly responsible) at the amount of responses from folks stating they may just pick up and move across the world based on a 15 min YT video.... Here's an email response I just sent to a guy who said he's considering quitting his job and moving here (despite never even been here before....) ============== -Honestly, you may think you could live on $800 month/$1000 month etc here but at that budget life would be very basic (plus wouldn't include insurance, visa costs, emergencies, etc etc etc). Personally keep to approx $1500 budget and find that 'just' covers having a modestly enjoyable lifestyle here (one's milage may vary of course). Both health insurance and long term visas can be costly especially depending on age. Under 50 health insurance approx $100 month and over 50 insurance gets increasingly expensive, factor $300 month-up. Visas: Elite visa $17K USD for 5 years, 60K USD for 20 years. Retirement visa you must show either 65k THB/$1900 USD monthly income, or 800kTHB/$23,000 USD in a Thai Bank account. Many under 50's do get other visas such as education visa to learn Thai Language or Muay Thai etc but this is a short term solution and they're cracking down on abusers. Thus, BEFORE you say 'take this job and %#$@! it' and jump on a plane to move to Thailand... would recommend at a minimum coming for a visit FIRST. YT'rs like me can make it look all wonderful but of course daily life is much different than a 15 min YT highlight vid. So, please, BEFORE making any commitments (or burning bridges) come have a look first. Then, if you still feel the same and are financially sound, do a longer test (say 6 months) to see if daily life here really meets expectations, suits your lifestyle and your budget. Good luck STL

Brilliant advice and spot-on. Life isn’t all that it seems to be on a screen. Have been to Thailand before and it was great, not perfect but very good, considering this or Philippines as a possible destination. But it’s all part of a 5-year plan. Currently on year 2 of that plan. Keep up the great content pal and keep on enjoying that good life✌️

i SOOOOO agree. I traveled back and forth to Thailand from San Diego (I actually had a "real job" at one time, 5555) for ~7 years. The last few "vacations" were each over a month. Additionally, I tried out Singapore, Malayasia, Philippines, Vietnam. That said, I also tell people, as long as you have a solution for getting "back home" (e.g. ~$2000 USD for plane ticket) and a way to live back there (obvisouly don't burn any bridges in life is a wise policy) It can be a great way to truly experience another culture... i.e. being forced to a.k.a. Immersion. Everyone has their process but personally, I like to become as much of an 'expert' in topics so that i feel comforable making a choice... ALWAYS love your vids and perspective my Canadian friend! Live the Dream. ciao.

Once the high speed train is up and running reducing the travel time to and from Bangkok, I can see the prices rising. Hua Hin would probably be my pick of places to retire. Has not got the burning season like Chiang Mai. Has some night life but isnt as full on as Pattaya. Doesnt have the Smog problem of Bangkok. Cheaper than Phucket.

I've been living here for 2 years, it's a beautiful city. The beach is beautiful and very long, safe, clean, with complete facilities. Since I moved from Bangkok to Hua Hin 2 years ago after working from home. I recommend if you are visiting, renting a car for 25$-30$ per day is very worthwhile. It is only 2 hours away from Bangkok. Of course, if you rent a car from Bangkok, you can easily drive to Hua Hin and Pattaya. I want to say that buying a condo here is really worth it. I bought it for $25000 2 years ago. and now the price has gone up 25%. It a good choice 😍😍🍻🍻👍👍✔✔

I gained a whole new appreciation for your production values recently after viewing someone else's jerky and poorly planned video. You're one of my very favorites. I discovered you on a video where you were bopping around the Philippines and meeting people. I remember you came across people celebrating a birthday and were invited to have some food with them. I thought, now that's the kind of people I want to live around. Thanks again, Carson from SoCal.

I would live in Seamira House (5 year old hotel near soi 94, ask for a room facing the pool), they have monthly rates < 11k, it's next to the new train tracks (not active) and the Baan Khun Por market (very nice place for a meal with live music). Other choices for condos with rooftop pool are The room (5.5k-8.5k depending on the floor) and Parin Residence (8-10k), they're also next to soi 94. I stayed in La Casita 2 months ago, it was also fine, the pool was great. For restaurants, I'd advise Ken's kitchen (best curry ever), Shiva (great Indian restaurant with a nice garden), Ogen (middle eastern) and Flavours (nice burgers).

5:02 That Hilton Hotel used to be Melia Hua Hin that my mom used to work as front desk staff back in late 80s to mid 90s. It used to be a 5-star hotel as Melia and then Hilton took over sometime in late 90s and make it a 4-star hotel. I loved their multi-tiered swimming pools hope they still keep it. Good memories of my early childhood there staying in Melia suite like a month for free.

I just discovered your videos and am Blown away!!!! I started to watch when I first found the video where you start to actually TALK as that's my speed. So many people want a human aspect to it and the videos previously didn't give that. I am glad your keeping the original DNA and adding to it. Also, I think you can expand and try NEW things. :Like Adventures and showing more nightlife and again, things you can do in town and the area.

I also use to rely on the small fitness gym at Sport Villa back in 2004 rehabbing my knee and take advantage of the nice swimming pool. The restaurant was pretty good as well with poolside tables to eat lunch. I called Hua Hin home for a few years and perhaps again someday. Thanks for the side trip around town.

The last one was the most beautifully decorated / homey feeling and appeared the cleanest to me. Only thing missing is a bathtub... but I guess you have a giant one 5 minutes away. 😅🌊 Have fun choosing! ☺️✌🏼

Thank you 🙏 so much, I am impressed 😮, all looks great to me. One day will escape Melbourne winter for a month or 2 even 3 will do. I thought Hua Hi. Is just a small village, visited Thailand 🇹🇭 more than 20yrs ago, the train from Bangkok just stopped only for few minutes and later was heading to Shurat Thani & last stop was Kuala Lumpur, very very clean train 🚊

Wow - I really enjoyed watching this after returning home from a three month stay in Hua Hin. I stayed in a condo at la Casita which is not the cheapest but was quite nice. Each morning, I would use the gym at Sport Villa and then head down to the main beach for my morning beer - I would always park my scooter outside HOC, Amazon or Father Teds. Unfortunately, the two restaurants on Monkey Mountain have since now closed. They both had great inexpensive food and an awesome view.I like your advice about just riding around and having a look. In retrospect I probably should have done the same thing as the pool at my condo was so shallow that it was really only suitable for kids, and not doing laps or diving.

If you can find these prices take it. A one room shared bath in the Klong Tohey ghetto costs more. Beer 70 to 90 baht in happy hour then average 120 baht a bottle. Cigarrets are 150 baht a pack.

Really appreciate the boots-on-ground, practical videos. Question: in your various hotel, condo hunts, do you encounter many bugs/roaches in them? My rather specific phobia, but I’m curious. Thanks!

Me too. Bugs and critters is a deal breaker. I know someone going there in February this year staying 20 days so I will get a better idea when they return. It sounds like all the additional expenses mentioned makes it no so cheap. Especially for someone on a fixed income. Also future prices could go way up like for instance Mexico . Mexico has priced most retired people out. Just to enter the country to live requires a high income plus a big savings account people going to Mexico to save money do not have those fund. Looks like Mexico is discouraging people to move there. That is the problem. You can give up everything to move overseas then end up finding unexpected changes. I like Sicily and Portugal. Sicily first because it is on the ocean but they are all too far away from family. For me family is more important than places but good luck to all of you who plan to make the move. Cheers 🥂🍻

it's really crazy that most Americans think they live a certain way and other places don't have it as good, when in fact a very large portion of the world has it just as well if not better than we have it, and for much cheaper, and with nicer people around with much less drama between relationships and law enforcement and everything else.
