There is a reason why electricity is very expensive in the Philippines. During the 1990s, there were lots of blackouts. In order to solve the problem, the president then signed a deregulation law that allowed companies to charge higher and charge losses to the bills. That encourage companies to build power plants. So, think about it, the reason they are cheaper in the US is because there is a regulation.

Life in the Philippines is great!

This style and place of living isn’t like “typical” living the Philippines that one normally sees on KZfaq channels and doesn’t depict the “normal or average” lifestyle and budget of expats who live there. Sounds exactly as he says “living in Singapore” So, I hope most prospective expats don’t assume this is like a budget Honolulu or Singapore, unless that is what one is looking for.

How’s the experience?

International schools are very expensive in BGC. It’s about $1k for a private grade school in metro Manila outside BGC. Cebu, iloilo, CDO or Davao have much more reasonable private school tuition fees.

you can retire in gensan the best schools are quantum and christian hope school. the latter is where manny pacquiao's kids went. $200 tuition a month. ordinary private schools are around 3-4k pesos a month but crowded so your kids will not get top notch education. you will need to spend more if you want the best for your kids.

@@ronnelacido1711 Yes, but it is still too much. I know in the province building a house now also is very expensive. Just to build a simple and small house will cost at least one million pesos. And that is probably really tiny. The materials like cement and blocks are very expensive. Even building a house made of bamboo could be expensive. In the old days you can easily find bamboos for free in the wild but now you have to buy bamboos since most of the places where bamboos used to grow have been flattened and turned into subdivisions!

They’re not living in the middle of a province where it’s cheap - they’re living in / near BGC. The cost of living and quality of life is higher here.
