I think next time try using a y branch and cordage to remove bottle out of the hot coals. One side of the bottelneck you put the Y of the branch and with cord attached basicly "snare" the bottle neck tightly against the y branch

Two wonderful long videos on one weekend to kick off the Smooth Gefixt summer. I like how Dylan thought about outmatching Julius and still had longterm goal in mind, when assembling his bottle. Julius in the meantime continued to flirt with the fire. It was really a bummer, you did not catch any fish. But everyone should be happy, because we got to see Jäger eating.

I was scared Julius was going to cook himself wrapped up in foil like a Christmas turkey, then he said he put the fire out, phew! a real good effort on the worm charming J, Dylan's oats & lentils were a good plan, great mini series guys, thanks 😊 just for fun im going to see what i can fit in a bottle for an experiment

Great video. I really like this format. I learned a few tricks from your video. I had the same problem with a rechargeable lithium ion battery from a flashlight. Some of those batteries have a protection circuit built into them that shuts the power off when they short circuit. I bet that is why it didn't work. I have found that the firefly ferro rod works better if you plant the teeth of the saw in the tinder and drag the ferro rod across the spine. That is how firefly recommends that it is used. Keep up the good videos.

Great to see you folks back! I had a really bad experience with heating rocks once, by picking the wrong kind. I put a few chunks of slate into a fire to let them warm up and keep the heat longer than the amount of fuel I had. But they must have been too flaky, and must have had water penetrated into them, because after about half an hour they exploded and sent shards of slate all over the place. The fire fuel all burst up and scattered too. Thankfully this was all just in a barbeque pit on a patio area outside a holiday cottage, so no chance of starting a forest fire - but I'll be far more careful in future!

The battery you tried to use was an 18650 which is usually a lithium cell of some sort and the reason you couldn't get it to work is that they often have a protection circuit in them to stop them shorting and it's a good thing to as they can explode when shorted so you it may have saved you from a nasty burn.

I know this is a late comment, but I have just discovered this fantastic video series guys! Seems like a reoccurring problem is the water boiling containers being too damn hot to move from the fireside. Simple fix for you. Take two sticks and make essentially a pair of nanchucks out of them. Wet the cord, flip it over the jar/bottle and cinch the jar quickly then remove before the cord catches fire. Now, it would also be smart to test for the proper cord length between the sticks before you have a jar of boiling water to deal with. Imagine it as using the cord to confirm and grip around the back of the container while the sticks grip the sides and also create tension. That would be 3 sides of contact---more than enough to move the container. Anyway, great series, will be watching them all.
