As a city boy myself, I'm glad those dudes were nice and all but for good reason sometimes you gotta keep your guard up. Who knows what some dudes lighting fireworks at some dead end street by the water in NYC are gonna do next. And the fact that you had your truck open and they could see all the stuff you had... just be careful out there Mav 💚

Man I get nervous for Maverick sometimes he's such a light-hearted and friendly guy a lot of people don't understand how dangerous people can be in a city like that especially when you're doing something like sleeping in your car. Thank God those guys didn't have bad intentions because they saw his whole setup and there's plenty of expensive things in that truck not to mention whatever cash he had on him and the film equipment. Also that ambulance build that was parked next to his truck was fucking awesome I want one of them so bad.

Man I was thinking the same. And the fireworks thing almost seemed like an excuse to look at peoples camping setups/test response times. My guess is that they probably deemed him a bad target and moved on to casing something else. But I assume the worst in people lol.. also my friends have an Ambulance setup, you should definitely go for it!

As a native New Yorker born and raised but no longer living there, I’m stoked that you chose to visit NYC in your famous camper truck and felt adventurous enough to park and cook at a dead end street in Brooklyn in the middle of one of the worse summer heat waves to hit the area in a while. And while fireworks were going off around you by a group of guys who thank God turned out to be friendly to you and not the sketchy/scary kind. You just never know who you encounter in NYC. But you have the magic touch Mav. Like you said, you try to get along with everyone in your travels and you handled the incident beautifully with classy calm even though I saw the concern in your face. Me- I would’ve been really worried and half-panicked since I’m a woman. Thanks for coming over to visit Gotham City and your newly designed bags are beautiful & awesome. Keep on truckin’ Mav and stay safe. Love your videos and I’m a subscriber.

Back in the 80s we'd occasionally drive through the City on our way to spend the weekend in New Hampshire. We'd see cars all along on the side of the road, just abandoned. By Sunday afternoon they would be torched frames on our way back home. We were advised that if our car ever broke down there to take everything out of it we wanted and wave a fond farewell to the rest, don't wait for a tow but get while the getting is good. When Mav walked away from his truck I thought it was the end of it, that when he came back it'd be a graffitied hulk on blocks.

As someone who is a New Yorker I agree 100%. I'm coming into the work force now and I'm making sure to work for a big company that has many branches across the country, that way I can eventually move to some other branch and move out of NYC. It's crime invested and has only been getting worse, the subways are littered with mentally ill and homeless people while smelling like piss, and the city is plain out dirty. All that for a small closet for 200% higher cost than a decent size home anywhere else in the country.

7:37- Don't be so sure that rock wasn't naturally in Central Park! It's hard to believe since it's almost entirely covered by buildings and the street grid, but Manhattan was once a very wild island with unusual rock formations and landscapes! BTW, according to the occupying British troops (who surveyed the island during the US American Revolution) Manhattan Island had new fewer than 30 (yes thirty) freshwater rivers and streams flowing to all its shores in the estuary (and the Hudson River was famous for having zillions of OYSTERS swimming in it)!

I would have been afraid to tell someone to not do something. Some people take it as you bossing them around, and want to fight. You were lucky they left you alone. I have been friends with several people from new york, and even got my first love who was born there when I lived in florida. A lot of new yorkers there. Glad you are safe to keep traveling, make new videos, so keep on truckin'.

Yeah that was a horrible choice. Anywhere that heavily tagged up is obviously not regularly patrolled by cops. Not the kind of comforting area you wanna fall asleep in. Homeless people in tents and hookers were probably sleeping on the ground right on the other side of that wall lol

omg, I just got so much anxiety from seeing this traffic in Ny and just imagining trying to find a place to camp. Reminds me of being in my van (with a boyfriend and a cat!) in nearing grunge end era Seattle in my early twenties...early on we resorted to only parking in family or well known friends driveways because we never knew if this beast was going to start...so if it didnt at least we were usually somewhere pretty safe but we didn't have anything remotely close to wifi back then so going off grid wasn't really a thing lol

Hey Mav, another great video but I was concerned for your safety. Although it doesn't get so tense on most of your journeys but I'm sure travelling so much across the USA and Canada, you must have safety concerns and measures on all your journeys. Would be interesting to know your experiences and hear about it. P.S. I remember an old video where you heard gun shots while camping.

I briefly lived in Bushwick, Brooklyn and rode that same train line daily. Personally I think NYC is one of the most overrated places on the planet but I also appreciate the little things, like personal space… and walking barefoot… and clean air… and driving. I moved back down south as soon as my lease expired. It’s not the place for laid back, wholesome people. Seeing Mav navigate that town gave me anxiety… glad you’re ok.

It’s just not for everyone. Definitely an amazing City with way too many restaurants and food to choose from. Has its ups and downs like every city, more downs these days I’ll admit cus the crime recently. But it’s an amazing cultured City
