Welcome to my tiny house in Orlando, Florida where I live simply and sustainably! I built this tiny house along with friends for under $1,500, with nearly 100% secondhand materials and while creating near zero waste- just 30 pounds of trash!
This setup allows me to live simply so that I can dedicate my time to the service of others and the earth. It also serves as a demonstration site for those who desire to live simply and sustainably.
In this tour I show you the inside of my tiny 100 square foot house, my outdoor kitchen with greywater, my rainwater shower and rainwater collection system, my closed loop compost toilet, my garden and more!
I also discuss minimalism, simple living, voluntary simplicity and more.
I have created an FAQ to answer most every question that has arisen about my tiny house. You can read that at www.robingreenfield.org/tinyho...
To learn about the build and more details you can watch this video and read this guide: robingreenfield.org/tinyhouseb...

This man was probably a monk in his past life. To have his minimalist mindset does not come naturally to most people, especially in this materialistic country.

I love moving and giving away possessions. Ironically when I left California, I donated my favorite kitchen table to someone in need. When I got to Minnesota the church donated me the same exact wooden table.

I am in my minalism journey for 4 years. But started minimalism journey (with a mindset to practice zero waste living - i am not perfect at this) for 1 year. I truely hope to be like you one day, to just own 100 items or really to challenge my space and reduce time to make sure I can maintain a just enough items to live mindfully. I have experiences the highs and lows of the process of decluttering but I think there is a big wave of multiple phases during the begining of minimalism. Decluttering MINDFULLY is something everyone should really consider doing and that it really does take a lot of time and energy (can be years). I went from 800+ items in my wardrobe, including accessories, shoes and bags down to 108 items. I first really had to focus on what my goals will be for the 10 months span / 1 yr span depending on how long the declutter would take me. Wow I am still in the process ofdecluttering mindfully. Now what I mean by decluttering my wardrobe mindfully, I mean to not donate my items and throw it out in the trash bin. Why? Because they all end up going into the landfill (may not all but donated items do end up being sold to 3 world countries or being tossed to the trash) they can out hold that many items in a donation centre. We need to be more careful of how we say goodbye to these items. And this is something no body HARDLY talks about. It's the dark side that ppl want to avoid. We need to educate people the dark side and that hard part of minimalizing to live a meaningful life, because IF you avoid this process I honestly do not understand how someone can learn to not revert back to their excessive lifestyle. I imagine it would take them twice as long to get there compared to ppl who have descarded their items mindfully. It seriously helps you learn a lot of your habbits/hobbies/and unbuying items is seriously hard.

Cant wait to see where you go next! We're planning to (after somehow saving up the money) move out of a crappy renting environment, onto our own bit of land, and sustainabily live here in texas. The complication is both our jobs require technology, and so thats been a grueling process of trying to find a place 'near' work, that has all of our needs, that we can have our dogs on. (One is a pitbull and you know how people are about that). Ever video you post is so enlightening and encouraging. Please keep posting. Heres to hoping you make a series one day on living in the cold climates, or one in the disaster areas (like texas after the hurricans and flooding, which has left people without food or homes) Just to show people it is possible, and to help out others too. Thank you again, for sharing your journey!

I need to get a water system setup, we have a well but need a new pump. Can't do rain catchment yet because the only roof is shingles. I want to have less waste as you have done. We compost and have a garden but that's not enough. We still have too much trash imo. I'm going to keep at it tho and put some of the things I learned today into practice. Rob thanks for putting out this summary. You are one of my main inspirations. I've been using a bucket system for a couple of months now and I find it totally convenient and love the water I am saving as I live in Tucson where the water is very precious not to mention expensive. We really shouldn't be flushing away potable water. I just put a small bucket with a lid in my shower that I pee in. TP goes in there too. I dump that into my compost pile every day which only takes about a minute. Poo goes into a 5 gal bucket with sawdust (any carbon material works) in a "mud room" next to my back door. I will eventually make a curtain of some kind to hide it. That has to be emptied about every 4 days. I just bought a round toilet seat and set that on top of the bucket - works great for sitting. I also stopped buying cat litter and now have an area of good soil in the yard and I just fill the litter box with that - my cat loves it and it has to be emptied about every 4 days back onto the area where I had gotten it or into the compost pile. This compost pile is one that will compost for 2 years before use as recommended in the Humanure Handbook. If you had some sandy area in your yard or area the cats would like that even better. So I love this simple set-up like yours. Mine saves me money on my water bill, no cat litter to buy, no external fertilizer cost needed for my plants, the water on the compost pile gets double use as you point out, no cost to my system except a couple of buckets. It will never wear out. I will now add natural TP to the set-up. I am not sure that plant you recommend will grow in Tucson but I'll find something. Lamb's Ears - you know that one? I'll go to our local native plant nursery and go around rubbing my face on plants until I find something soft.
@jandeligans2834
@jandeligans2834 4 жыл бұрын
@@ringingcedars4461 It goes straight in the compost bin which is just a circle of chicken wire in my case. I also put yard waste and kitchen scraps in there to help balance it out. You would keep filling it until it can't take any more - which takes a long time because it decays down really fast - and then leave it for at least 1 year so that everything is thoroughly composted. It helps to keep a side pile of yard waste - leaves, grass, even plain dirt, etc - to put on top of the humanure deposits and that keeps flies away. And no one can tell it's anything different than an ordinary compost pile. For years I didn't do this because the whole thing seemed too complicated. Then I finally decided that I was being so silly - I live alone and just sticking the toilet seat on the bucket is all I needed. So anyway - good luck to you. Do your own thing - there's really no downside to it at all and much to gain. And if you need more advice - The Humanure Handbook is the Bible of human composting. But it's way more info than you really need.

Hi Rob,Im in the uk and have been following you the last 2 weeks, I do grow some of my own food and I'm trying to find ways to cut down on waste.I've just sold my house for something smaller and already packed up waiting for a date to move! I shall be planting fruit bushes etc but have got to figure out the lie of the land as it's a lot smaller where I'm going. I'm very interested to see where you go from here and am very much looking forward to the next update :)

I used to live like this for 3 years. Showers outdoors from a huge pot heated on the fire. living in a rent free shack in the mountains 3M x 3M (10ft square) with up to 4 other people at times. Sometimes alone. Now my life is a mess and i have 10million possessions and a house, 5 vehicles :D
