Thank you for this. A friend of mine that recently got married insists that i live with my future husband whenever I meet him. Big no for me. She’s an exception still bc she found a man that was going to marry her whether they lived together or not. Men get comfortable and giving each other spouse duties without a commitment produces comfort and stagnant. That excuse of “oh you have to see how ppl live” just proves that you don’t truly love that person like you claim if you can’t deal with them being messier than you or not compromising on certain things. Marriage isn’t a roommate situation where everyone gets their way in order to co-habitat in peace. Many things that are reserved for marriage, nowadays are being given in relationships that could easily end at the snap of a finger. Why buy the membership when the free trial is for life??

My boyfriend and I have talked about this topic, and we've even tested waters a bit by going on vacations and sleeping in the same bed (mind you, that is actually SLEEPING, not "sleeping together") We feel as if we have done it enough times now with neither of us feeling any temptations, so we have decided that when the time comes, we would like to live together before we say our vows. We both have come from extreme toxic relationships and we feel it would be healthy for our peace of minds to know how each other lives day to day rather than having to guess until we tie the knot. I understand some may not agree with our plan, but we trust in each other and trust in the Lord strongly enough to where we have faith that we can succeed in this plan.

me and my bf also live together but not really by choice. he had to move in with me and my grandmother because he had to leave an abusive household and had nowhere to go. we too keep boundaries and know our temptations. i often feel like people judge me because of this and because i am a christian, but financially he has no where to go! do you think it is a sin in itself to just live together? not doing anything but just living together with another family member. i havent found it anywhere in the bible, however i do know that it just warns of the temptations.

But there is no real “ success” whenever you are allowing yourselves & each other to “ test” boundaries line w-out actually CROSSING the lines you dare to test. Proverbs teaches us that “ a man who holds a fire to his chest WILL become burned” = there are ways to Warm from the same fire without RISKING harm from same fire bc of accidental or intentional mishandling resulting in unforeseen harm. Why RISk the potential unforeseen harm that proverbs offers (??)

I've seen in my society that most of the living in relations don't exist longer. It's so fragile. We can't do anything without any commitment. And marriage gives you a responsibility to maintain your conjugal life. God Knows the best so we should listen to God's will. And my conscience also don't accept to live with a partner before marriage. Excellent explanation from you

I agree with your video! Shacking up means both people don’t have any real “skin” in the game! In reality, it’s too easy to walk out on the other person when things get too routine, or when there is some other kind of difficulty. It’s “easy come, easy go!” Lasting love is: waiting for sex until marriage by promising on the day of the wedding ceremony before God and others, to “love, honor, and cherish, in good times and in bad, ‘til death parts us!”

My Dad and stepmom lived together 5 years before they got married. They remained married for 18 years before she passed away due to cancer. I have three sets of aunts and uncles that lived together before marriage. The longest of those marriages is over 40 years. The other marriages 25 years and lastly over 20 years. All still married. I lived together with my husband for 5 years and have been married now 2 years. My son was born when I was 18 his father and I were never married. His father converted when my son was 14 and then petitioned the court to establish paternity and visitation. All he received was visitation. I retained full custody because of the length of time it took for his father to petition the court. My son saw his paternal side of the family before this. Although my son’s father up to the point of the petition refused to see my son. My son’s father married and was raising three kids that were not his own before his conversion. My son got married last year. My son’s father refused to attend because my son and daughter in law lived together before marriage. The marriage was secular by the choice of those getting married. I did allow my son to attend church with his father, but ultimately I left the choice in my son’s hands. My son’s stepmom was not at my son’s high school or college graduation. My son’s paternal grandmother sat by my husband and myself. My son has known my husband most of his life. Although my husband and I did not get together until my son was a senior in high school. My Dad was always the father figure. My Dad passed a couple of years ago. My son was really upset my Dad wasn’t going to be there. I tried reasoning with my son’s father. Technically, my son is the only child either one of us will ever have. My son’s father wouldn’t budge from his position. My husband doesn’t have any kids and my son’s father in law were there for my son.

They have really helped me when it comes to accepting the person I need to become when following Christ. Could you please consider making a video regarding the consumption of alcohol and how the Bible and God views these things. In my situation I had a different story. I was not able to move with my family, so I am living with my boyfriend of 3 years in the guest room of his family’s house (emphasis on separate rooms). There was nowhere else for me to go, and his family willingly opened their home to me. Honestly, I don’t care what other people think about my relationship, whether or not it “appears we are sinning,” because it’s no one else’s business. I know what’s true, and so does God.

You say you don't care what people think and if it appears you are sinning, effectively quoting the Bible. So you're saying you don't care about the scripture and what God ordains. Because that bit isn't about you caring what people think, but about you being an example in how you present yourself. Do not get me wrong. I understand that you are in a rough situation with no other options. I'm simply referring to your final position, which is a personal one and not a biblical one. Which is somewhat a contradiction to your clarification that you are in separate rooms from your boyfriend. I'm simply analyzing your words, and what they read.

From the choice of Bible quotes this is mainly Paul's perspective, as opposed to a general Christian perspective. Paul himself was celibate and he saw this as the best way. Marriage was only his second preferred option for those who could not control their urges. I wonder if this man is the best advisor in these matters. What about the Christian ideal of having lots of children? Paul was not concerned with that very much given that he expected the world to end in his lifetime or the next generation.

Side note: While your friends/family may have good intentions, shaming anyone about anything isn’t right biblically. This is a delicate subject between you, your fiancé and God. Take it Him ❤️

I have a friend who has been living with a man ( not married ) for over 20 years and they have 3 children together. My friend has recently become a Christian and has been baptized upon her confession of faith in the Lord Jesus and His finished work upon the cross. This is a very difficult situation for her, and she is troubled now that her conscience has been made alive unto God. The man she is living with is not a believer and apposes what she now now believes. What do you think she should do?.
@AmyJaneRD
@AmyJaneRD 4 жыл бұрын
First, congrats on your friend's new faith in Jesus! While this calls for celebration, her situation sounds complex and I feel for her. I can assume she is contemplating the decisions ahead of her (Do I move out? Do I marry him? What is best for the kids?). As you mentioned, living together outside the union of marriage isn't ideal and has complications. Additionally, the Bible points to the union of marriage between two believers and discourages union with a non-believer. That being said, God will meet her right where she is at. Though she is in a tricky situation, He cares far more about her new found faith. As she is deciding what her next steps are, remind her that she is loved and forgiven. Praying for guidance will be her biggest asset in decision making. I do not have children so I can't say exactly what I might do in this situation. However, I would encourage her to take bold action against anything that is a hindrance to her faith. Matthew 22:36-38 reads, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment."

@sharicebryant8149

Debbie Aldred that’s true but leaving a marriage is much harder and very expensive compared to leaving a relationship. When two ppl truly love each other AND have made GOD the foundation of their union, they will always choose each other when it comes to those rough patches. Your daughter needs to also keep in mind that many of the divorces nowadays happen due to infidelity, abuse, marrying for the wrong reasons and simply not having been prepared during the single season(desperate for a companion rather than working on oneself so you’re ready for your mate). Hope this helps.

Hi Debbie and thanks for sharing. I think the key to recognizing the value of living separate while dating is understanding of sacred covenant and deep meaning of marriage. It sounds like her divorced has left her with a damaged view of marriage. This might be a good place to start. I recommend the book "The Meaning of Marriage" by Timothy Keller.

Hello! You are right, some Christians think the situation you described above is okay and some believe it isn't. As I always like to point out, not all Christians agree on every topic 😉The exact type of situation you mentioned isn't directly mentioned in the Bible. I personally think it can be done with caution and prayer. However, I can see the possibility of it turning to something more and therefore becoming a "risky" situation. It would be wise to pray about the other person's best interest (including housing options) as well as your own and see how God leads you.

What does the Bible says about divorce? thanks for if you will answer my questions your new viewer from Philippines.
@AmyJaneRD
@AmyJaneRD 4 жыл бұрын
Hi James and hello to the Philippines 👋🏼Great question - I will add this to my list of video topics. Until then, I will give you my brief interpretation of the scriptures on divorce. First, God says that he hates divorce in Malachi 2:16. This is because God views marriage as a sacred vow never to be broken. The bible says, "So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate" (Matthew 19:6). However, God realizes that this unity is made of 2 human sinners and therefore this will not always go as planned. It appears that there are two reasons that God may approve divorce: 1. Sexual immorality in the context of marital unfaithfulness (Matthew 5:32 & 19:9) 2. If an unbelieving spouse wants a divorce (1 Corinthians 7:15)

Good question! I think it depends on the situation and the relationship of the roommates. I think it can go perfectly fine so long as the boundaries are set and known. Of course not all people of the opposite sex are drawn to each other sexually. That said, I could see how living together could lead somewhere if the couple has blurred lines. I lived with roommates for a total of 5 years before getting married. One of those years I lived with a man and another woman (3 of us total). The rest of the years I lived with all woman. Both situations went well but I will say that if a person desires to get married one day, the window of living with roommates and bonding all guys or on the other hand all girls is special and short lived so I encourage people to take advantage of that as long as you can!

Any sort of living together with the opposite sex is cohabitation, regardless of the situation.

Isn't moving in together before marriage just another form of getting to know someone? I wouldn't call it test driving, because then anything could be construed as test driving a person. And if cohabiting is viewed as "keeping one foot out of the door", then by that logic marriage would be viewed as a "ball and chain", which isn't how we should view marriage, either.

Hi Charlie! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I see what you are saying and used to feel the same way. Now I feel that there are other ways to get to know someone well that have less risk involved than living together. What do you think? What do you feel you couldn't learn about someone before living together that was important to know before committing to marriage? You are right - Many people view marriage as a "ball and chain" sadly. On the other hand, many people do not view their marriage and commitment as a sacred vow and end in divorce. A biblical view of marriage is so beautiful! You don't view yourself as chained to someone but instead the Bible describes it has becoming one flesh. It sounds like you may have misinterpreted my meaning when I mentioned cohabiting as keeping one foot out of the door, I was saying that cohabitation before marriage and entering into that type of vulnurability before a lasting commitment is made can be like leaving one foot out of the door. Not cohabitation in general.

Hello! It sounds like you and another woman were living together and had sex but are now separated. Now you would like to rekindle your relationship with God and wonder if he will forgive you. Did I understand you correctly? If so, Jesus paid the price for our sin! God is a merciful God and will forgive us our sins if we turn to him, repent, and ask forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (NIV: 1 John 1:9) As for the last part of your message, were you asking if God would accept you marrying another woman that is not the woman you have slept with?

You can live together without javing sex for crying out loud these are different times. Had an ex who is a pastor. He made me live under his roof. He has a crazy and obsessive mom. He is full of pride. Good thing I lived under his roof. All I had for the past few months were nothing but mental issues worsened by him and his mom.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You mentioned that "these are different times" but I do want to mention that the Bible's guidance doesn't change over time. Culture may change, but the Bible and its wisdom do not. I do believe it is certainly possible to live together and not have sex. That said, I do not think it is the wisest choice to make. As I mentioned in my video, the Bible does not touch specifically on the topic of living together before marriage. That said, it gives us wisdom that we can apply to this topic. Even if a couple isn't sleeping together while living together, there may be other factors to consider if the goal is to honor God and the relationship best.

Sleep in different beds...problem solved. Living doesnt appear like you are having sex...its the sleeping part...sleeping with a lover..sleeping. Not living but sleeping. Living/cohabitation is different and this is very conflated. This whole "why buy the cow when you can get the milk" metaphor talks about sex...or the appearance of sex. If you dont sleep in the same bed or go as far as to address that then you dont appear to be doing anything sinful. If they sleep in different beds and you now still think that what you see is an appearance of evil then that is called bearing false witness...true you cannot be sinful for what you see but you definitely can for what you think. These so called "temptations" are just extreme and we could be more strict and take it a step further by going and doing what other religions do which is limit the time a couple can see eachother or not let them see eachother at all and have parents decide and then marry.

am i missing something or is god prejudiced against unmarried people? seems unfair since not everyone can be or wants to be married. since the behavior is the same, why is it ok for married and not for unmarried? sins cause harm and there is no harm in living together if not married. murder is wrong for everyone regardless of marital status, so why is sex, living together, etc... different?

Ofc it is but you’re sharing a life together “two becoming one” outside of the covenant of marriage. Living “as if” you’re married without actually being married, as god designed for us. I’ve finally been delivered from the idea that cohabitation is ok even without sex but now the difficult part is convincing my ‘not fully saved but has some faith’ bf of 6 yrs that we need to move apart

It is NOT holiness regardless you situation. We do this, and we do that, so it's ok. NOPE!!! FLEE from sexual immorality. Living with them is not fleeing from but running to sexual immorality. The catholic church began conducting marriages in the 1600s. It was a family matter before that, agreement between 2 families. No signing, maybe a party although some bible verses dont include a party. Read leviticus 18 for sexually immoral acts and and Deut 28-29 for laws regarding betrothed and unbetrothed women. Find in Genesis what the union of man and woman was meant to be (companionship). Is the bible the word of God or not? Or is it church tradition which changes and shifts over time

I always point this out as well even biblically the area for marriage was abandoning your father and mother (a symbol of full commitment to your spouse) and joining to be one flesh as the family’s approved of the Union. Marriage and covenant relationships are key so if you make your commitment and covenant with your significant other to the LORD and publicly to the family I think that will suffice for those who don’t want to go do the current way of pursuing a marriage because at the end of the day it’s the establishment of a long term relationship making the commitment to God, to your spouse, and to that family. 1. To God that you will be a good steward of his daughter/son 2. To your spouse that you will serve faithfully to your duties of husbandry or being a wife 3. To the family that you will be what their daughter/son needs and will follow Gods leading to pursue that healthy relationship

I plan to never marry so if I live with a guy he should be related to me or I should be renting at his place. Marriage on earth seems so sad and pathetic to me, but it's still a Godly institution and should be respected. I think if it's a Christian marriage then Jesus Christ should be the head of that union and certain lines should not be crossed before marriage.

Ok so pretty much this made me really sad because I didnt even know that it was a sin. I moved in with my girlfriend to another state but we dont live alone we live with her mother. We never had sex and we dont plan to. And we plan to get married because our connection I much different from others and we feel as god has brought us to each other because of the circumstances on which we met. Now me and her started a youtube channel last year and we are monetized and we are trying to make that a career. It's been bumpy road but so far we are still growing on youtube and we are helping her mom pay the Bill's because she is struggling. We plan to get married and move out once we are financially set. It is today that I first hear about couples living toghether before marriage as being a sin. Now I'm panicking as it if I am sinning or because I really felt like god has sent us toghether to pursue our career but now they are saying that but I never heard about that before. We dont feel tempted to have sex and are mainly focused on pursuing our career. I dont know what to think.

I've been struggling with a lot of sin and I just recently gave my life to the lord. And dont get me wrong I will give up on youtube and move out if the lord does not want me to continue. However I feel like the lord sent me here for a reason. But now a lot of Christian's have me second guessing because they say something is a sin but however it is not stated in the bible. Its very confusing.

In your intro, you said these are your thoughts, opinions and "interpretations,"! You also claim that God "shared" these things with you. I don't see how that claim can be true, because Proverbs 3:5-6 says "lean not unto thine own understanding," ..and 2 Peter 1:20 says NO prophecy of the scripture is of ANY private INTERPRETATION. These verses are a very clear warning from God, NOT to give our own private interpretations. Concerning marriage, Adam and Eve did not have a formal wedding service, to become a married couple, but simply proclaimed their love before God, receiving His blessing on their union, and were joined "as one flesh" (the consummation). The verse 1Thessalonians 1:22 is not given as a tool especially to degrade and demoralize the act of sexual intimacy, as you're using it, but rather as a general indicator of more subtle sins that push the boundaries, for example, tattoos, cross-dressing, tight or low cut clothing, wearing make up or jewellery, drinking alcohol, lying, and of course immoral behaviour of any kind. This is marriage in God's eyes --> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hKiVpqiJqt2rXaM.html

Sex before marriage means she’s a virgin (Deuteronomy 22:13-29) if you lost your virginity and had other sexual partners before you got married you would be a concubine in Jesus and Pauls day. They had live in girlfriends back then called concubines that God sanctioned. The man would have a contract that gives him complete control over the woman (though her status was beneath a wife) and could release her whenever or ever HE desired, NOT HER. Modern Christian women try and leverage sex and marriage when their not virgins notice the Bible says “if a woman is a virgin” men don’t have to be virgins on our wedding night because sex isn’t going to affect our duty to family like it does women. They divorce because they want a new boyfriend, no Christian man is going to divorce his christian live-in girlfriend that they go to church on Sunday, do small groups, etc because “hes bored” men are stable wether their Christian or not.
