As an American on a work trip in Italy, I had to rent a car and was warned by the agent: “It is an extremely big car!” He looked at us with fear. He showed us the car, my coworker and I laughed hysterically. It was essentially a small station wagon or “estate car” We were like, “we’ll be fine!”

As opposed to “petrol” which is short for petroleum which is what petrol is made from. But it’s so what diesel, kerosene, baby bottles, Frisbees, and milk jugs are made from, yet none of these items are called “petrol”. Which is why calling one product the parent material doesn’t make sense. We don’t do this with other things. We have leather shoes, not cow shoes. Because leather is only one of many items to come from the cow.

@@Riptionator I think it's less about mangling, which is a subjective judgement, and more about willful ignorance over word origins. Every Brit who's ever ranted about how dumb Americans are for calling a certain sport "Soccer" for example, should explore the full history of "Association Football", for example. Or if they laugh at "aluminum" instead of "aluminium" should actually look up what THEY originally used. This is true for a great number of terms, spellings and pronunciations.

@@lazyblazer You don't figure in a positive displacement blower's rating in engine displacement. All it means it the blower moves 2.65 liters of air with every full rotation. If you wanted to calculate effective displacement you multiply engine displacement by intake manifold pressure in bar+1 (1 bar = 14.7psi, nominally). So 14.7psi manifold pressure, 1 bar, multiples the effective displacement by 2.... at that moment, a 2 liter engine with 1 bar of boost is effectively a 4 liter engine. You can figure what you'd have in boost with a PD blower given the RPM you want it at, but it's a tremendous piece of calculus to do so needing to match the volumetric efficiency chart with the blower's efficiency curve and a whole host of other variables like adiabatic heating and intake path heat rejection.

All it takes is to learn your vehicle’s dimensions, set up the driver’s seat correctly to where you can see the front of the hood and not be scared when you’re getting close to other vehicles or objects. Also, in drive throughs, I pull up right next to the windows so there’s just 1 foot at the most in distance and it’s easier to make the transactions.

To be honest, a real American (or someone that just spent some time driving this) that has experience driving a large truck would cope much easier on British roads with a vehicle like this. Not saying it wouldn't be difficult, but when you drive a large vehicle on a regular basis you prejudge a lot of situations, know your limitations, and don't put yourself in spots that are too tight like small drive throughs. As far as his issues with being uncomfortable with the dimensions of the vehicle, around narrow confinements and other vehicles (where he obviously had plenty of room), if you know your truck, you are subconsciously aware of how wide it is, what your clearance is, you instinctively know lane widths by reference points you subconsciously note on your hood, etc. Danger comes from unseen low, out-of-view objects like short bollards in parking lots or at gas stations that you can end up too close to and scrape up against if you turn as you are leaving and the back of the truck swings outward an inch or two making contact.

I guess this is his first time driving an oversized pickup.. it becomes routine, it’s not such a delicate process as he’s making it out to be imho.

Well, the Hellcat engine is 6.2 liters unless they fitted it with the Hellephant... The Hellephant is a 7.0 liter V-8... Physically, the pickup is roughly the same size as those Sprinter delivery vans... For me, it's a bit all, as I prefer my pickups to be fitted with the 8 foot long bed.... The clip is a bit silly, and exaggerated... British main roads are designed to fit articulating lorties, like semi trucks... While the UKorry may be shorter, it's still about the same width and hight as the American counterparts... That Ram is narrower than the large trucks...

I believe that the first problem is that the steering wheel is on the wrong side for the U.K.. Good thing he's not driving a Haul truck.

This is a kind of normal car in america. There are some that are like you have to climb like a full ladder to get into. Like a toned down mad max car. As an American there are tons of old cars that people restore and also massive trucks around the most it gets is like a oh that’s cool and you point at it for a second.

Most of the gaps he was complaining about seem like TONS of room to me. In the city I live in, cars of all sizes (even delivery trucks) speed in a 25mph zone up to 50mph with parked cars lining both sides of the road with mere inches between them and the cars parked along their side while squeezing past oncoming traffic going the same speeds and with maybe a max of 2ft of wiggle room (about 2/3 of a meter) for wiggle room. I find this really interesting but I wonder what someone who is both used to large Murican' vehicles AND the British roadways could do. I think they would be able to navigate all of that much easier than he did. It's always a matter of what you're used to I think. 😄

When I worked for a Government City Agency we had to drive Combo-Units around 40'-50' in length and with extensions that reached up to 50'+ high. We often had to have spotters guide us down city streets and alleys @ 3mph. I never completely taken out a utility line but I did 'trim' quit a few trees. Exemption has it's privileges. :)

That guy would have crapped his pants driving my RAM 2500 quad cab long bed, 6"lift, and 37" tires. It would have taken up a lane and a half of those roads.

BP and their weird green gas pumps that have ruined a lot of diesel engines here in the states. Anyways as a kid when we lived in Germany my dad had a 94 long bed extended cab f150 and our English mastiff loved to go for rides and lean over and bark at people through their sunroofs.

Trucks like that are great for hauling heavy loads & towing trailers but they suck for commuting. 11 mpg & impossible to park at some places. These are everywhere here in Texas but probably a lot of what sells them is girls love them. Monster trucks & muscle cars. If you're getting 30+ mpg in Texas you're either married or a 40 year old virgin.

I bet if his steering wheel had been on the right side of the truck instead of on the left side of the truck,he would have eventually got use to the size of the vehicle.
