I spend some serious time in my favorite car of all time. The Porsche 911 997.2 GT3 is as raw as they come (okay fine I haven't driven an RS). The sound of this modified exhaust in the tunnels, paired with the high revving nature of the 3.8l flat six engine never gets old.

I’m on my fiancé’s KZfaq but we’re buying a 997S and fitting it with the suspension and aero. If the motor were to go a GT 3.6, 3.8, or a 4.0 hopefully. The Big But about it is if we just buy a GT3 instead! I knew as soon as I knew Chris Harris, another one of my favorite journalists/awesome car guys I truly listen to that the 4.0 would be outrageous in value and greatness. So what my conclusion is honey we should just buy a 997 GT3. Thank you for the awesome video and review, my first time watching! Thank you for the spot to ramble, also living in our area we can drive to the beach for a day or be in the mountains on the Dragon’s Tail U.S. 129 in a few months! And sorry for the rambling! LOL Great Video still, got me going on about Porsche’s

I agree and I've put a lot of thought into it. Why would I want a Lambo or Ferrari so low you can't take it anywhere and the engine service is so often and cumbersome just wasting money for a status symbol. Porsches are generally reliable. You'll get some looks but it's not as flashy as a super exotic car. Plus I would be too afraid to drive anything exotic with fears that someone would hit me or I'd curb the front end just seems stressful

My friend bought a 997.2 GT3. After we (barely) got it to a highway (god damn it's low, and screw MA roads), the car is completely mental! Just hearing that noise again....omg

Porsche makes great cars I’m getting a gt3 after I pay off my c7 but my friend has a gt3 and my c7 is faster in a straight line at the track and just as fast or faster in cornering speed at summit point track.

@@TedwardDrives I had a 2019 C7 GS...now own a Cayman 987.2 and there's no comparison. Better build quality, corners like a slot car and I can tell what the front wheels are doing.

Those seats (aka GT2 buckets) were available during the 997.2 production run. On 997.2 GT3 they were an option, and in the RS they were fitted standard. Fixed back seats (aka Carrera GT seats) were only available in Europe for the 997.2 GT3 with their clubsport package which also included the cage, and fire extinguisher. Only until the next gen did we see fixed back bucket seats over in the US on a GT3. One possible way to tell if the a 997.2 GT3 was originally ordered with bucket is the inserts, on the pair like you have they are leather, generally indicating they were aftermarket installed as on most US cars equipped stock came with the alcantara inserts in my experience.

The best GT3! The last one with the Mezger powerplant. Not to mention the 997 is just the right size. The 991 and now 992 are huge. Love this video! I've watched it at least 10 times.

I feel like the e9x M3 and a 997 GT3 would be a pretty incredible 'do it all' stable. I've been musing swapping for an M2C but doesn't feel like enough of a step up, and ultimately I really want the Pcar so better off waiting a few years then going straight to that. I'm in NY so if your mate ever needs another driving opinion let me know :D

Worked at a couple Porsche shops and drove every gen GT3 Mezger or Not they are all amazing sports cars. The 991.1 or 991.2 are absolute monsters. My dream GT3 is a 997.2 GT3RS 4.0

I did those tunnels in my 997.2 Gts 6spd with sharkwerks bypass as a new yorker, i'm jealous of the tunnels Boston has coming into town. Not jealous however of their potholes

Beck in the early 2000s, the 996 GT3 was my favorite (realistic) Porsche to drive. The n.a. motor and no assist was great. I loved it!

Is this the tunnel from mainland to BOS airport? The one where there is only one exit to the airport and backs up because people rush to get to the exit then slow down rapidly (either bc of navigational uncertainty or infrastructural reasons) instantly causing a backup?

My heart broke a little when you said you didn’t like “pops”.... to me, sound (particularly on a road car) is a huge part of the equation, and pops & bangs on the over run....well it’s just sublime❤️... because race car of course😂. Race car = cool 100% of the time. And the GT3RS does race car oh so beautifully😍😍

Pops are great if they are real. Burble tunes to force the car to dump extra fuel just to make those bangs is a different story. I drove a 1969 Dino 246 GT recently that made some pops off throttle..It was wonderful! But if my M3 just popped and banged its way down to a stop I'd feel silly

Any issues with the LWFW? I understand that they were allegedly causing issues with harmonic vibration that damaged the engine. I also understand that an aftermarket dampener was developed to combat this. Any clue as to whether such a part was installed on this car?

@@brianhimmelman420 I believe the 3.6 is a non issue. Only the 3.8/4.0 have the harmonic isse. You should be fine without it.

I would also choose the 997gt3. I do own one and am biased, however i also have a 997tt and a 993 and now looking to add a 996gt3. But sometime in the future, i will swap my 997tt for a 991tt. I love the 997/996 chassis for its rawness/driving dynamics and love the 991 chassis for its performance stats and improved dailyability

I want the 997.2 RS someday. Sometimes I wonder if I should have sold the the GT3, not bought my M, and gotten an RS instead. I see them for sale in Panamera magazine. Even the priciest ones would have been cheaper than having the GT3 and the cs. But....does it make sense to have an RS if you aren't going to track it? I also like having an option now, MT or DCT, naturally aspirated, or turbo.

@@Krnnerdboy I went from a 991.1TT to the 7.2GT3 and never looked back. The TT is obviously very fast and much more refined, but I'll never get over the sound of my GT3 and of course, manual! Now the only question is, 991.2 GT3 RS...
