Thank you for sharing your story, Sarah. This really helped give me an insight of a person's life with diabetes. For a homework assignment, we had to talk to and write about a person living day to day with diabetes and I'm glad your videos were available because they really helped. ❤️

Sarah I have been feeling extremely thirsty and going to the bathroom a lot. Also I've been extremely tired. I don't check my weight but someone from my church thought I was on a diet and I got offended because I am naturally skinny and some people accused me of being anorexic.

I have T2.. I freaked out just like you did, crying and cursing myself for being fat (you're not fat BTW lol) I just admire how light - hearted you are, and able to kind of laugh at things now. Sometimes, you just have to have a sense of humor to deal with things.

I was diagnosed in August of 2012 & I had lost 20lbs in a month and been constantly drinking and peeing & one night I was hit in the head and had to go to the emergency room for a concussion.. they checked my blood sugar & it's was 583. I now have the minimed pump and dexcom.

I was diagnosed 1/18/1985. Similar story as yours. Lost about 60-lbs the last 2 weeks before I went into the hospital. I'm 6'4" (so losing 60-lbs did make me skeletal), just after my 17th birthday. Blood sugar was over 2,000 because it pegged the hospital's blood sugar measuring equipment (2,000 is about 111 in non-USA systems - way high).Tore the hell out of an orange before giving myself a shot. No such thing as 32 gauge needles that are 6mm length. They were all 12mm and 26 gauge I think. Nasty stuff. Now 39 years later, still here. Some days hate it. No days love it. I was diagnosed long before the concept of CGMs and also before pumps were commercially available. There was no rapid onset insulin. In fact I kept the first vials of insulin I ever used (R and N pork insulin). You mixed them in a syringe in whatever dose the doctor told you. Later on you learned to adjust based on your current glucose reading and what you planned on eating. You had to inject about an hour before eating because it took so long for the R insulin to start working. I can only imagine what things will be like in another nearly 40 years for us T1. Hope 8 years later after making this video that you are happy and healthy!

Just wondering, whenever I wake up in the morning I feel really thirsty and I drink about 2 or 3 large glasses of water. At night I always feel thirsty before bed. During the day, I may drink a lot of water at one time and still feel thirsty. However, I have not experienced any unusual weight loss. How was your thirst before you were diagnosed with diabetes?

Did you get any acidic breathing in the days leading up to your diagnosis? That alongside extreme thirst, increased urination and ultimately vomit was the most notable symptom for me. It was the point where I felt something was coming, even got the famous last words in the day before diagnosis; "the best thing you can wish for in life is good health... seriously." I think subconsciously I knew it wasn't any ordinary sickness. Probably got it from all the infections I used to get as a wee lad.

I had all these symptoms before I was diagnosed, but I also could not breath, at the end, I was already 30 pounds underweight and I lost 20 more, I was 12 and 60 pounds, I was 4,9. I was rushed in ambulance, I was in DKA, and was going into a comma, my mom was with me and my veins had collapsed and I was in the 600s, I went to AI DuPont, my parent injected me for the first 2 months, I stayed in the hospital for 8 1/2 days

I don't know if this is a problem worth going to the doctor about but I've been having the same symptoms as you mentioned. Sometimes I would have moments where if I don't eat enough, my vision will blur and I will suddenly get extremely tired. My body is also very fatigued and my muscles will cramp up a lot. Can anyone help me? Also I really enjoyed this, it really helps.

I got type one diabetes on August 14 which was my first day of school. I could barely walk without being in a lot of pain, my mouth was so dry that I gagged when I opened my mouth, swallowed, or tried to talk. I was drinking a lot of water too. I got called up to the guidance counselor in 3rd period to get a schedule change and she took me to the clinic because I didn't look good, my mom and dad didn't believe me and sent me back to class then in 5th period the guidance counselor called me again and the police officer that works at the school thought I was on drugs because of how bad it was and had to keep asking my dad to come get me or I was going to have to ride in an ambulance. My dad came and got me, took me to the hospital and my blood sugar was 575 (I think) when my mom got there and I spent about 3 days in the ICU and 2 days in a normal room.

Hi Sarah,im an Industrial Designer studying in Denmark Aalborg, My group is conducting a project on Diabetes type one and we would like to discover any pains/problems in relation to the products the industry offers for type 1 diabetes . So far we know that there are 2 different treatments in order to regulate your daily insuline, A) is the traditional pen(to much waste disposal due to blades disposal, also many things to carry arround) ,and B)is the insuline pump(expensive, might drop off, cant be used while engaging sports activities or sleep in some cases). We would like to find possible concept solutions but its hard to find out many user insights since denmark is such a small country and also the healthcare system here is more approachable in comparison to the states providing any of these solutions. Anything that you feel like commenting on would be of great help. For example, which method do you use and why? Have you ever had a crazy idea of how these products could be improved?Do you use any smart apps to record your daily carb consumsion?I know i might be asking too much, but for us this is an opportunity to explore a problem for a human perspective and not the industries traditional engineering perspective. Anything that comes in mind on how your daily activities can be empored or be more intuitive in order to live with diabetes and the products that exist there will help this project to grow stronger! Thanks in advance, stay strong and god bless!

I have had type 1 diabetes for about 13 years, I have always injected my insulin(vial and syringe) the pump always creeped me out. I would like a way to have my insulin, syringes, meter and lancet in one small portable bag that looks good. Also if it would even be possible here in the states (don't know about anywhere else) supplies are expensive, maybe we can create a way to reuse test strips. also one more thing is all the waste, there is so much plastic wasted. I feel terrible creating so much garbage.

My diagnosis story is scary actually. I actually ended up in DKA for over 5 years. I didn't get diagnosed with T1D until I was 25 years old. Jehovah's Witnesses ruined my life because I am mixed with black and white. Bed wetting and being thirsty all the time are symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes............. but doctors wouldn't diagnose it. 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 My step brother Jacob when he was 5 years old he went around to every business and this is what he said, you should be apart of the Holocaust. 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 As he was doing this he said you should also say I do not believe in T1D. So I was born on July 27 1994 and I was supposed to be born on November 13. The doctors thought I had a seizure but it was really a coma. When I was two years old I went through a stroke. When I was old enough to understand what was going on I asked the doctor about T1D and I asked about T1D over five times. We had no idea my step brother paid the doctor to say " I don't believe in T1D." So I asked about T1D because I was always thirsty and hungry all the time....... I remember when I was 7 years old the doctor said theere magic cure as he handed multiple cans of pediasure to my mom. 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 I thought to myself what an idiot as I continued vomiting for years. My step brother Jacob was in one of the doctors appointments with me he said she isn't the T1D I am. Mom corrected him and said the doctor said your insulin levels are fine. 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 I still wet the bed and still have symptoms of excessive hunger and excessive thirst. I could eat the whole refridgerator. Someone I didn't even know said things like I will cause scoliosis in your spine and he said T1D doesn't exist and I am a Jehovah's Witness now.

I’m extremely thirsty like drinking about a litre of water an hour and peeing a lot. I’ve also noticed my appetite decreasing but I still eat at meal times just because. I’ve been a bit concerned with it for a little while but I think I am going to ask my mum to get it tested in the doctors. She said I probably won’t have it because I was tested as a baby but I could still have it.
