Vietnam’s Da Nang offers an affordable cost of living, making it attractive for expats, digital nomads, and retirees. Long-term expat rentals start around $880 per month, while short-term digital nomad rentals are approximately $1,180 per month. The neighborhood of An Thuong is popular among expats, with a mix of local and international businesses. Food costs are low, with street food options starting at $1.50 per meal. Danang’s development and accessibility to beaches and mountains make it an appealing destination for those seeking an affordable lifestyle. The city has a vibrant expat community, and business opportunities have a low entry barrier. The video also highlights the cost of healthcare, transportation, and activities in Da Nang and Hoi An, Vietnam. Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is just a 45-minute drive away, offering picturesque streets, custom-tailored clothing, and a rich cultural heritage.

I left China to move to Da Nang, Chinese people told me I was moving to a poor third world country, so I was pleasantly surprised by how nice, clean and friendly Vietnam was. I'm surprised Chinese have such a negative view of Vietnam actually, I prefer living here to China.

@@HueNguyen-sh2dv hey I can recommend the hotel name "Casa Rosa Apartment Da Nang", I stayed at that hotel last year (it's more like an apartment, but has clean room service every 2 days). It costs around $25 per night, very clean and beautiful room, can walk to the beach (around 200 meters)

@@avamaria8447 mostly due to the fact that I'm not living close by anymore. I used to live in China and the flights were much shorter and cheaper. Also, I've barely traveled in the last 8 years getting ready to make a long-term move. I'm hoping to leave Canada indefinitely. However, I can't figure out a great visa situation so I may actually have to end up moving to the Philippines or somewhere else in the region. Not sure yet. Edit: I'm so happy for anyone who's been able to figure out how to make the move.

We were in Da Nang last year, but only for two days as we were exiting Vietnam. Will be going back in 2025 for a longer stay. This year we are visiting Kuching, Malacca, and Batam. This was really a pleasant video, and the gentleman in the video that was being interviewed seemed genuinely nice. Also love what his wife is doing with her restaurant. We will definitely try to make it to their restaurants the next time we come to Vietnam. 👍 Every time I am in SE Asia I feel very much at peace...absolutely love being in that part of the world.

Watching this video, I realized how stupid I was when I left the beautiful, inexpensive Vietnam to move to the USA. Currently, it cost my family of 4 (my wife, myself daughter 15 years old and son 10 years old) about $7,500 US dollars/month to live in Richmond, VA. I booked a hotel in Virgina Beach, Virginia for this July 4th holiday for two nights for $500.00/night.

Both Danang and Hoi An a wonderful places. The people are friendly and laid back. Hoi An probably has more tailor shops per capita than anywhere else in the world. They are fast, skilled and very reasonable. There is a great public market in Hoi An with an assortment of local dishes. Both places are great to walk around and safe. The beach in Danang is legendary. It was a top R and R spot during the American war and site of an old TV series called China Beach which was the name the GIs gave to the beautiful My Khe Beach.

And compared to the last time I visited there was lots of closed shops and way more touts trying to sell you stuff so the city hasnt recoved yet from covid. Dont get me wrong I really like DN, but it isnt as clean and chill as this video portrait it to be (it was filmed more or less on just two touristy streets) so visit for at least a week or two before you decide to stay long term.

I'm not sure I understand how bad the climate is, especially in the summer, and to what extent it would wear out your typical older expat or tourist. Could the subject of weather be elaborated on, and compared to other places in Southeast Asia?? Most of us, at least older more settled folks, don't relish the idea of living in a sauna and being confined to air conditioning for months on end. I wish some KZfaqrs could spend as much time on this issue as they do on talking about food!

@stevem437, Sorry for the misunderstanding. $880 is the total monthly cost for everything for someone with a long-term lease. the rent can easily be as low as $150 monthly in town. I wasn't very clear in my introduction summary.

It’s nice to visit. But to stay long term, I got bored. Not much to do after a while. So far, it’s the Philippine islands that’s exciting. Don’t get me wrong, Vietnam is beautiful, people are nice, it’s just that I’m an island kind of guy.

Trust me that's not high if you live in the USA and in California. We pay $130.00 monthly just for cell phone services, sure it's 4 lines but still it's a lot. I wouldn't mind paying like $5.00 or whatever it was per line. Anyhow, I guess it all depends where you're from or coming from.

Westerners sometimes leave their home countries due to high costs of living, seeking affordability and new opportunities in places like Vietnam. However, their migration often replicates familiar problems. In seeking lower costs and opportunities, they can unintentionally drive up local prices, contributing to gentrification and making it harder for local residents to afford housing. This influx can also disrupt local economies and cultures, as preferences and demands shift to cater to new arrivals rather than preserving existing community dynamics. Thus, while seeking a better life abroad, Westerners inadvertently replicate the issues they left behind, challenging the delicate balance of affordability and community in their new host countries like Vietnam. Toxic, Toxic, Toxic.
