In this video we explore Melbourne CBD, Southbank, Carlton, South Yarra, and St Kilda. We'll find out why these suburbs are so popular, and whether they are worth the price considering there are cheaper alternatives. Our first stop, Melbourne CBD is the heart of the city, where you can find everything you need within walking distance. It's also well-connected by public transport, and has a vibrant nightlife and cultural scene. However, it can also be noisy, crowded, and expensive. Southbank our next suburb, is just across the river from the CBD, and offers a more relaxed and scenic atmosphere. It's home to many attractions, such as the Crown Casino, the Arts Centre, and the Eureka Tower. It's also close to the Royal Botanic Gardens and some famous markets. Carlton is a charming and historic suburb, known for its Italian heritage and cuisine. It's also close to the University of Melbourne, the Melbourne Museum, and the Carlton Gardens. It's a great place for students and young professionals who want a lively and diverse neighbourhood. South Yarra is one of the most fashionable and affluent suburbs in Melbourne, where you can find upscale shops, cafes, and restaurants. It's also close to the Yarra River, the Royal Botanic Gardens, and the Chapel Street precinct. It's a great place for those who want a stylish and sophisticated lifestyle. St Kilda is a seaside suburb with a bohemian and artistic vibe. It's famous for its beach, pier, Luna Park, and Acland Street. It's also home to many festivals, events, and live music venues. It's a great place for those who want a fun and relaxed lifestyle. For more watch the video, and let me know in the comments which suburb you like best!

If I could I'd move to Europe in a blink. There is no culture of note in Australia. There is no cuisine of note in Australia. The people are for the most part unsophisticated, uncivilised and many are extremely rough around the edges. There is increasing levels of crime everywhere and none of the main cities are safe after dark. The summer heat in many parts is absolutely brutal. In the southern states, swimming in the beaches means you are shark bait. Do yourself a huge favour and abandon any thought of moving to Australia. There are so many incredible and infinitely better European locations for you to consider, especially on the Mediterranean.

@@Fellowtraveller2 hi….my island is not too bad if I am honest, we do have unemployment, cost of living is very high, we have over 200,000 cars on the 9 by 5 mile island, so it’s busy….houses are utterly silly prices, £900,000 for a three bedroom semi….you have to qualify to buy here, used to be 25 years…now it’s 10 years residence in rental, also expensive…wish my island was less UK looking and more France looking, being so close to our Gallic friends….plus sides…great surf, great summer weather, great beaches, great walks…..worst thing, very personal, bloody horrible long cold stormy wet winters…..hence my yearning to spend time in Melbourne…..nowhere is perfect for sure….we are to be honest all lucky we do live without fear…..anyway, that’s my answer….nice place……but…….

A well presented video of my home city. Just a few comments especially to respond to those already posted. Melbourne is not always grey, in fact this video was posted on a clear blue winters day it seems. Melbourne does have challenging weather, but it's mild with the exception of the occasional heat wave. No climate is perfect, in fact I live mostly in the Asian tropics and the 4 month long wet season is hideous with its off the scale humidity. Fact : Melbourne has much less annual rainfall than Sydney. This video was deliberately focused on the livability of CBD and inner suburbs (although sadly the west was committed) I used to live in Albert Park for 20+ years, so St Kilda was my playground. Currently I live in Fitzroy (on the Carlton border) and wouldn't live anywhere else. South Yarra has never been a favourite, I personally find it bland and homogenised (Richmond is much more interesting) All these places are blessed with huge parks and public spaces, well served by different modes of public transport. And yes it is expensive, the price you pay for all these conveniences. In summary, we all have different preferences and needs. As a retiree of 70, I would move back to Melbourne in a heartbeat.

I would really love to see a video on other more family friendly suburbs to consider, still offering good coffee spots, restaurants but also kid friendly places and parks. I’ve lived in Sydney for 8 years and am now back in Europe but would like to move to Melbourne with my 5 year old 😊 but we’re on a budget of max 500$ pw. I’ve considered areas such as Brunswick or because of school choice Caulfield and surrounding suburbs. Thanks in advance! 😊

All the suburbs shown here have a large number of 1 bedroom apartments. Australians typically don’t live in 1 bedroom apartments - this is aimed at people who are passing through Melbourne for a short period of time who haven’t put down roots (once you have a partner and/or children/pets you won’t fit in a 1 bedroom apartment any more)!

$ price for renting or buying doesn’t just depends on the property size. School zones can be a major factor. Good public (government) schools can save parents tens of thousands of dollars in private school fees. A lot of $smart parents rent or buy in a particular zone for the first four years of a child’s Secondary education and save their money to put their child into a top private school for the final two years to raise their chances of achieving a place at a preferred University. It’s a strategy some are prepared to take but still depends on the student achieving a good VCE score. University places depend on availability and overseas students, especially Asian students, pay a lot of money to attend Australian universities so competition for placement in some subjects is strong. Melbourne has over 280K students attending our 8 Universities spread out over many campuses. There are over 1K suburbs so research will be important if you have higher education expectations for your children. In conjunction with our Universities we also have TAFE colleges that provide vocational training and there are trade schools. I can’t speak to housing around Collingwood because I live in the outer Eastern suburbs. Each suburb will have play grounds, sporting facilities and parks and gardens. Child care and kindergarten placements are something I can’t tell you anything about as I have been the provider of childcare in my family of my grandchildren. I hope this info helps.

Snow in metropolitan Melbourne is almost a once-in-a-lifetime freak event near sea level -- approximately never a thing. Though peaks on the city fringe (maybe 600m+ altitude) can get a light dusting a few times per winter. Australians like to complain about Melbourne winters but frankly you can get away with little more than a t-shirt a fair proportion of the time :).

Nice Video BUT never play music whilst people are talking or narrating. The music competes with the spoken word for your brains' attention and makes it harder to concentrate and comprehend what is being said. It is simply a distraction.
