Living Traditions Homestead

Living Traditions Homestead

Күн бұрын

It's been six long months of not eating fresh veggies...only canned veggies. But, now it's SPRING and the garden is BURSTING! Sarah harvests from the garden and turns it into a beautiful meal for the family. She makes Asian cabbage rolls, roasted turnips, and fresh garden salad with homemade vinaigrette.

***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

I agree, Becky. I live in a high rise. I started using an air fryer and it's awesome. I haven't tried dehydrating any food yet but it can do that. I also have a dehydrator. I get fresh foods from the store since I can't grow my own. I tried making apple cider vinegar. Though I was successful, I thought the fussing wasnt worth it in my small place. CVS has great ACV, by Gold brand. A bread machine also can make jelly and do other things. I got mine at Best Buy. They have great daily deals. They have a Twitter account just for daily deals too. Making cheese is interesting. If I use 2% milk, I throw out the whey. It doesn't have a good taste. I have yet to be good at mozarella. Farmer's cheese is my thing. Just put the milk in, mix 1tsp citric acid per gallon of milk by adding it to 1/3 c water first, stir well, then stir in milk. This recipe requires patient stirring, on low heat till it reaches 195° which is just before boiling. Take it off the burner, put on a cool surface.Let set 15 minutes, then strain and season. I even add chopped onions and peppers, to make a cheesey omelet for breakfast. It's good to use a cheesecloth to help the cheese come together and squeeze out whey. But that's up to you. This cheese could be used for cream cheese. You could emulsify it using a hand blender for a more whipped texture. Remember friendship cajke? You save a cup to give to someone else to use as a starter and it takes a few days to grow the culture and you can give someone else your extra cup. My recipe is gone. I wonder if Glen And Friends have made this. His specialty isvold time recipes. Have a good day. ♥️🚘😊💛

The best and easiest way I have found to coat/season is to put the turnips in a big ziplock bag and add the oil and seasoning. I even put my salads in a bag and add the dressing and shake it. I have found that I can get by with a lot less dressing that way.

That's exactly what my Mom did. She only planted dill once. She let a bit go to seed and she'd have plenty of dill to use fresh for pickles, to use with baby potatoes and cream (robbing the potato plants) and for other summer dishes, and plenty to freeze for winter.
