*** About Living Traditions Homestead ***
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

That cheesecloth that came from you husband's Grandmother is a piece of family history that she entrusted to you. During the Great Depression there was just no money for new clothes. Every stitch was handed down or repurposed. At the time, flour was purchased in 50 lb bags, and women would use that to make dresses and such, and the embroidery was just to put a little bit of a decorative touch to it. When the flour companies figured that out, they started making their sacks with a print. It wasn't necessary, and there was no money in doing it, but women appreciated having a pattern on their dresses: it was helping your fellow in time of need. This was something she saved and kept as a memory of the hard times that she and her family went through. I think I would keep it with the patchwork quilt you might have as an example of folk art.

Something you probably think is strange reminded me of my grandma. At the end of the video the sunlight and shadows were playing across your face. At 12 grandma thought I was old enough to learn to be in the kitchen with her. When she taught the shadows played. Thank you for that memory. I know silly comment.

Experiment until you find what works for you...or you can simply follow the steps in this excellent Video and be content with the results.

I am an Indian! So we make this cheese at home very often! May be you are familiar with the term “Paneer”. One thing I can suggest that you wash it with cold water so that when you will squeeze it the hot whay will not burn your hand! 2nd if you feel tired and not to wash anything right then just leave all of the equipments along with cheese cloth in water with kitchen soap. Washing will be lot easier!

I used your video as a guide to make cheese. It turned out just like you said. I used a gallon of whole milk from the store. I tried some fresh and it seemed to be lacking in flavor. Maybe go for raw milk next time? It was more of a learning experience than anything else. It was a lot of fun for sure! Also for anyone about to try this, definitely use the flour sack towel and not traditional cheesecloth. The curds squeeze through quite easily. Thanks for the great videos!

The lady I bought Guernsey milk from years ago in Kansas, made cottage cheese. Everything she made was great. She taught me to make fabulous dill pickles and great apple pie, too. That Guernsey milk was so rich. Richer and yellowed than any other milk I bought, including Jersey. It had several inches of thick yellow cream on every gallon. And those cows were huge! So tall!

@@vickimoore7646 hi, you don't add sugar during the cheese making process, it's the regular cheese but you can use any bread dough (dinner rolls are the best) crumble the cheese let say 1/2 tablespoon per roll. Sara, watching you make this cheese gave me confidence to try it myself. The first time was a semi-flop. I had unknowingly used ultra pasteurized milk so it didn't make curds. So I switched gears and used it to make yogurt, which turned out just fine, even with the added vinegar. The second try was a resounding success! Of course, I made sure to use regular pasteurized organic whole milk. The only thing I would do differently is not use as much salt, but that's just personal taste. I'll be doing this again for sure! Thank you for such an understandable video!

@Bert Clayton . The cheese here is instant cheese. We in india make a lot of sweets with it and even cook gravies. Look up for palak paneer.

I started making goat cheese the same way only with lemon juice as the acid. Now i found it cheaper to use vinegar. I recently found a farmer who will sell raw milk. I love them both but never tried freezing it. So thanks for the tip. Hope everyone stays safe during covid . Happy your relatives are coming to live with you.
