Reptile parents from worst to best: 1. 🐢Turtles- The worst. They just bury their eggs and leave without a care. 2. 🦎🐍Lizards and snakes- Both are tied in the middle. It actually depends, some are as irresponsible as turtles, but many lizards and snakes at least bother guarding the eggs. They don't tend to care for the hatchlings, though. 3. 🐊Crocodilians- The best reptile parents. Not only do they fiercely guard their nest, they come running when the babies hatch, they gently take them to the water and keep on protecting them for quite some time.

Realistically. They arent bad parents when their species continues to make it even if they leave them. A sea turtle cant stay on the beach til they hatch obviously she would dehydrate and starve. Basically most reptiles dont have parent intuitive like humans

@Petri Dish Without Germs Not all, there are exception like prehensile-tailed skinks. Both parents will protect their young and they are social unlike other reptiles. I guessing it's because they only lay 1-2 live young instead of many eggs. Fun fact: Juvenile prehensile-tailed skinks eat their parent feces.

Often animals fake theyre dead cos most predators by instinct refuse to eat dead animals, cos they may have being sick, poisoned... That doesnt work with snakes when they can see your bodys heat. . So lizzard may just find out to turn upside down so snake finds it weird or hard to eat...

its a totally different colour underneath and some predators rely on movement to see. in some cases it may seem to disappear especially if underside is camouflagged.
