@@rikuparbniang9768 Truth is: being popular doesn't mean being great. LL was popular, but he wasn't on the same level with Canibus. LL had ghostwriters for Ripper Strikes Back. Everything Canibus spit in this diss turned out to be true. Even LL admitted that he got raped and molested. Transgender author Toni Newman confirmed everything Canibus said about LL's sexuality, which LL disguised with a heterosexual marriage. Canibus, in a word, was blackballed by the industry, because that's the type of pull LL had at the time. 50 Cent did the same thing to Jadakiss, because 50 knew Jadakiss was doper and 50 knew he would've got bodied. LL had an image to maintain. Canibus wasn't going to bend over and take it in the ass for fame and popularity, that's why he went at LL so hard. Now, years later, people see the real deal. Canibus won, because Canibus stayed true to the game and that's why Canibus is still the illest MC to hold a mic. Bizz said it best: "Jacker the Ripper? Imma Rip The Jacker, rape a rapper with a classic from his own master... YOU'RE DEAD!!!" RIP LL Cool J

U9B there isn’t one source of information on this. There are interviews with LL, NORE, DMX, Redman, Method Man that I’ve seen over the years that talk about this in parts but they’ve never fully disclosed the whole story. But when you piece the interviews together you get the whole story (if that makes sense). It’s alleged that Lyor via Def Jam made sure program directors from radio stations didn’t play Canibus music or promote his albums/singles. It was like a freeze out kinda thing, which is why the average person will think LL won the rap battle when in reality he didn’t. LL was still going platinum at this time and Lyor didn’t want his artist taking any L’s as it would affect Def Jam/his bottom line (the money) and LL’s reputation.

NJ That make sense. That explains Canibus' allusions of blackballing or his reference to Def Jam in poet laureate, though he never went any further than this. I can't see how it would have effected LL's career all that much, but then again he was going through his final pop with movies so it kind of adds up. I'll go dig in those interviews. Got any other leads I should follow?

the problem Canibus had is just that he got really unlucky with marketing and production at the start of his career and then he got super bitter about it because he knew he deserved a lot more than he got. Mostly I feel bad for the guy since now most of his discog is him being angry at the industry. Rightfully so, but it's not always the most fun stuff to listen to

I revisit this battle every 5-6 years and I get pissed off all over again. The industry did a number on Bis; He bodied L. This track is most likely why L still petty til this day with lines like "your career can start all over again now" & the hall of fame shout out. Not here to debate man, if you know, you know. Then again, had this situation not occurred, We would have never gotten some of our favorite projects after the fact. It's fun to imagine what would have happened if Bis just took the high road and not released 2RKO; waited the 2 months like L suggested and do the underground track to kill the noise. What would have manifested as a result? MFS were shook when Bis entered the scene man. This situation is the definition of what being blackballed is. Def Jam was just too powerful at the time. Oh well, I'm a Ripper regardless. '97 til ♾️.

Much respect to LL but Canibus murdered him on Second Round K.O. This was just overkill. LL kept throwing weak disses because he never got it right. G.O.A.T. had all those disses but 2000 B.C. was lava. Canibus killed him directly and subliminally. LL blackballed him in '98 and was in denial with the way he kept dissing. He couldn't get Second Round out of his head.

To me .. it seems like LL got demolished, and the connections and the PEOPLE and the POWER that LL has accumulated his whole career tried to help out L and kind of flush Canibus out. But we all know LL got destroyed. But everyone kind of came together to make it look like Canibus lost this battle. Just LISTEN TO THE RHYMES!!! That says it all.

(2019) and this is the first time I'm hearing this track, this shit is totally disrespectful. I felt Canibus won this battle back when 2nd round knock out came out. After hearing him and LL's phone call i'm glad bus didn't take that bait and wait 3 months with no response. being that LL had big connects in the industry, I can see him having bus black balled. this goes to the part of the conversation of why LL was asking him what label he was on.
